AkibaMap reports on GameBank's new shop in Akiba. GameBank has been around for years as an online store and a shady store set up in an apartment but now has a proper store near Sue Hirocho station in Akiba. If you want devices to allow you to play open source games on your Wii, PS3, NDS, 360, PS2, PSP etc etc then this is the place to drop by. Me? My PS2 and Wii has been modded so I can play homebrew games that some long lost relative made... Notice in the photo that they also have a Vii and a MiWi ?! GameBank location here.
My Wii and PSP are modded, however I have to say I'm extremely impressed with the homebrew support for the PSP.

I've got a modded PS2 and Xbox, a PSP with custom firmware and a DS with an R4 Revolution. I've also still got a modded PS1 and Sega Saturn kicking around.
Wow, I am amazed with your gadget preservation skill. I've had several PS1 during my childhood and early teenage hood and all of them had broken down. >_< When I actually want to replay some games, like Suikoden 2 and Xenogears...
If you really miss them that much you could try and find it as a ROM an compatible emulator online. I think there are at least a couple good emulators for PS1.

used to own a modded PS2, firmware-modded PSP , a fat flashed NDS with SuperCart(forgot what it's called) and an NDSL with R4. Sold ALL of them. Never got used to consoles or handhelds. Now focused on PC gaming/eroge instead. XD
My only modded system was XBox. I didn't bother with a PS2 mod, I just bought a Japanese PS2 instead.
my modded consoles are the xbox and the ps2. but my xbox got fried after a year and 5 months later i got it modded. . . couldnt play halo 2 T-T ps2 is fine but its having a hard time loading the game since sometimes the copied cd works and doesnt. but now no worries because i got a xbox360 and now i can play ace combat 6 and armored core 4 ^^ . . . although i will miss some of the old missions that were fun

Hmmm, I thought modding in Japan was strictly prohibited but maybe not? I guess selling homebrew game is only illegal thing to do in Japan?

... I see this stuff all the time in Malaysia.. LOL? Have seen "MiWi" in many places, many times already ^^; Hmm.. Maybe I'll go browse some game shops tomorrow and see how many I can find.. will include my findings in my "Week in Malaysia" post ^^

I've got a PSP with custom firmware, its the only console I have since I don't play to much, and its worthed, playing PS1 games and the homeb are quit good, not only games, as pdf readers(for the famous books) and manga readers (loads a rar or zip file containing images) not to mention the rest, to much stuff.
I knew Akiba would have shops that do this kind of Mod service. Got My PSP modded when I went back home and have a modded PS2 as well.
None of my current Gen consoles (Wii, 360 or PS3) are currently modded. PS3 has, arguably the best protection from modding, the games all run on blu-ray and I don't think many of us are able to afford recordable blu-ray disks and burners!!! Micorsoft bans modified consoles from Xbox live, thus depriving it of the main reason to own one. And the Wii is just archaic! Nintendo region lock their firmwares, the chips don't run all games and, in general, it's a bigger hassle to mod and update than a PSP!!! It's just not worth it. I'm hoping that the fact that the wii was recently hacked properly (previous chips and homebrew used Gamecube tech) will result in a custom firmware or something similar. PSP is hacked and my DS runs R4 tho...

Oops. Question, does modding the wii prevent you from using its online capabilities in any way (i.e. Gaming online, buying VC games)?
i don't own any consoles other than the PSP Slim. yes it's modded. loved it. ^^;
I really can't decide. I never saw the need to mod any of my consoles, but now that I'm stuck with an old Xbox than no one wants, modding it would allow me to play many more games...
My PS2 are equip with 40Gb hardisc and my nds have a R4..sounds good to me..
And people were saying there's no way Japan would have copycats/ modcarts/ chips/ etc... lol Akiba exclusive?
I got a modded Wii but sometimes it seems to have problems with Japanese games...
my ps2 is modded but my wii is not. i also have r4, but mostly unused. my psp slim is also modded, i think.
Hehe, never had the guts to chip something myself... Just sticking with the R4 on my DS and my custom firmware PSP for now.
nearly all my consoles are modded or maxed out with expansions. next will be my psp which is inevitable i guess due to the huge amount of available "stuff".
i have a modded psp too..but doesn't always play it.
im gettin my PSP custom FW when they finish making FW 4.0 and ill unlock all the goodness locked away inside using 4.0-M33. =03
I've had a lil' itch of getting a PSP custom FW but I guess a R4 DS will do me just fine. I'll keep my PSP clean :D
