Akiba Danger

Akiba Danger
Now that there is a reduction of the amount of cosplayers, looks like the police are turning their attention to folks speeding on bicycles. When the cosplayers and bicycles are gone, maybe they will start to pick on otaku like they do in Shinjuku?

i don't understand how it works in Akihabara but aren't there separate lanes for bicycles in the streets? I would understand the fuzz stopping cyclists who endanger pedestrians with their speed though.

Japanese police stop almost everyone who rides bikes nowadays especially foreigners. They check to see if the bike is stolen or if you have your gaijin card.

That sounded like a long battle for a busy district, but a good enough reason to keep them from embarrassing otaku.

And the thing about Japanese police searching otaku sounds (to me) similar to American government and... you know...

This feels like it's happening soon Soon they might pick on otaku then maybe another group of people. Are they going to check their bags more often or forbid otaku's from entering Akiba or other people in general. If someone does something stupid like going around a street cosplaying with a weapon, then get caught. The police thinks that all cosplayers are like that. Why must other groups suffer because of some moron doing something stupid. Whatever happened to giving the people second chances. What is this world coming to...

As a cyclist , there should really be a limit to where you should do your running and when to seep up. It is just proper to stop peeps like these if necessary to avoid further accident.

Boring Akiba > sales on otaku goods in Akiba decreased > complaints by established otaku shops in Akiba flooding on government office > Akiba lively again.

Let's hope it's going to be that smooth eh? ^^

I really hope this is only some kind of weird phase that eventually passes. I am hoping I can re-locate to Japan in the next couple of years and I really love Akihabara. I have such great memories of visiting there. There isn't any place on earth I like more.

In my experience living in Japan...almost no one ever observes the traffic signs for cyclists.

...if nothing else, perhaps the police were bored. I don't see many cyclists in general in Akiba on Sundays though.

I'm wondering if the people on the bicycles will stop at the blow of the whistle first. There's always the (ridiculous but faint) notion of escaping back home and simply getting scott-free...

Japanese pavement cyclists are a nightmare. I saw a speeding salaryman on a cycle practically cut a kid in half in Akihabara.
