24 Screens setup

Hijacked from Benjamin who discovers a setup that kicks seven shades of poop out of the Emperors Chair. Ideal for folks who like to look at multiple sources while taking care of their health - are you one of these people?

Original text from Benjamin below.
The setup that transcends all setup to become the super setup-jin, the likes of which humanity has never seen, and this setup's power level is over 9000!!.. Alright, enough with the silly hype, what do you think of this setup? Is this even real? I find 24 screens setup excessive though.. Image from 4chan

and it's 9000% impossible to have this kind of setup..even the new Mac which supports only max 4 screen cant do this.

Never the less, good effort by the otakus ^_^

What part isn't possible? Having the 27 unique displays or hooking up more then 4 monitors to a machine?

You can actually. Samsung has monitors that can be daisy-chained via a USB cable. Another company called Maxtrox creates graphics cards which meets specific needs such as these. Especially useful for "busy" people. One example is the monitors with the stock market reading, graphs, etc on it which are projected across multiple displays.

Mac only supports 4 screens? that would really suck if it's true.

24 monitors is not hard even when not using USB monitors.

XP supports 10 screens naively, extendable to infinite with additional software.
(Don't know about additional vista software but likely possible.)

You could also use matrox tripleheat2go boxes making three 1280x1024 monitors seem like one 3840x1024 screen to the system.
So you could use 30 screens with XP or vista without additional software.

Even without tripleheat2go adapters,
getting enough DVI connectors into the system is easy using 4-port graphics cards. Connecting 24 monitors to six 4-port cards (PCI and 1xPCIe) that will fit into most standard ATX motherboards, is not much of a problem.

24 screen = 24 CPU?
i don't even bother to have that much, 1 is good enough
since we need to focus when we want to see/play something

Why not? You just need a KVM switch. It ain't that hard going through visual novels since all you do is just click away for the text to appear unlike FPS or strategy games where you really need concentration.

For the naysayers out there this is doable. It's done with dumb headends, small computers with only enuf intelligence to take the input from the main system and output the video to the screen. thes systems are common in high data flow environments (e.g. 911 call centers).

I'v seen Doom 4 played on a 18 screen system.

Agreed, this is possible for the nay-sayers out there, in my College (Seneca College @ York) they've got a 12 screen setup like this and 4 stacked servers that can display multiple screens on each of the LCD panels and can also be used as one single monitor.

Not everything is photoshopped.

Putting six 4-port graphics cards (mixed PCI and PCIe) into the system will cost about €/$ 2400 (400 each) plus ~3600 for 24 cheap 17 or 19inch LCDs (150 each)
The used stands look like ergotron DS100 which alone would set you back a few thousand for that setup, but if you would like to build one for your self a little wood and 24 $10 vesa wall mounts would also do the trick.

So including the PC about €/$6000 for a cheap 24-monitor system.

I estimate that the pictured one cost more than €/$30000. The monitors look like samsung models from 2002/3 costing €/$1000 each back then.
