Whats the most money you would pay for a figure? How about 15.2 million USD for a figure of a young lad waxing his dolphin? These figures were created by designer Takeshi Murakami and were sold off at a recent auction. Not sure how much the milk cannon girl fetched. Nearly forgot to mention they are 1/1 scale. Via Itai News.
Danny-san, don't forget to mention they're "life-sized". That, plus they're sculptures. Kinda justifies the price... However............... The theme...... Just......... No.
Price justified... ^^;
*jaw drops* Nothing justifies this. lol
That kind of figures or illustrations... DO NOT WANT!! I like my 2D girls to be realistic and WTH with the guy?!
And milk and male gel... Millions for a price... Fuzakeruna!!! Even if free, do not want!
D_Blade, can you give an example of a realistic 2D girl? ('~')
Those who have shapes a real human could have (obviously not the case of the featured one here). ^^;
He is a super hero - go go DolphinWaxingMan, show teh bad guys your utlra mega waxing :D
Gahhh the figure look sickening!!!!.....I thought the white stuff was a towel for a minute..........Do NOT want........
Gahhhh! What the hell is with the sxpression of that guy figure....it look happy for some reason......
He just shot a HUGE load, what guy wouldn't be happy in that situation?
snot almost came outta my nose when I saw this LOL!!!!!
OMG, I worship Takeshi Murakami. I would pay ridiculous sums of money to have an OoAk Murakami original in my house, although I don't think I'd ever see that much money in my life time... As a girl, I would totally go for the young lad with the energetic dolphin. It would sort of freak me out at first, and depending on the proportions of this life-sized figure either I would get a complex from having a life-size model so skinny or my husband would develop a complex on how genki his dolphin is...
I would want a typical-sized figure were they to be made. It's just hilarious, but as for unwanted witnesses, I guess that's a fun problem to solve as a result.
i like the guy, but the girl is... meh, dont want... too big boobs just bad for your health you know :D
Scary enough already, no need to be reminded about health/back problems. XD
Only if I had the spare change.
I wouldn't even take this as a freebie. ^^''
Seconded.

Think I'd come better off if I use the money for regular figures ^^
W T H?!
I read about this on WIRED but hadn't thought to post it, now that we can ._. http://blog.wired.com/underwire/2008/04/preview-murakam.html I love the potent young man (My Lonesome Cowboy indeed). I use a cropped version as an avatar elsewhere for shenanigans <:
... ... ... ...Meh. I mean, it's high-quality new-age art and all... but, meh.
Well, everyone has different tastes in art (I don't quite like this, and I don't quite like abstract art...) It is a very great piece though. He's made a life sized figure, with the paint job and finish, it looks just like a miniature figure. The girl also embodies the 'typical' anime girl, with the large chest, vibrant hair color, and ridiculously beautiful figure. Not much to say about the guy except for he has big hair...
Too large of a chest scares me (talk about exaggerated), frankly.
...I quite agree on the art part. Having to study art theory last semester, this would...definitely be considered some form of art. It's definitely eyecatching and makes a bold statement. Quite impressive really. Still, this isn't something I'd want to see ever again. x_x"
xDDDDDDDDD OMG, WHY
Danny, I have to give you props for posting this. When I found the NY Magazine article (http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2008/05/takashi_murakami_watches_from.html) referencing that a few days ago I had to think long and hard before deciding that I didn't want a picture of a "boy waving an ejaculate lasso" on my front page. Definite props.
argh...just disturbing
imagine inviting guests over, what do you say to them when they first see it? "he's potent"
"No, it's not a coatrack."
most disturbing is how would you explain it to the kids? kid: hey dad, what the freaky guy doing? dad: he's making soap for the family. xD
LOL! Liquid soap XD
What I like most about this fellow...is the title.
was drinking a glass of milk when reading this. now I can't finish the glass and the rest went out the nasal passage and is all over the table. ^^; orz
Thank you for describing your reaction so much in detail. ^^;;;
much obliged D_Blade. ^^ thank goodness I missed the laptop. then again if I had the laptop Bukake Protection: http://www.dannychoo.com/detail/mac/eng/image/2252/Laptop+Bukakke+Protection.html it wouldn't have been a problem. ^^;
Do Not Want!!! Do Not Want!!! Do Not Want!!! Do Not Want!!!
*Nod
1/1 scale?!? That is insane. Wish they'd make a 1/1 saber figure instead. Now that I'd try to buy.
