"NTT has begun selling a device that transmits data across the surface of the human body and lets users communicate with electronic devices simply by touching them, the company announced on April 23.
The new product, called “Firmo,” consists of a card-sized transmitter carried in the user’s pocket. The card converts stored data into a weak AC electric field that extends across the body, and when the user touches a device or object embedded with a compatible receiver, the electric field is converted back into a data signal that can be read by the device. For now, Firmo transfers data at 230kbps, but NTT is reportedly working on a low-cost 10Mbps version that can handle audio/video data transfers. "
This product could be good news for perverts who go around touching womens bottoms - they could say "I was only trying to transmit some data..."

LOL!
But be careful, since there is the risk of touching the wrong girls/guys who might be bold enough to bring the case to the police. ^^

In that case, maybe touching someone's "eye's" = downloading data? LOL!

So if all the devices in my house were on the same signal then they would only respond to my touch. Nifty.
That'll keep people off my computer! Haha!
They don't have "my touch".

An interesting idea. They've been working on something similar at MIT (?) for lifesign sensors.

Thats a new toy for criminals & terroists to use.
You could make information trades without anyone knowing, just find your client in the crowd and bump into him, successful trade and you just sold your fellow country to whoever or killed off a company.
Pretty niffty in passing eroge without being spotted haha.

Wow, that's pretty damn awesome. I guess the next step after data storage and transmission is probably true manipulation, like if you want to adjust your oven to a certain temperature or something. As close to telepathy and telekinesis as we can get... unless we can get a device to do it for us, haha.

Perhaps this is more what you are thinking of in terms of manipulation: http://emotiv.com/corporate/2_0/2_2.htm

hmmm, I'm a little slow about this stuff, so what kind of data does it transfer? Like it give you the size of eyes if you touch them?

wow this is cool-some
just imagine
1) lovers transmitting love notes/affections while touching each other
2) lady on train transmits "i am so going to beat you up when we un-board the train" when touch by stranger on ass

Great!
I heard of that technology, but only prototypes... kinda useless prototypes.
Nice to see it's being put to good use.
Last time I saw, some guy had something like that... only it was inside his shoes, and it kinda required a bunch of wires plus something that he had to carry on his belt.
And then, when he shook hands with someone else that was also equiped with the stuff, they exchanged business information... kinda like some wireless business card.

Maybe, I think it's possible but only if the card can read some kind of electrical signals from our brain and also only if our brain can produce that kind of signal.
Doraemon says our brain can though. There is this moving floor that can receive electrical signals from the brain so we can just think where to go and the floor moves by itself. ^^
