More screenshots of DokiDoki Majo Shinpan 2 are up at Dengeki. For those who dont know, this is a game where you use the NDS stylus to poke about various parts of a girls body. I've got the first one - got stuck on some stage and never got to poke about. Which brings be to a question about the PSP - I don't own a PSP but imagine it must be a pain trying to type stuff. Do you think the PSP needs a stylus? PV for the game below.
I think the PSP tried to win the hand-held business with the "I got better graphics" card. But Nintendo was smart developing more games that required the touch pad... So in essence, whatever Sony wants, Sony will do eventually... Although, before they create some kind of touch pad system for the PSP, RELEASE SRWOGS FOR THE PSP
The exact same could be said about the Wii and the PS3. However I do not regret buying myself a PSP; the special ability of the DS is also precisely why I didn't buy it... As an old-school gamer, I don't see myself using the stylus. ^^ Even when playing at my cousin's Ultimate Jump Superstars for a few sessions (an awesome game to say the least), I never used the stylus once, my hands were full already with packed action. Don't mistake me, the DS is great (as well is the Wii) for revolutionizing the world of videogames, but the remakes of PS games is all I wished for. FFT and Symphony of the Night were two of my all-time favorites and seeing & playing them again is all I wished for. No regrets. Valkyrie Profile, SF Alpha 3 and Megaman X are next. ^^ Now, why Suikoden, Breath of Fire III and Tales of Phantasia never were ported to North America baffles me completely... I would have bought those in a heartbeat if they were officially translated.
True, that. I also missed those classics so much, I actually tried to download Suikoden II and played it on my notebook using a psx emulator , but I failed miserably. >_< By the way, if you like FFT, did you also play Tactics Ogre? ^^
Yeah, the PS emulators (as well as all those that try to emulate (no other words in mind) disc-using consoles (Dreamcast, PS2, etc.) are relatively flawed. I gave up on them after a while. Tactics Ogre, right? This series is known to have been developed prior to FFT and giving the latter most system elements (isometric camera, battle system -including the uber-sweet idea of stabbing your foes in the back and to bully them for best results-)... I have tried the GBA version of it and liked it more than FFTA (which is a complete shame due to those so-called rules, on top of that having soccer-related elements... Yellow/Red cards WTF?!). However I am not really pleased with the job system and the proposed environment is still foreign to me... Being an old-school FF fan, you can easily imagine I got a heavy bias on which of the two I prefer. ^^; (Gee, I digressed and became partial again)
I have never played the GBA version but according to the grand sage wiki the Game Boy Advance game is set before the events of chapter 5 - Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen and chapter 6 - Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber. While Chapter 7 - Let Us Cling Together, which is the chapter of the Playstation version of Tactics Ogre, is set after all of the above games. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tactics_Ogre To be honest, I enjoyed this game more than FFT, mainly due to the ability to "choose your own destiny" which allows the players to unfold the story in a radically different manner depending on which choices are chosen. It's like an eroge, in a sense. ^^
Yes, the ability for choosing your own path is one of the strong points of Ogre Battle. Reminds me of Front Mission 3 as well (btw, I could never get in that series -except for Gun Hazard, which is a spin-off, very close to Cybernator... and also a gem- due to the completely random damage factor) You should definitely try the GBA version, for this is available as well.