That existed last year sometime, perhaps earlier, though I don't remember it looking like the following: http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/4848/img2221sp5.jpg
It's even bigger than 1/1 scale. The statue stands 2.54-meter-tall (8-feet, 4-inch). The girl statue sold earlier for $2.72 million.
These figures belong in the furnice! Burn them I would!
orice justified, but the poses themselfs........... *Do Not Want*
.....ummmm.......ermm.....what...hmmm... um...NO DO WANT!!!
I will love a 1/1 figure but from Max Factory or Kotobukiya, this ones not even for free.
This ones belongs to top worst section.
Oh that makes sense! I was like "for just a figure?..." but then 1/1 scale yea... However, those figures...
Murukami is already famous/rich he can basically charge whatever he wants for his art pieces :T
Worth mentioning that these figures (or sculptures) are considered pieces of art, and they are already kinda old. Murakami's work is known worldwide and are on a kinda different level than other regular artists, with his work being classified more as pop subculture than anime related. I saw it on this book called Superflat (Amazon has it) among with many other japanese artists that has many works that are also classified as pop subculture rather than anime related, despite having the same characteristics. Much like Yoshitomo Nara. Still, the price it reached shure is incredible...
Looks like you're preaching to the wrong crowd, and I suppose I'm not learning from your mistake, heh, but anyways, here's my interpretation it. Almost all of you are completely missing the point. Disgusted? That's because the _statues_ are embodiments of a criticism against the shallowness of anime, manga, and otaku culture in general. They only extend the already greatly exaggerated portrayal of sexuality in otaku culture -- I'm sure if you have come across H-manga and H-doujins before, you have most likely already encountered large breasts and ejaculations of... great volumes, and even if not, you have surely come across fan service anime, ecchi manga, and trashy figures (they're all over this site, duh) featuring similarly styled characters. And yet. by distorting that only a little, Murakami creates a slightly disturbing image that questions otaku culture and sexuality. The epiphany comes when you realize how little Murakami deviates from the standard quo, but by actualizing the sexual ideals printed on paper in life-sized sculptures, he captures the hint of deep perverseness in otaku, which is proven when each of you shuddered in disgust -- they are the unsightly reflections of anime, manga, and otaku culture that you all envy so much, a materialistic and hyper-sexualized culture, a fact none of you can deny (yes, I realize just about everything in media is materialistic and sexualized these days, don't bother bringing that up, as it still doesn't change the argument at hand). There is damn good reason why the sculptures are valued at an amount greater than what most of you would make in your entire lives. This page is testament to the provoking nature of Murakami's art. Of course, I'm not asking you to LIKE the sculptures, but it seems almost none of you are giving them the few moments of thought they deserve. ...and I'm spent, God, talking about not learning from another's mistakes.
Hahaha that guy one is hilarious! I'd take it for giggles. Also for the look on people's faces when they see it.
lol, only in Japan, etc. Art is what you make of it I suppose. I wonder what my mum would think of her Louis Vuitton Murakamis now if she saw these =X
This .. is art? You couldn't even pay me to take it.
Hahaha it's like they are doing magic tricks, the male figure looks so proud of himself ^o^
@Chag, I see your point, if this Murakami wants to make aberrant scultures, sure is succesfull...
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! I CAN'T UNSEE IT!
There is simply nothing right with this. Nuff said.
Saw these back when I was researching Japanese artists for an art project in year 10. I was still 14, so it was a little disturbing lol. Would not pay that much for them. Even if they are 1:1 ratio.
Is it me or does the guy look like Cloud Strife... or a super saiyajin somebody...
I bet if Goku went SSJ and used this technique on Freeza, he would've beaten him in the same episode...
1.....to.....1.... O_O
this is what your figures do when you sleep.
What can you catch with a...frothy lasso, anyway? O.o
ah.... no thanks... (-_______-.l|l
Whoa. A bit too intense for me, not to mention a very hefty price tag! Still, I can appreciate it. He's a great artist. The original artwork for these is in the MURAKAMI art book and also in another art book called Superflat (named after his style of artwork). Nothing super-flat about THAT girl! :-)
err.... Yikes!
I went to Murakami's show at the Brooklyn Museum last year. If you think that these are weird you should see his paintings. He did do some more otaku friendly stuff before getiing involved with the NYC art scene and being subsumed by the dark side.
this is great, I wonder how the buyer is gonna explain this to visiting guest's. maybe they will just hide them in there secret room.
Considering they are bigger than life size that's going to be rather hard unless they just lock the artroom up.
