Hijacked from Mel and thanks to Nya Chama for mentioning it earlier on too. Firefox are trying to set a world record for the amount of downloads in a single day. I dont quite get this because Microsoft can beat this anytime by forcing updates to Windows XP no? I hate the way they force my applications to close and shut down my Windows machine just to install updates. Does Vista do that too? Anyway, if you don't know what the fuss is about regarding Firefox, do give it a whirl by downloading it. You can add a load of functionality to Firefox which enhances the browsing experience. There are also many bugs in IE6/7 which prevent the user from seeing websites as designers intended. I have disabled some of the layout features in IE because Microsoft decided to set their own standards instead of following the W3C. Another great thing about FF is that it checks your spelling when typing in a text field - my spelling is terrible so it helps *a lot*. The image in this post is a screenshot of Firefox running and you can see some of my addons in the bottom right corner which are the Alexa Toolbar which enables you to see the traffic rank of any website and thus judge roughly how popular it is. You also support dannychoo.com if you use the Alexa toolbar too (find out why). I also use Screen Grab which enables you to take screenshots of long webpages. Could not live without the Developer Toolbar which is an incredible suite of tools for web developers. And why do my Firefox extensions all work in Firefox 3? Because I use the Nightly Tester Tools which force just about any extension to work with any version of Firefox - all working perfectly for me. When I upgraded to FF3, I got the incompatibility complaint but a click on the "make all compatible" fixed everything. Original text from Mel below. As many of you may know today marks Download day for Firefox 3! Participate on this world record attempt for most software downloads in 24 hours. http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord/ Current download counter for major countries: target="_blank">http://downloadcounter.sj.mozilla.com/#q#
I just got my FF3, and I must say it looks awesome. Long live Firefox!
This morning it was at 500k downloads, now it's 1 million. USA still in the lead.
Everytime the server is down atm every 10 mins as i see, the counter goes down to ZERO, recovers to over NINE-hundred-THOUSAND up to 2.5 millions and is down again. I downloaded mine when it said 2,9 million.
I got mine this morning It's so awesome!
Just downloaded 2. And downloaded my Certificate...
OMG i totally forgot about the ff3 release...even after i have been tracking it for months now i still forgot. I cant believe my self *cries in shame*!!! I must go get this now, i have to push my otakuism aside for a moment to take care of this problem and download it..............The fire fox logo reminds me of Kylala from Inuyasha.. i hope its good I hope fire fox3 is a little lighter this time..
I download it. This browser is freaking fast compare to my other browser. (Include opera and safari)
Yea i just got back from downloading and installing it...and your right its fast as hayell. i just love it. u know, to tell you the truth i don't really who uses Internet Explorer anymore. Internet Exporere just isnt the top dog anymoe......"Im sorry Internet Explorer i have divorce you for another girl her name is Firefox! " hehe
Downloaded for my laptop, will download on my desktop later. Satisfied. ^^
The only thing i dont like about firefox 3 is the adressbar or as they call it awesome bar makes me think i have history, i dont like history, allows people to see what health care i get up to. :D
I got the certificate too ^^ Man, i fall in love with Firefox now.
FF3 looks very nice, what certificate is everyone talking about btw.
lovin the new ff3. thx for the post
I downloaded it on my Desktop, and my laptop both on vista partition and OS X Leopard partition, and also my sister's computer. The entire house is now using Firefox 3. :> btw, what certificate are you guys talking about?

Got it earlier today, pretty impressed by it i must say.
I just did lol. Thought why the hell not, seeing as loads of u have recommended it.
I've just installed it, many options and cool tools, but I tried it on DannyChoo.com and it was more slower than IE...
it think it become faster. it's good that all my add-ons and skin can work perfectly with FF3. too bad my AVG8 toolbar can't
got the Firefox 3 it works great love the new interface and its faster too
Inputing this comment using Firefox 3~ Fabulous 5 star web browser
yep, by the way the site works exelent with the new browser. exelent coding
I'm ok with FF3, dunno why there is such a big hype around it though. I heard there are download partys and stuff, germany hardly cares... well of course the EM08 is interfering. ;) I use FF since i can recall it's name being around, i did always like it... memory leaks or not. ;)
This good and useful piece of software just got a little better. :-) One feature I miss from other browsers is the ability to open plain text URLs like real hyperlinks. Yes, there are add-ons for this but it would be nice if FF could do this without installing one. Oh..and I loved how I could add search fields of any website to the browsers search engines when using Opera. All in all it's not the fastest browser I've tried but it's a whole lot faster and uses less RAM than FF2. On my computer Opera and Safari were a little faster, the difference in terms of speed hardly matters though. On the other hand these browsers don't have FF's large collection of add-ons. To be honest I've never understood all the hype about Firefox. Yeah, it's a whole lot better than IE and it has a few features IE lacks but you could say this about pretty much all modern browsers.
Thanks for sharing. I am downloading as I speak... err... typing.
I've noticed a huge difference in terms of memory usage :D It looks pretty too :P
As for the world record: It's not that hard to break it because as of yet there is none. Of course a lot of things have been downloaded a lot of times but there are quite a few formalities to take care of (to proof things etc). Otherwise your record won't be accepted and added to the Guinness Book.
nice recommendations Danny ^^ Hubs gonna try to reinstall my OS (again lol) so wish us luck ^^;
Good luck! *downloading... installing...*
Wow, I definitely noticed the speed... And my black *Aero Fox* skin still looks great, lol. ^_^
Kool i download right now
You can add +2 downloads from my side now. I can't wait to see after I use it for a while if the memory leaks are gone. I just wish I new why Firefox 3 end up having old bookmarks instead of my now lost new ones.