I'll argue against this entirely, but here's some food for thought. Firstly, the PSP has within the last couple months, outsold the DS (and every other console) solely in Japan - don't remember if the states correlated to America as well. And even so, it's not enough to be creative and innovative, because Nintendo has always tried to do this, but they've never really carried through after the releases of their odd peripherals/consoles. For example, right now, I'm really hating the wii. Not because of the fact that it's a bad concept, but because of the fact that it's another good concept being abused by nintendo. Perhaps it's not nintendo's fault entirely though, but there is no push by developers to really pull out good games for the wii, and so,the wii ever remains abused in this continuous trend of trying to appeal to the "average" gamer by throwing a bunch of crappy titles at them and half assed re-iterations of older games. The abuse can be tracked down back to the gamecube and even the later years of the N64. Just think about it. When I look back at some of the utilities/peripherals that Nintendo's released, things like the gameboy advance connectivity with the gamecube really piss me off. The only games that used it to its intended use out of that peripheral was Four Swords and Crystal Chronicles. Now we've got some stupid wiifit game, which I can almost guarantee will have few purposes outside of the fitness game(-s, though I doubt other games will really bank themselves around this stupid peripheral). So ya, I'd like to agree with you in saying that all it takes is innovation, but the only success I've seen so far in that strategy for nintendo is only now happening, and that's on the DS. Sony started off on a bad leg within this generation (with both the ps3 and the psp), but I'd sooner place my trust in sony, then with Nintendo. And btw, that's not fanboyism, because the only console I own right now are the DS and the 360, though I will be getting the PS3 sometime this year (hopefully the summer). -End rant
and Guitar hero/DDR peripherals are "useful" in playing other games? (be it, I did try to play Soul Calibur III with the DDR pad... It was utter chaos) I think the DS and the Wii have many potentials to be discovered in the next generation of games. The PS3/PSP and the X360, imo, are just refurbishing old technology, and making it look good. imo, that is not progress, in terms of game developing. Not to say, I don't like my PSP, as well as the thought that I have games I want to play on the PS3... It's just that recently, Sony has been really sucking...
It says the video is no longer available. Anyway, I don't think the PSP needs a stylus. It just needs more great games. I've been playing Patapon lately on my PSP, and it just makes me wonder where great games like that have been hiding all this time on my PSP. My DS library of games is about 5 times larger then my PSP library...
go play monster hunter freedom 2, if u love God of war, u love this game. o, u can try MHP2ndG that will coming out at 27-03-2008 in japan(order it), if u language is not a problem to u
PSP needs stylus, it already has better graphic so why don't we add stylus for challenging NDS's interactivity? However, by doing so, Sony may be loathed to some extent.. copy-cat. ^^
Exactly, I just think Sony has to fight to produce the best portable games ever. If they begin to copy others, their reputation will definitely take a extreme hit and will be their downfall in the videogames domain.
Another great reason to visit Japan!
Danny, you should soooo get Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! (1 and 2) for the DS. Best example of how stylus games should be made.
I got both of them, but after I got the 2nd one, my screen started acting wierd & only half the screen was accurate on my touches....So I haven't gotten to play it much, aside from meh scores on Easy... Still a great series w/ awesome music. Can't beat a game where dude cheerleaders (& girls, but you gotta unlock them. They're hardest diff.) go around solving people's problems & then the world.
I don't even have a PSP. uguu~
Not much for handhelds after having a console, though having a DS wasn't all that bad. I still have people telling my I should make it more worth it than just two games ^_^|||
Great, another game I want to buy but can't...
that true, typing on a psp is a real pain. btw I have a question. I've heard of the term being used before, but what exactly does "dokidoki" mean? ^^;
dokidoki is onomatopoeia for a heart beating, it's often associated with nervousness.
