Two lovely suddenly acquired huge posters of the Goshusho-sama Ninomiya-kun girls Reika and Mayu - going up in the office. But currently have a dilemma - how to put them up.
When I was in the UK, I used Blu-Tac for sticking up posters and know that through experience, oil from the Blu Tac seeps through to the poster leaving nasty marks.
I could use pins but the weight of the poster would cause sagging - unless I want to put a ton of pins which I don't.
There must be a clever way to stick up posters without too much damage to the poster - any ideas?
Oh, and thanks to Neil at Columbia Japan for the posters ^o^

what i always did with poster's is put a strip of a nice thick tape on the back side on the top, and then i used that as support when i put in the pins, with the tape there i can pull tight so it doesn't sag.

Doesn't oil from the tape over time seep through?
Registered on 2007/10/21 13:01
i've never had a problem with that, i have a poster here that's about 2 years old, and it looks fine. i guess it depends on the type of tape you have, i personally have loved 3M brand tape, but i can't garrenty that that's what i have on this poster

If you use an "archival" (acid free, etc.) tape, you should be fine. It is designed for doing this sort of thing, so..
Nice posters ^^

oh and, Lucky you, i would love those poster's in my room

If you dont mind the cost, you could laminate them, the stain from the blu tac can be easily wiped off.

that would require a huge laminater ^^;

no need for that...
just use a plastic sheet, a big one then use one of those battery powered bag sealers to seal the posters in the bag...
then use the blu-tac to get the job done...
ok this takes up a bit of time but for the posters you love, time and care is important...

When all else fails, nothing beats a good old frame. A plain plastic one, without borders, does nicely to make a poster stand out a bit from the wall, as well as save it from tacks and the like.

I'd agree on framing.
The only downisde is, sometimes there isn't pre-made frames that'll fit certain poster sizes.

I agree with framing. I do it myself and things have turned out well.

Had the same problems when wanting to put up posters but not wanting to use Blu-Tac. Eventually I looked around and found Scotch's Clear Mounting Squares which are removable.
So far haven't damaged any of my posters when removing the squares, though on some wall surface it might damage the paintwork (still covered by the posters so not much damage done for me), or it was the fact that my walls were newly painted (about 2 days old) when I did that.
Btw it also doesn't leave any sticky residue. Am still using them to great effect. Might be worth a try, or you can laminate them that's the best way still.

Two paper pegs on the top corners, linked by a nilon thread and one pin on the wall. よし!

Something that I've done before is use one of those black squeeze clips (I don't know what they're called. From the side looks like a black triangle tube, with two silver handles that can be folded up to open the clip or down so that it's not poking anywhere).
Basically clip one on each of the top corners, and hang the handles on push pins. Might be a little unsightly, but it worked for me. You *might* get some creasing where the clip clamps onto the poster though since they clamp pretty tight.

Thought of that too - will need some sort of metal plate on the wall.

an alternative to have a metal wall.
1. find flat-head metal thumbtac
2. push those tac into the wall (ouch!)
3. use magnet to sandwich poster to flat metal tacs

btw, if you are planning to give those SAPS away, i will happily accept them. all the way for mayu-chan

have them framed i do that with my posters
Registered on 2007/11/19 18:34
yeah laminating's good because you get to protect the poster from future wear and tear too...
or you could put "contact" (the stuff you use to cover books, clear plastic, sticky on one side) on the corners and blu tack on the corners. I used to do that with newspaper posters. It just depends how little you are willing to change the poster and how long you want to keep it.

The poster would actucally mean something to me if I liked the anime show. But I didn't. Never the less I wouldn't stick them on my wall because of it.

I usually stick them with a blu-tack, unless it's something that I really wanted to preserve ^^;
Other way is to just use 2 clippers, clipped them on the poster, tied a string or 2 and just hang it on the wall ^^; So it'll be like a wallscroll, if you seen one before ^^

Maybe you should try using something like these Danny (paper clamps):
http://www.geocities.com/budb3/tpic/toolh/clmpspgh.jpg
I think you can find colored and less ugly ones, specially in Japan.
They can hold some weight, but you'd have to use nails or screws to keep them in place, depending on how heavy the posters are.
Anyways, one more Anime for my "someday I'm gonna watch it" list...

I also went through the same dilemma as you Danny, but found a solution at the stationary store here. 3M makes these foamy double-sided tapes called Wall Mounting Tabs that basically don't leave an oily mark that seep through the poster, and are easy to come off, given you're careful when taking them off. See the link for the item

Gorgeous Reika and Mayu WANT.
Well I don't stick up my posters directly with Blu-Tac, unless it's those kinda clear plastic ones. What I do is have them still in their plastic sleeve and stick it up. This way the poster stays undamaged.
Used to directly Blu-Tac them up, and I get destroyed posters after a year(or even just months). Kinda like what's happening to my set of Hayate no Gotoku stick posters. orz

Would love to have those poster^^
I have tried a way to paste it on the wall which is to warp the whole poster with a sheet of plastic so that I can use whatever way to stick it on the wall with the plastic. The plastic can protect the whole poster also^^

Cheap frames. Really the only GOOD solution. All my posters and art work are in cheap ol' Wally world frames.

I used to use these fat metal tacks placed directly on the wall and then use a magnet to hold the poster up. This makes sure there is no tares or oil marks.

Frames would seem like a nice idea.
Far fetch thought: What about getting a nice 40" LCD screen (or a size of your choice) and use it as a photo frame to display Hi-Res scans? ^^;

What we have over here is plastic strips that you can slide the top part of the poster in. On the strip is a wire so you can hang the thing with eg a nail. However, with really big posters (like my A0-sized FMP Tessa) everything starts to sag...

i use UHU tac
it's an Australian brand though
It's exactly the same as regular blu-tac in functionality and form but it is instead manufactured from a yellow compound.
From what i know (the ads), it's been specifically made to prevent that oil-patch left behind from regular blu-tac.
In my 5 years of actively using it for my posters, i've never had an issue with oil marks since and no issues with seeping oil into poster type paper.
i've been able to reuse blobs of the stuff from years ago and works just as well as if it were bought yesterday.

judging from that clip, even if that girl is really cute, that show looks incredibly stupid. Am I wrong? Should I give it another chance?