Yay Danny, with this, all blogs I visit have a topic on it. They probably already got the World record... it was at some billions downloads last time I checked. I also posted a heads up on my blog: http://xspblog.com/2008/06/17/firefox-3-download-day-2/ And I guess I have a very close opinnion and use the same stuff here...
I'm going to stick with Safari. I hate how Fire Fox handles History in its drop down menu. I still have Fire Fox downloaded, but my main browser will keep being Safari unless Fire Fox does something so amazing that I have to make the switch.
I downloaded this but I prefer Opera so much more. Tabbed browsing is so much better on Opera than any of the others. The addon aspect I would probably miss if I ever installed addons for Firefox when I used it many moons ago.
Firefox 3 is awesome ^^. The major problem with memory leaks is fixed and a lot of new useful features.
So Firefox 3 finally added stuff Safari already has? I done the tests for the new Firefox 3 vs Safari 3.1.1. Now Firefox 3 faster by about 100 ms, but Safari 4 beta wipes the floor with Firefox 3 by 500 ms. I'll stick to Safari 4.
results. Safari 4 DP. - 1655.40 ms (Total) http://dromaeo.com/?id=14016 Firefox 3.0 - 2105.00 ms (Total) http://dromaeo.com/?id=14017 Safari 3.1.1 - 2256.20ms (Total) http://dromaeo.com/?id=14018 OmniWeb 5.7 - 6732.80ms (Total) http://dromaeo.com/?id=14019
How does Safari fair on Acid 3?
Just jump along the bandwagon... but i miss my old theme, Noia 2.0, seems like the author did not create a compatible version for FF3 Anyone with other great theme that similar to Noia?
Just Installed it, and oh... very nice ^^ but yeah, the address bar is kinda disturbing for me ^^; wish there's a setting that can switch between the old and new style.
I never had any problems with an earlier version of Firefox. Then, a few months ago, I refreshed my harddrive and downloaded a newer version, and it's horrible. It freezes nearly everyday. What happened?
I have Firefox 3. More quickly and good memory use =)
I've downloaded FF3 and it is simply awesome.. Now it loads 3 times as fast as FF2.. One of the best place to test is MMOSite.com where it took awhile for IE to load.. ^^
vista does force restarts still. still at work. will be downlading when i get home.
hell, i hate that not-that-smart location bar
I did it and I love it u.u
I upgraded from RC1 to FF3 final and well it still is a resource hog. Though it's still better then Konqueror. I might have to move to Opera though, it does everything FF does without needed extensions.
I see my site in that screen! Thank you for visiting. Your tips are pretty useful - I was worried about what would become of all the extensions I use - thanks. You can kill auto-update by disabling 2-3 services, and there is a setting to stop forced reboots without disabling updatea... I never let MS reboot my PCs.
Yup awesome little browser ff3. I pretty much dl'ed as soong as mozilla's servers were back up. Couple of hours delay but their servers pulled through and we have ff3 :P Gotta say it does feel faster than ff2, never tried the betas of 3. Resource usage wise, it has cut back, but it still eats up quite a lot of resources.
Yea I just downloaded mine and thought it kinda sucked that many things were yet to be compatible but that nightly testers should help.
I'm already in Firefox 3.0 ^^
Wow, all of you managed to download it already? I tried downloading mine 1am in the morning today. Server lagged like hell, adn the download link took me back to Firefox 2. Think I'm gonna try again. Currently using Firefox 3 Beta 5,btw.
It seems everyone is enjoying FF3... Maybe I'll go download it too...
Hm, can't get it now, but everyone's comments is making me want it...
Installed FF3 today... not much difference since I was using beta versions already, maybe a tad faster and some minor changes that I noticed. But anyway, FF is the browser for me, tried Safari but prefer FF and wouldn't even consider IE even when using Windows (wouldn't even consider using Windows if not occasionally forced to ^^ )
Mmm... I've been waiting for this. I got it this morning as well, and I love it. Too bad the theme I used doesn't work (yet), but all the other new features were well worth the wait. FF = <3
Wow, I'm really really impressed with FF, the internet is running so much smoother and faster ... even the gif files are running smooth as hell. r.i.p IE7,
I'll wait for couple weeks before download it.
a lot of my addons don't work but this version of firefox sure is a lot faster so I'll stick with this one. I'll wait for the addon makers to catch up with 3.0
Hmmm.. Will have to do this to the laptop tonight, when I have a little time. I use SeaMonkey for the desktop, FireFox and Thunderbird on the lappy. I have never gotten the Nightly Tester Tools to work, though. I installed them, and never got it working. Which is sad. I miss some of those old styles (Black Japan was a nice look)
Yeah, Fx 3 looks great on a mac. On Windows it has ugly buttons. :/ I'm now using 8 extensions right now. 1Password (password manager), Add Bookmark Here ( Add bookmarks directly in toolbar, Firebug ( debug html, css etc ), Firegestures (mouse gestures like Opera), Menu Editor ( customize menu ), SEO for Firefox ( lookup Alexa and pagerank), Tab Mix Plus (customize tab behaviour), Web developer ( some handy html tools ) . :P
I think that Firebug is actually better than the Developer Toolbar that Danny recommends, it's a great tool! I'll check out the Firegestures, thanks for the tip! ^^
Did we make the world record on this download?
