AKB48

Poor Idol group AKB48 are getting a bad name due to their management company deciding to continue to raep its fans.
They announce on their official blog that if one manages to collect 44 special edition posters then that fan will be invited to some special gig.
The thing is that the posters come with a CD and you dont know what poster is going to come with the CD. One has to collect all 44 unique posters...
Still, I'm sure that the fans who love watching girls dancing around in school uniform will jump at the offer...

The name stands for "Akihabara48"
There are 48 girls and they're split into teams, "A" "K" "B" with 16 girls in each.

If my calculations are correct you would need to buy on average in the 200+ range to get every single one if the chances are perfectly random.

Me thinks this AK47 group must thinks very highly of themselves if they thinks that some noob would buy that many CD's.

it may be a bad idea but if you look at a marketers point-of-view, this a great idea to leech money from their devoted and loyal fans and earn money at the least possible time and at the least possible cost lolz XDDD

I just read about this promotion and it is as ridiculous as it sounds. So you get a poster when you buy the new single but it's completely random and you have to collect 44 of them. Below calculations were done by people from 2ch.

What are the odd of collection all 44 posters?

44/44×43/44×42/44×41/44×……2/44×1/44=super crazy odd

Just so that you get ultra lucky and able to collect all 44 posters at once:

044枚(1 set)→0.000000000000013% 55,000yen

So just to attend this gig, you need at least 55,000yen, which is already super ridiculous price to attend something(normal concert ticket price range from 6000yen to 9000yen).

Using MATLAB's RNG, I calculated that on average you need to buy around 214 CD's to collect them all. Maybe a pokemon fan would be able to collect them all?

Here is the code if someone wants to try it:
z = 48;trials = 1000;A = zeros(trials,z);n = zeros(1,trials);
for t = 1:trials
while (sum(A(t,:)) < z)
x =ceil(rand.*z);n(t) = n(t) + 1;
    for i=1:z
        if x==i
            A(t,i) = 1;
        end;end;end;end;
final = sum(n)./trials
