Well...it depends, i found out that most of the live actions made by Hollywood sucks. There were also some great live action were made such as Initial D which i found to be acceptable.

for those who didnt watch Ghost Shell..they will think it copy matrix(actually it is other way round)
for those who have watched, live....i dont want it to be "real" character that dont have purple hair for the heroine
besides, GS need to explain a lot of how the world setting is in the movie, coul they do that?
Like what is tachikoma, and think the lost of innocent character and voice....no I dont want that to happen!!!
Sorry guys, I'm just to in in Ghost in the Shell...

i have faith that Spielberg can pull this one off as long as he gets some friendly non-competetive and creative input from Masamune Shirow and Mamoru Oshii. If the film does get made, I'm imagining it to be a cross between Munich and Artificial intelligence.

Since Matrix has ended, they tried to find the closest one and more precisely the inspiration itself: GiTS...
Well, as I lost complete faith in Hollywood and television (making Internet the only media I'm plugged to), this news doesn't really affect me. I then just hope they will not destroy the original concept with some bad acting, plot holes or hasty interpretations (those three being some of the easy ways to screw up in a formidable way).

It might turn out to be a entertaining movie but I highly doubt that it will be true to it's source as this movie is most likely geared towards random moviegoers and not to the anime crowd.

Well, at least it's Spielberg and not Uwe Boll doing the job.

OH SWEET!

But, I have a fear it may be crap, unless they pick a good director/writer that won't change a THING.

Why do I have fear? Because you see, all videogames that were turned into movies are 90% all crap, and I'm scared it will happen to anime too.

Anyways OH SNAP GITS MOVIE?!

should be rather entertaining, i'm pretty disappointed in Spielberg's last three movies, hopefully, he can redeem himself with something like Ghost in the Shell. i'll be watching this regardless of how awful it is. just hope they don't make it too deep, then the critics will start ripping on it without even understanding the core concepts of the franchise.

I see G-Savior didn't deter anyone... well, that's a good thing, right? But if they intend to market the name of GITS to the entire public, they have alot to story to tell; I can't imagine that even 20% of the total audience have watched GIS before this.

I guess we'll see how they do, and I suppose I'll feel obligated to see it sooner or later (if it ever actually comes out -- perhaps it will meet the same fate as the Evangelion movie), but my hopes are not high. I don't know if anybody can play the Major properly in 3D, as it were, and I definitely know it won't feel right without her seiyuu, and indeed will be downright weird if she's speaking English.

Debate over on the ANN forum is somewhat split. So far, Summer Glau, Kelly Hu and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn (English VA for Motoko) have been bandied about. I am somewhat hesitant to go Yay. I like the idea, and Spielberg can do good movies, but adapting GitS is going to be hard.

Dreamworks for Ghost in the Shell? I'm sold. I don't think it'll be too hard for character casting; Motoko and the rest weren't too over the top to begin with.

I mean compared to the live action dragon ball movie, this sounds a lot better and doable.

I think this is a good development. Not a hardcore Ghost In The Shell fan myself, but I know enough from past experiences not to expect too much from movie adaptations. They either stay close to the origins or stray far away, and it's not surprising. Either way, going into a movie with an open mind provides a much better experience.

Looking at this in a positive light, could open the world of GITS to new viewers, spawn more merchandise etc etc. I don't see this as a bad thing, as it will be interesting to see how Spielberg will interpret the story. If I wanted to see the original movie, I would just watch it again ^^;

I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. I trust Spielberg, although it would be cooler if Ridley Scott got his grubby mitts on it. It probably won't mirror any of the storylines we know, but be more of like a insightful dilemma filled flick on how machines and complex networks give birth to artificial intelligence and dilemmas that may arise from such an event.

I only hope that this, along with Street Fighter Chun Li Story, DragonBall Z and some other titles don't actually come out.

Now, I like Spielberg movies. What I don't like is Hollywood studios trying to take over things that don't belong to them.

Ghost in the Shell Live Action movie sounds good. American Ghost in the Shell Live Action movie sounds awful.

They can only make this thing work if the movie uses a complete japanese crew, is completely made in japanese language, and with full supervision by Masamune Shirow.

And even so, I have my doubts.

Yeah, call me a purist. But I love Ghost in the Shell, and I don't want it ruined because of some Hollywood movie.

And don't get me wrong, I LOVE hollywood movies, but at least for me, certain things should never get mixed up.

I hope Spielberg ain't picking Bay again to direct this film. But with the success of Transformers, he might just do it.
And if he will, be prepared for a LOT OF CHANGES devianting from it's original material.

Changes I expect to see made by Hollywood that I hope they won't make but I'm betting they will:

1) Non-Japanese actress to play Motoko. Probably any popular Hollywood Asian will do it for them.
2) Disregard of Shirow Tech Concepts such as
	a) Ceburo weaponry.
	b) Tachikoma/ Fuchikoma Design tampering or removal of the concept itself.
	c) Tachikoma/ Fuchikoma's childish AI behaviour.

Are they going with this whole puppet-master thing all over again? I'd like to see something else...

*It will be set in New york
*The tachikomas will have mouthes, eyes, and will be funnier to get the kids in.
*The plot will be extremely easy to follow

I'm not a fan of anime- or game-to-movie projects, mostly because they can never find actors that look the part or raep the story (Resident evil anyone?). Imo a 3D-CGI like FF might be better, but Spielberg did make something good with Minority Report, so I guess he's the best man for the job....

Waw, that's some news, with steven Spielberg at the helm it could turn out well.

Then again to really be able to pull off bringing a gem like "Ghost In the Shell" to live action? I too, have serious doubts they can pull it off and have it as good as the original... and I wouldn't want to see GITS tainted by a bad movie since it would give non-anime familiar people a wrong impression of it.

Sounds awesome, and something I can drag my friends too (lol). Just hope it makes more sense than the two animated movies did...

I need to read the manga now and watch the live action to catch up!

There's only one thing I wish for...that they not destroy the GITS name.

They better pick the right people to play the characters...I don't care if they're famous or not...they just better be perfect for the role. A movie as big as this will not go uncriticized by fans worldwide that's for sure.

No matter who the producer is, making a live action movie will only harm the whole GITS franchise. Since it's Steven Spielberg, I predict he'll compensate the lack of a good storyline and bad acting by with overpaid celebrities and cheesy SFX. Heaven forbid he ruin the untouchable status of Motoko Kusanagi.

Ghost in the Shell seems like it would make a relatively easy transition from anime to live action, But it I'm sure it will definately loose much of its' depth and complexity in the process. Especially if the live action version were directed by Speilburgh. That would be an awful choice of directors for that kind of project.

And another one bites the dust. That's now DBZ, Akira, GitS, and Astroboy that are being made live action that I know of, did I miss any? I swear if they kill this like I know they will to Akira, I'ma cry.
