Hijacked from Meimi who discovers this incredible ripoff Kureha. Has anybody here ended up with any fakes in their collection? What measures do you take to make sure you dont end up with one. I have heard opinions that originals are too expensive and that fakes are just fine to have. Original text from Meimi below.I was just searching ebay, for games mostly, then I got onto figures later, and was reminded of how much I want figures from the shining wind series. And I came upon this... I admit its nowhere near as bad as Sader, but its still.... so obviously fake I'm suprised they get away with it.... theres not even any white on her hair band!! Link to actual item on ebay Funny thing is, the same person sells the legitimate version aswell. Legit Kureha, for comparison to naff-Kureha
Oh man, that so bad it hurts to look at.
I agrees O_o; I rather save up my money to buy the legit versions o_o
That's terrible. And they are both listed as Dragonball Z figures!! I'm sure even if you order the "real" looking one you will get the fake. It's just a stock photo, and both descriptions are exactly the same...never once stating that it is official. The real killer is that both prices are the same and less than 1/4 the price for a real one!
Isn't that always the way... cheap-fake figures from china... mega-disappointing. Glad I've never been jipped yet.
I also love how they've tried to take pics of the obviously fake one in the same positions as the legit-looking one. They try so hard to peddle their fake crap.
This is not a case of What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get. I see eBay figure sellers from Hong Kong, China or Thailand and the first word that comes to mind is: pirate. There is no way an authentic Kureha resin kit will have a Buy-It-Now for £12.95. Pirates have no moral compunctions in passing their cheap recast garbage as the real one. The only time I will tolerate a recast is when the original resin kit is all sold out or too expensive to get. If you don't mind an imperfect copy that requires alot of work, I suggest you try http://www.e2046.com/index.php instead.
I have only ever bought 2 things from China. Ragnarok mini figs and the Grimrock Rei and Asuka set, which both seem fine and dandy. I dont even think if the figure I wanted was sold out that I would settle for a fake/recast. I would have to have the real thing. This aint even a resin kit lol. Its a proper pre-painted job.
Not a resin kit? It says "MANGA SHINING WIND KUREHA ADULT RESIN FIGURE YELLOW NEW" right in the title of the auction. They took a recast and painted it. They can paint it any color you like, so that's where you find the black and yellow Kureha selling at the same price. If you think it'll be a "proper pre-painted job", I have only one word for you: Haha! If you do end up getting it, compare it against the Max Factory PVC Danny got. http://www.dannychoo.com/adp/eng/1190/Kureha.html
E2046 looks like the actual official figures!
I forgot that resin automatically means kit lol. My bad.
Spot on. eBay sellers based in Hong Kong I would always avoid. You'd be pretty much cursed if you actually live there and want to sell legit figures. I've found that when searching, including the manufacturer's name helps somewhat, to filter them out.
Have to agree with you on that one, the couple of times I've been stung with fakes they've both been from Hong Kong. I tend to just stick to buying figures at release now, if I miss out then I'll check the few sellers in Japan I know sell legit stuff on Ebay.
This is a lovely example of a cheap Chinese bootleg that unregistered anime sellers will push. It's so bad compared to the real one. Before you buy any figure, make sure the dealer is a genuine anime retailer and the items are not cheap bootlegs ~_~.
Being a collector of resin kits, I don't have any "fakes" as such but I do have a few recasts which are similar. Basically a recast is when someone buys an original resin figure and then uses it to make a new mold to mass produce copies of the parts. Hence the name. They're really easy to spot, but only once you get to see the actual product (they usually come in a simple box or bag with a single sheet of instructions and a photo of the completed figure). Most official products come with a little extra such as a stamp from the maker and the like. The quality is not usually as bad as fake PVC figures like this Kureha but recasts do tend to require more work than an official one. And some recasts are very poorly made, esp if they are from korea or Thailand.
Lucky i only buy figmas directly from Japan from a very nice shop. And so far as i can tell they are all orginal. *compares with Danny pics*
it's so abvous that both figures are fake, even the one that meimi thinks is real is also most likely a fake. it's so hard to trust ebay sellers with figures.
The only real safe way to buy the "good" figures is to buy them directly from folks in Japan. Meaning that the figure is most likely real if the seller says he lives in Japan. I personally only buy figures from Japanese sellers, I don't trust the US sellers either.
