Dont know anything about her so have nooo idea why shes got a lump of coal on her head. More "a day in the life of Bincho tan" photos at the Good Smile Blog. Is this on anyones buy list?
Interesting. Maybe the coal symbolizes... um.. mans struggle against oppression, constantly having to evolve to combat the effects of their own tampering of the earth and the natural order of the cycle of life. That... or she needs coal for the fire?
Her name is Binchou, so we call her Binchou-tan, and she has a stick of binchoutan on her head! She keeps it because it has so many uses. Really, though, she keeps it because she's a corporate mascot who was named for that clever pun. Binchou-tan, though, is one of those rare exceptions where a show based on a corporate is actually good. Well, the anime was. The manga, while not bad, is only OK, imo. Despite my Binchou-tan love, I won't be buying this one. Too plastic looking and rather lifeless.
i remember watching one episode before, but did get to the rest of them. i would like to have this figure, i like the toy look to it, makes it cuter
I'm watching the anime right now, and I like it very much, it's just soo cute! The music is also very good, and that first episode must have been one of the best and beautiful introductions I've seen of a character. Everything is right there, it almost has a miyazaki feel to it ;p After the first episodes it follows the more kawaii chibi approach with other characters. But those first 2 episodes, man, just so beautiful. Would love to have a Binchou-tan figure, not sure about this one though ;p
Binchou tan is actually a pun of the Japanese word 備長炭(binchoutan) which means charcoal. The charcoal on her head is actually used in the cooking of rice to remove odours. It can also be used to purify water. She is the mascot character for the Alchemist (http://www.alchemist-net.co.jp/main.html) a company that makes anime styled games.
Thank you for the background!
KAWAIIIII!!! I must get it!
Heheh, happens to be one of my fave anime characters. So simplistic and mundane... Too plastic for me though. Not on my buy list.
Looks much better than my gashapon version. T_T I liked the anime... cute and slow-paced.
Ah, the ever-so-cute Binchotan... I just received mine today... Don't think that it looks plastic but rather clay... Paper clay, maybe... Perhaps that's why the series is called Nendoroid? The proportions look better than in the anime to me but the joints are quite loose... And the ends of her pink sash just won't go flat on to the surface when she's in the sitting pose... Anyone having the same problems?
old, but I've been meaning to get this nendoroid