I can't wait, I loved the first one... although I don't really like the designs as much as the previous game, I guess we'll see :D
if you like Final Fantasy 7, then get Crisis core for PSP, awesome game, graphics are pretty amazing for PSP capabilities. I was playing the Japanese version for a while, but will be getting the english one soon, since it was released the 23rd ^^ . another fun game is Patapon that was mentioned already, and i am enjoying Space Invaders Extreme on PSP. but on topic, PSP would be abit better with a stylus(rumour has it PSP2 will have one?) but in the end its a gaming console, who would want to go write on the screen when playing PS3 or Xbox? :P
You know, I fear that all games post the Square-Enix merging are lacking in substance and driven for commercial purposes only *cough* meaning them being crap *cough* I want to buy Burnout: Dominator though. This is the type of racing games I just love (Fell for the series as soon as I discovered it). If Sony makes a stylus version of its consoles, I have a neat idea for them... To create a drawing pad interface so people can make their own drawings and publish them freely. I know, it will be the end of the current drawing pads, but they shouldn't have been so costly in the first place *Extremely cruel/sadistic grin*
well only FF7 was partly for commercial purposes, and it being the 10 year anniversary of THE BEST rpg every made and stil is the best.. Final Fantasy VII. and it was nice to rejoin the cloud and crew to fill in some gaps that all FF games tend to have(and never fully revealed). FF12 was pretty good, i actually enjoyed it. i didnt have a PS2 when it came out, saw the game at my friends house.. and hell the 2 days later, bought myself a new TV, a PS2, and FF12. Got Wipeout Pulse for PSP recently, but havent given it alot attention needed to validate it.. but i liked what i did play.. one thing i didnt enjoy was the very soft music on it :/
I'll then read reviews and see if it's worth the trouble.
FUK YEAH!!! Doki Doki Majo Shinpan 2...HAS EYES!!! XDDDDD
I'd actually be okay with a PSP keyboard than a stylus when it comes to inputting text and such. Though, there are times when you don't need such extra interactivity; creative use of the PSP's features can suffice. Case in point: Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (which I am currently playing - and am addicted to :p). It's pretty fun turning on the game's Access Point Scan and just walking around in real life, trying to find wifi signals to recruit tougher and more skilled soldiers.
I think 1.5 years ago, there was some homebrew solution in the works, using a palm-keyboard. Saw vids on Youtube already, but i guess no game actually works with it... On CES Sony confirmed they are working on a first-party keyboard for the PSP. Maybe released in mid 2009
if they DO add one, what's gonna happen to the people who already bought it?? Soon they're going to make games that require those stuff, and it'll only make them use more money. As a person who likes playing games, that's quite unfair, cause then you'd have to buy another one, or at least use your money on buying a little gadget because you want to play this game that requires a stylus, and I dunno, if it was me, I'd go insane...
Sorry to tell you this, but it has always happened to be this way... Take the evolution of the Game Boy (feeling nostalgic just typing it) for example... From the Jumbo to the pocket, to the color... There were very minimal changes, however it did not stop people from buying them because they felt they had the ultimate handheld console in their hands! I'm glad I leaped from the Jumbo Game Boy to the PSP, otherwise I'd have gone quite insane myself, except when considering the few gems exclusively made for each version... Still I have no regrets on my choice.
That just means you missed playing awesome games. Golden Sun Advance Wars Mario Kart Advance Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow Zelda: Minish Cap Zelda: Season games Metroid Fusion Yoshi Island Fire Emblem Final Fantasy Tactics Pokemon Gold and Silver (ignore Ruby and Sapphire) and maybe Sonic Advance and Harvest Moon
Don't worry, I had the chance to try most of them via emulation (though I know the feeling is much different). Aria of Sorrow is one of my favorite Castlevania out there, preceded by Symphony of the Night. I liked Minish Cap as well, and gave less love to Golden Sun. Fire Emblem is one of my favorite tactical RPGs and I got one myself for the GC (Path of Radiance). Never had the chance to try Advance Wars, I should one day... FFTA is in my opinion a result of madness, blasphemy and worth a Sparta Kick. I know, I am just a little pile of secrets, but I am also a complete devout of the original FFT (no wonder why I bought the remake). And finally for the rest of the games, it's a matter of preference, I'd leave them alone... And I feel I'm no good at Mario Kart, no matter how many times I'd try.
