Irem Zoo

(Games(29)
Tue 2008/04/01 15:36
Folks who know R Type will know that the maker is Irem. Irem recently announced that they are pulling out of the gaming industry and have opened a zoo as you can see from their official site.
I personally think this is good news and that it wasn't very nice of Irem to make a game like R Type where you loose *All* your weapons when you was hit - even before the boss stages.

So the great rival of Konami (It's Gradius I am talking about here) has decided to pull out?
Well, I personally believe the shoot 'em up genre is withering away.
If you complained about R-Type, Gradius was even worse... Why?
- You could crash yourself into walls;
- The original speed of the spaceships are also hyper slow, good luck with a cranky vessel and your pea shooter after losing a life;
-No charged shot, excepted for a very rare variation of the Laser shot;
Anyway, my favorite in the genre remains Parodius. ^^

No, but I really should... It's considered as being the best series in the genre on Genesis. ^^
But in fact I liked Blazing Star (on NeoGeo, via emulation) a lot.

Yup. Give it a try when you wanna walk down emulation lane. Thankfully, the company revived, so there might be more coming soon, glee!

Because I feel Danny has resented that his jokes had a mitigated effect those past years... So he is launching a wide area attack, from all sides and with elaborate weapons such as fragmentation/spread bombs. ^^

Doesn't sound like an April Fools joke... has Irem release any other game other than R-type? I really don't know...

But I like the first R-type... the music was great for 8-bit Master System.

But I sucked at it. A friend of mine did finish it though...

I near had copious amounts of stamina, so the only stage I ever completed for R-Type II, which was the only R-Type game I had, was level 1.

...But why switching to a zoo so suddenly '_'?

If I was involved in that zoo, I would strap a hat shaped like the ship to the head of a rhino, and then ships from the Bydo Empire on the other rhinos and hope they charge each other.
