I don't want to laugh about this and don't find it funny at all... However a double-edged sword would work better, as an axe can be heavy and has a really limited blade (all is in the swing).

I think they should go for throwing knives, they're lightweight, they hurt and you can use them on distance, a sword would probaly be better but kinda heavy for school girls :0

An axe is an awful defensive weapon - too heavy and cumbersome. You'd be better off with a collapsible baton or something similar you can carry around and deploy quickly.

Regrettably, fire isn't terribly effective against zombies, since severing or destroying the head is the only method of incapacitation. Lighting them on fire is only useful if a large number of them are contained in a relatively small area, or to dispose of the already incapacitated bodies.

While an axe can be unwieldy, it nevertheless remains one of the all-around best anti-zombie weapons: easy to come by, heavily damaging, requires little skill, and doubles as a survival tool.

What about the shotgun? They always feature it as some kinda godsend in zombie-killing games.

A shotgun is indeed an excellent weapon since it can do a great deal of damage, especially at closer range, without the need for great accuracy. It's also a very common weapon (in the States, anyhow), and ammunition is likewise relatively easily found, since it's often used for game hunting.

Additionally, since most shotguns are semi-automatic, they help prevent those battling the undead from falling victim to the rapid-fire fallacy, instead encouraging a methodical, one-shot-at-a-time approach.

The downsides include considerable recoil and reload time. Additionally, shotguns are of little use at long range, and thus cannot be used to dispatch a zombie without first getting pretty close.

flamethrower's no good, you'd just get a herd of walking burning zombies. that'll do more damage to you. a shotgun is nice as it does spread damage. but still, nothing beats a gatling gun with a rocket launcher attached.

Indeed, flames have precisely the downside you mention.

Automatic weapons of any kind, however, and heavy ballistics, are of little use against the undead unless one happens to be conveniently occupying a military stronghold. Heavy weapons are, simply, too heavy to be used effectively by small bands of survivors, and likewise their ammunition is overly bulky. Moreover such weapons are simply not easy to find, and require expert knowledge to properly use and maintain.

As for automatics, they may easily prove the downfall of their users in the event of a zombie apocalypse. The temptation to carelessly fire many bullets, rather than use precision to place a single shot to the head of each zombie in turn, risks not only wasteful use of ammunition, but more gravely loss of calm. Loosing one's cool and letting it rip is one of the surest ways to lose an engagement against any number of undead, and indeed, to end up joining them.

Semi-automatic small arms and sturdy melee weapons are always to be preferred to big guns and rapid fire.

I don't think its a feasible weapon for self defense since and axe is quite heavy and where would you find one in the middle of the city unless its one that you find on buses or in public buildings which have axes that firemen use in case of a fire emergency. Then again if u use it for self defense u'll probably kill the prepatrator.

actually i don't see a need for instructions/steps on how to use an axe. isn't it just point and slash? ('~')

It's not how to defend, but how to kill someone >.<...

This reminds me of School Days and Higurashi no Nakukoro ni.

Girls, just use stuntgun, you were made not to use violence.

How many stray axes are lying around in Japan? Are there so many that any girl in danger can simply find one lying around?

Also, who doesn't know the "Slice Head Off" attack with any weapon? ;)

What ever happened to pulling out your concealed glock or sig? while regular sings work well, I'd prefer to use a berserker stance of cutting my own flesh superficially so i'm bloodied-up with that crazy look in your eyes, smoking and exhaling jet streams of smoke out of your nose like Brock Sampson ready to kill someone while dragging the across the ground in front of your muttering something about how you're going to hunt down their family as well. Or a pistol would work since I'm not Brock Sampson.
