Lucky Star Figma
Hijacked from member kenjiharima. The Lucky Star girls get the figma treatment. Tsukasa looks the cutest to me. Which of these Lucky Star girls is your fave?

Original text by kenjiharima below.

I'm starting the show with the US release on DVD. I'm a dub person, so I do it that way with most anime. And since only the first volume is out right now, that's all I've seen of Lucky Star (only the first 4 episodes). So you're not alone in being late!

I've just always been that way. If I want to read anime, then I'd just stick to manga instead. I've watched a few shows subtitled, but it just isn't the same. I find myself missing half the animation because I'm focusing too much on keeping up with reading the subtitles, and I end up having to pause and rewind frequently when I miss something.

I mean, the point of anime is to watch it, not read it. I like to just kick back and enjoy the animation and understand the show the way people in Japan do. They certainly don't "read" anime. It was never meant to be watched that way, so I feel going with dubs is far closer to the intended experience of anime and the director's vision, then going with subtitles. I know most people disagree with me on that, but that's just how I feel about it.

Oh god help us all, the quintessential american reaction. "I don't like to read mah annie-may." It's called learning, if you spend most of your time reading subs and not watching the animation, well I don't want to be insulting. And "closer to the director's vision"??? are you serious?! Dubs betray they director's vision. Most dub actors have absolutely horrid voices, and the lack of cultural relevance in translating most anime (at least the corporate people that do it, fansubs are a labor of love, so I'm way spoiled) ESPECIALLY something like Lucky Star makes me want to punch the idiot companies that bought the rights to "ruin" stuff, in the face. Ucch, I can't even consider Lucky Star being dubbed, "Konata do you want some doughnuts?" *hands her an onigiri* *shudders*

I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said. Much to often do I see that position bring taken and those excuses being used, it's very typical of americans and quite disappointing.

I don't mean to be insulting to anyone who likes dubs but I do think they should give subs a chance, after a short amount of time watching subs you DO tend to read them a whole lot faster, there is still plenty of time to watch the animation itself.

And watching the dubbed version is the absolute furthest thing from "the way people in Japan understand it" That's what's wrong with this idiot country, people make too many dumb excuses for why they lack the wherewithal to read or learn something.

Why do you guys have be so insulting? I gave my (legitimate) reasons for prefering dubs, and you just trash me? Real classy.

As I've said, I have seen a number of anime shows all the way through in sub format. And I just don't enjoy it that way. Dub voice actors are actually really good. Back in the 90's I would agree with you, but that is outdated thinking at this point. Modern American anime companies use very good actors that are very professional. In many cases the dub actors do a better job then even the original Japanese actors. And Lucky Star has a fantastic dub. They even used the same voice actress for Konota has Haruhi, just like the Japanese version.

And it has nothing to do with me being "dumb" or "lazy", believe me, I get plenty of reading in all the role playing games that I play, and visual novels that I read. I just prefer dubbed anime, and I've been a huge otaku for over 10 years, so I'm won't be changing any time soon.

I respect your opinions and preferences, so why can't you do the same for me? Talking down to me and insulting me like that is really low, and you know it.

This is aimed at MARl0 since I couldn't reply to his post.

I don't mean to be insulting in any way with my comments, although as I stated your position of only liking dubs and such really gets on my nerves to no end, you have every right to your opinion and I don't mean the comment to be insulting, you shouldn't take it as so.

No problem, I was more refering to Karasu-kun anyway. The way he talked down to me like that, and tried to insult my intelligence was degrading as hell, and it was totally uncalled for.

I feel very strongly about my belief in watching dubs over subs, and my reasons for doing so. He's more then welcome to disagree, and give his reasons for his beliefs, but he had no right to insult me like that.

i started that way too...I hated japanese voice acting at first, gradually came to accept it, then like it, now I never watch in English, soon I won't need subtitles anymore. I blame it all on really bad English voice acting.

I totally prefer the chibified versions like the Nens. I never liked the Figma series very much, the whole doll joints thing puts me off, and these specifically look closer to the manga version of LS than the anime ones, imo. In general they are cute, though. They need to mainstream the Nens the way they did with Konata's Figma ver. YHJ auctions are waaaaaaay too expensive.