I agree with you to an extent. You don't need to go to Japanese sellers to be assured of a genuine figure. If you shop with reputable online retailers like Hobby Link Japan (Japan), PlayAsia (Hong Kong) or KidNemo (US), the chance of getting a pirated product is almost nil. For auction sellers (like those in Yahoo Japan Auctions), the old adage of "Buyers beware" still applies. The chance of getting a pirated figure is slim, but pirated figures do exist in Japan. This is a link of an article in AkibaBlog showing their Japanese readers ways to spot a pirated Kasumi: http://www.akibablog.net/archives/2006/06/etcpirate_editi.html
Hmm, I once bought a fake GSC 1/6 Saber Holiday version (just for testing only). Within days, the figure leaning to the front already. Lastly, i gave the figure to my friends Also, this Ignis also being bootlegged : http://cgi.ebay.com.my/CHAOS-GATE-IGNIS-KATANA-STATUE-1-7-SCALE-Figure-DT238_W0QQitemZ380037252378QQihZ025QQcategoryZ1345QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem You can see that its SMG didnt fit into her hands perfectly. Oh, and the packaging said it was made by Max Factory (which is an obvious lies, coz the upcoming original one will be produced by Yamato)
I believe the reason the packaging says it's from Max Factory is because those moron pirates copied the box design of Max Factory Ignis. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10048486p/10/1 Max Factory Ignis has already been pirated. The pirates simply re-use the same box design for the bootleg of the wonderful WHF Ariake 18 Ignis. I love her dynamic pose. http://www2.moeyo.com/img/08/05/05/6/620.html
I never have or buy any fake figure, I just can't buy it because fake figure quality is so bad..
Found this link on "How to spot fake anime PVC figures" guide. http://blogs.ebay.com/antibootleganimefigure/entry/How-to-spot-fake-anime-PVC-figures/_W0QQidZ203717013 Hopefully this will help for those that are planning to buy figures.
I've got a fake suigintou and a fake rider. *_* they aren't really bad, the plastic and a little of the paint job is just a bit low quality. The really irritating part about these fake figures are the fact that they are priced almost the same as the original, which is so much of a rip-off :(
I don't think a real collector want to buy a bootlef figures. But sometimes a collector with limited budget might try to find a bargain figure for their collection, and eBay usually is the answer. I bought lots of things from eBay for years, 5 years ago I don't think there's bootleg figures, they haven't made them yet. But since the figures collecting itself become more popular the bootleggers then decided to make bootleg figures and sell them, especially sellers from China. One seller offer Evangelion Gothic Lolita Asuka $5.00 Buy It Now price, you just know it's a fake figure. I have lots of examples that I can make full length article about this topic (maybe I will make one someday). So buyers beware from some eBay sellers. The best way is to buy figures from reputable online sellers like HLJ or HobbySearch.
Seems folks can make a fake of ANYTHING.
Maybe action figure like figma, revoltech etc is harder to be bootlegged, as I never found any of them being bootlegged
Of 79 figures so far, I'm lucky to have only 2 fakes: Gothic Asuka from Evangelion (but well made, didn't know till a collector pointed it out in my photos) and Half-Dressed Teletha from FMP (I got her on eBay for only a few bucks, so no biggie). Fortunately, in the end, I bought the genuine figures for both of them, haha. ^_^ Here's my fake Gothic Asuka: http://www.xjaymanx.com/toybox/2007/06/20/blog-085-does-faking-it-matter/
I already purchased many figures from HLJ, Play-Asia, Kidnemo, Hobby Search and eBay. I've found no problems when purchasing figures in eBay, I just see the price and the seller feedback, if the price is far below the original retail price and the seller reputation is below 98%, avoid. Many HK sellers sells original figures and at a good price. Ebay is a good source if you know how to use it.
Why that little ripoff!!!....I hope they will leave Hatsune Miku alone!!!
Yes, unfortunately, I have 2 fake figures in my collection. I bought both when I was still quite new to collecting figures, so I didn't know what was real and what was fake. eBay is a good source for figures ONLY IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING. There are many sellers on eBay that have BOTH real and fake figures for sale. For example, I know a seller on eBay who gets their inventory from AAA Anime and Diamond Comics (official distributors for the Japanese manufacturers), but the eBay seller also imports fake figures and sells them as well!
I wouldn't own fake figures just because they are 'fine' to have. It's the best thing in the world to have a legit & professionally made and painted PVC figure. It hurts your wallet to spend a lot on a figure but it doesn't hurt as much as looking at a fake figure sitting in your room somewhere. I cannot imagine a collector that collects both fake and legit.
I was looking on ebay for a figure and I bid on a cheap one only to end up with a fake one... Only way to figure out which ones are real is through their price.