Love advance wars, mario BB, mario VS donkey kong and the castlevania series too.
heh, those really were fun. until gameboy SP got old and games for Advance decreased... and then came the PSP and gosh, it was expensive when it first came out -3-
wait... Pokemon Gold and Silver, and you talk about Fire Emblem? GBA? Was there a Gameboy version of Fire Emblem? Anyway: -Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/Fire Red/Leaf Green did renovate Pokemon... -Mario Kart is not that great -FFTA II is the ONLY good game in the FFTA series... FFTA is a humiliation. -FE in GBA are probably one of the BEST rpgs on handheld before the DS or PSP came out. You also forgot Summon Nights series, and Tales of Phantasia, another great rpg series.
nya-chama must have been talking about the three Fire Emblem on GBA, indeed... There was no FE on Game Boy. Tales of Phantasia GBA you say? I found it crappy when compared to the PS version (you should try the latter, it will blow your mind away): it was so downgraded it became awful. Too bad because it is the only version that has been translated... Why Namco, Why?!)
psp has an add-on keyboard instead for those who find it hard to type. nds won with it's interactive feature that can cater to a wider range of people but psp still sells because of the hardcore games that they have as well as the remake classics. psp would benefit if it added a stylus but they should concentrate more on making better games.
That game looks soo much fun. Must have. Oh and sure, let's give the PSP a stylus, copy the big N again. Maybe we can ask the Chinese to do it @.@
I think psp better off as a RPG gaming device sice it got good graphic cards...I really want Legend of heroes VI SC for psp!!!!...but no access to buy it...
I don't know if this game actually exist but this is definately an eroge...or just some crazy homebrew...not sure if I would want to play this aat public with volume at full blast..... http://image.blog.livedoor.jp/blog_ch/imgs/4/b/4b8d3922.jpg
I really love the NDS not because of the stylus or touch screen but because of the games on it like the Castlevania series, Pheonix Wright Ace Attorney series, and for the first 6 months when I got the NDS, it was Animal Crossing! Only got a PSP when they came out with the slim version and totally play different style of games on that like DJ Max Portable, Gitaroo Man Lives, LocoRoco, and Tekken. Interesting though, I got Castlevania X on it but totally can't get into it (even though I loved the original PC Engine / Duo version). I'm hoping to get Crisis Core next.
Awww, the video's not there now.... I wanted to see... :goes off to hunt for it:
Official trailer found at GameSpot.
I haven't tried the first one, but it seems like a pretty nice game idea. And, in my opinion the PSP isn't half as good as the DS (I sold my PSP). I just love the whole 2 screen, touchscreen and games.
oh my god, they made another one?!
I owned a PSP a year ago but sold it as I liked the DS games more. I also just collected the Gundam 00 game for the DS today
I'm sure other game blogs that talks about this will have the comments bombarded with an outcry of moralfags (BAAWWWW you can't do that in teh vidya gaem) and Internet tough guys (shit sux. only faggots will play this game).
If PSP had the T9 text recognition as they have on most cell phones, then typing would be much much easier to implement! who needs a touchscreen? lol...
NDS wind PSP in terms of interactivity but PSP has better graphics... I guess it depends on the person, do you want better graphics or use the stylus to touch girls?
Have both systems, but it just seems to me that for RPG's PSP> DS. Don't get me wrong I still do play both, but I wish the DS came out with some more RPGs.
Wow this game looks so cool. Looks like those doujin eroge on PC. =D Too bad I don't have NDS
Had planned to get either PSP or NDS... But everytime I got some extra money, they mysteriously vanish and turned out to something else... :3
First post here. ^^; Anyway some moons ago i spotted a proof of concept using laser pointer to control the psp on youtube. Think its a really cool idea, if only they can also make games out of this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOM9e3kp4I0 If only the console makers can stop treating homebrewers like pirates maybe someday we might get to play it =P
I sold my PSP last year because there weren't any good games for it at the time. I used it mainly to watch videos, so I used the money I got from it to buy an Archos video player (and then the iPod Touch was announced a few months later and ended up never using the $400 Archos after getting the sexier, more battery life-having and overall better designed Touch), and now I'm kicking myself because the PSP started, maybe 2 or 3 months after I sold it, to pick up steam, game-wise. I <3 my DS more than anything, though. I prize innovation over graphics for the most part, plus I love 2-D and retro-looking things with modern play mechanics. Oh yeah, and the PSP's battery life was ass.
