Tissue Consumption in Japan

A Japanese person consumes 4.5 kilos worth of tissue paper per annum compared to the US where one person only consumes 1.3 kilos.
Does this mean that the Japanese care more for their dolphins?

I think its because of all those people handing out free tissue packs everywhere ;p
That kinda stuff never happens in north america
but seriously, you can get a TON of free tissues just from collecting them in one day, never have to buy a tissue in your life.

You got some given to you? I found the Pachinko advertising men giving them out on street corners wouldn't give them to me, maybe because I is gaijin or something.

In Hong Kong the 7-11 staff usually stuffed my carrier bags with freebie tissue packs, but I didn't have this happen in Japan for some reason.

Well... that depends on the frequency of several things, at least one of which is tied to the individual's gender.

When I think more of it...
- The chocobo one was to show other people whether I was online of offline;
- The cetacean one was for comic relief only;
- My pic to show others who I really looked like.
Well, since people have accepted my face, I will drop the other two.
Accept?
Yes/No (Makes the same face as Yuki did in the "Day of Sagittarius III" episode when awaiting confirmation)

i read somewhere that asians are more prone to pollen allergies and stuff, so that may explain the discrepancy of the tissues used. that or we get more nosebleeds and take care of our dolphins better.

Which is the reason for the high tissue consumption in Japan:

(A)More nosebleed
(B)More dolphin care
(C)More free tissue
(D)More allergy
(E)All of the above

^^

I went into a DVD store somewhere in Tokyo. 1 floor was for Hollywood movies etc. 6 floors were for "other genres".

Although there might be a perfectly innocent explanation, like all those cherry blossoms being a nightmare for pollen allergy sufferers.

As you can see, dolphins are non-toxic and washable.
Unfortunately, their products will now be known as "dolphin" products from now on.

Btw, why don't they just to their thing in the bathroom?

Sounds nosebleed-related indeed.
On a more serious but related note, did true nosebleed often when I was a kid... I was so weak-constituted back then, I wonder why. Glad it's over now.
As for tissue, I tend to steal a lot from fast food restaurants... Wait, it's free (or rather the prices of their food are high enough to take a handful of them, so I'm not really a thief in the end for that... LOL. ^^;

Dry air, repeated irritation with lack of mucus (sorry if you're eating) are a good way to have your tiny blood vessels in the nose burst happily -> true nosebleed.
Don't worry, I know that too well.

Let's see... I spent 20 days in Japan.
I can say I could just save 20... or maybe more tissue packs!

They were handled everyday on local train stations... and as we usually went to Tokyo, most stations there also had people doing the same.

It's an interesting way to market things, specially if people use them a lot.

Yup ! Even in Singapore, we use much more tissue papers than in France.
I already only used tissue paper to blow my nose in France but it seems in S'pore, they use it to clean everything in a very disposal way. As a result there are tissue box in very room of the house.

If you ask me, it is not very enviromental friendly.

And the tiisue in Asia are sooo thin!
