Bed in Ceiling

Bed in Ceiling
Member DRAGUN reports on a bed that retracts to the ceiling thus saving a lot of space when not in use.

Me was thinking that it could be possible to hide a Candy Girl up there...

Imagine after failing to satisfy your partner, she gets off the bed, presses a button and sends the bed up with you on it. After you're stuck, she says "You stay there and reflect on it for the rest of the day!!" and stomps out the room with your credit card. *shivers* No I don't want this bed ever! Its sure is an interesting concept though, but I think a sofa bed would be more practical (and also alot more sturdy ^^).

Actually, that was the first thing I thought. Even if the bed is cool and kind of useful, it's just to dangerous :P

I mean, if a thief gets into your house while yer sleeping, all he have to do is press a button and you won't be able to do anything >__< And since your up there, it's possible that no one finds you for a very long time >__<

I am sure if there is a motor, it wouldn't be designed to be able to lift a person. Not sure about children. I am sure they would have some kind of safety mechanism though.

What I can't figure out is where those supports to the ceiling and floor came from. The ceiling ones might've just extended straight up - waste of space, but possible. But where the heck did that L-shaped piece of wood touching the floor come from? I can't see it anywhere in the "before" picture.

Probably roughly attached after its already down. There are screws connecting them into the bed, so it's not likely that they came pre-attached as you would hit your head on them when walking by while its up.
But as to where they are, no idea

That sounds right, I guess - the roughly attached thing. The whole appeal of a bed goes down though, when you can't immediately throw yourself into it after a long day.

Not as practical as it claims as the area underneath still needs to be clear so you can get on and off the bed safely, but if you have foldable tables and whatnot, it could be really good!

Push on a button and the floor would open and your bed be magically hovering... That would be extraordinary.
Just don't stand on your bed when it returns underground, otherwise you'd end with a bad surprise:
"Oh, no! It's a TRAP!" A regular trap, though. Don't get me wrong. ^^;

I'm seeing a lot of comments about how this could be dangerous and such but really, no one would build something like this without a lot of features built in, fail safes, braking systems, spring loaded everything. I think it *could* be very safe and convenient... just don't know about this model because I can't read French on the main site :(.

Not at all. :p I'm just saying that since I can't read what features and such it has I can't say whether or not, in my opinion, the bed is safe. If I were to design one of these I would create redundant fail safe systems and it would be hydraulically controlled with fail safes for hydraulic failure, leakage, etc.

Along with that office in a box, container home, bedroom in a box, smallest living space in a box and some other stuff I've seen... one could eventually live... in a box.

But all those are still lacking the cuteness of that flash video with a kitten in a box.

Interesting take on the Murphy Bed concept... though if you're going to hid a Candy Girl in there you might want the one over at Apartment Therapy/Unpluggd with the fake ceiling around it.

As for practicality, I don't think it's a problem. It really doesn't take much effort to make you bed as soon as you get out, and rolling it up into the roof would be the work of seconds.

That said: it might be a bit difficult after a night on the town and probably not really that crash hot for renters eitehr.