I never use eBay anymore.. too many pirates.... now i just hope that the figre i want is stocked by HLJ
I consider myself a real collector...on a budget :D sometimes when I see a bootleg figures with dynamic pose and form, I bought it so I have more reference to draw. But also, I refuse to buy original nendoroid... because I find paying that much (3000-3500 yen) for such a small figures is ridiculous (that's why I bough the bootleg nendoroid haruhi for about 7 usd, sure there's many flaw in its painting here and there, but nothing I couldn't fix). So far, I'm trying my best to fill my collection with originals though :D (only have 4 bootlegs so far because they were soo cheap when I bought it)
Maybe it's only me, but I don't think it's THAT bad...wouldn't buy it though. Remember MOK-KOS was way worse, and an official product to make things worse. But fake figures will never be as good as the original ones.. I guess it's just not worth using good material and decent paint job to make fake ones. Also: People who make the original stuff are artists... takes more than some cheap labor to produce something as good as the original figures.
I got some fake Pinkies once, but that was it. I buy from reputable retailers (pretty much just Kid Nemo) now.
I found fake figures in China Town. The price is 50% of the original. and the paint job is pretty bad
I've seen fakes being sold here, and yet their prices are still... incredible. Fortunately I only buy figures from reputable online stores so no chances of getting fakes. ^^
The pain! My eyes bleed!
At least one of my first figures is fake. One was a PVC Haruhi Suzumiya Bunny Dress in Bubba pose in a box like Atelier Sai. Cost me CAN$30 http://www.pireze.org/blog/?p=296 And the other one could be my 1/6 Saber Swimsuit from Alter. The box look the original come with holographic sticker, but the paint is bad and some of the unions are not good, if you look close. Could this figure did not pass the QC and was sell under the table?.
I do have fake figures too, bought 2 of them knowing they are fake, but the quality isn't so bad, the face resembles the real one though the paint job is rather crappy. Kinda regret it now. >__<!
LOL, I wonder who'll buy it...
Well, I have to be very careful when purcahsing figures. I have to see if it's real or not. The box is the first thing I see. If the box color seems off or something or if it doesn't have the company logo, I can tell if it's fake or not. Next I look at the figure inside the box. From what I see, I can tell if it's fake or not. Third, the store, is the store known for selling bootleg goods or not. Those are the things I see. If it's too cheap, then it's a fake I feel.
Damn. everytime i see fake figures i feel so mad, because i have experience i have to saving money to buy original one. and my friend buy the fake and told me it same.
Rip.off. Indeed; although the colour scheme looks somewhat nice, maybe this can be used for a special edition? I have 2 fakes in my collection. Both from Pia Carrot. They were dirt cheap so I bought them, before noticing that the origin was China. Nuff said. I keep them around to remind myself of what happend if you go for the lowest price...
She doesn't look too bad, actually.. I still wouldn't buy one though, especially if it's expensive. If it were cheap, then I'd snatch it up in an instant xD
thats y I don't buy from ebay. I don't trust the sellers there... bought a few figures from ebay, and wasnt very satisfied. so I stopped buying from them. my advice is, if you want good figures then buy from the stores that danny recommmends like kids nemo or hlj (hobby link japan)
That's a shame ... and why Kureha ? *sniff* In the Fact, Fakes seems to be cheaper, but they lack really in qualitiy, so i'm buying only the real and good ones.
woooh, the pirated kureha are like emo girl.... real emo/despair
Many fake figures here.I am one of the victims. Why those chinese freaks (Sorry no hard feelings)...
Yaaaaaaaaayyy!!! I got something hijacked by Danny-san!!! :Wuuuuuh!!:
I've bought fan made figurines do those count as fakes?
Well if they're official kits but painted by fans then they arn't fake. But if they're fake kits.... Or if you meant something completely different, like these people actually sculpted them, themselves, well thats a whole different ballgame my friend.
They sculpted and painted them themselves.
Well then I wouldn't count them as fakes. They're just handmade-fanmades.
oh wow, they even have the same price.
unfortunately we do have some fakes - damn ebay...
I bought fake figures on ebay couple times. I really hate ebay. =/
Give me the real one.
Wow. That one actually looks kinda decent compared to the other fakes ive seen...
Decent i think, if the price isn't expensive, i buy
My first figure (Saber) was a fake. The price was quite cheap, and so was the quality. i only buy originals now... ---> Check for some identifications of it's originality and buy from 'selected' places.
Is it just me or is the same seller selling both the real and fake version? How can we know either is real.
I've got a bootleg Masterpiece Optimus Prime and Binaltech Silver Streak. Both of which are near identical to the originals and even have metal parts in all the right places.
the real one looks much better.. but.. this fake one doesn't look that bad to me.. nice paint-job i guess? this is the 1st time i saw them changing the colors of fakr figures.. O____O
Fake figures are just crap because there're always indecent people who cheats other persons by telling that thay have the original to sell. And it's true that the originals are sometimes too expensives and the only option is to buy something cheap but I prefer to get one original than ten fakes. Greetings.
I hate fake figures, I really do. >.>
