While Canned Dogs writes about the problems facing the eroge industry, from my perspective, sales seem to be doing well indeed. Take TwoHeart2 thats out tomorrow for example. Softmap are rumored to have 10,000 copies ready for punters who are going to line up at midnight for their copy of the game. Photo via AkibaBlog and thanks to Andrew and Cavalock for sending in the Canned Dogs link. BTW, just added a comment link at the bottom of the comments ^^;
Soo much eroge you can barely get into that shop :D
Eroge na..... Sad i would not be able to make one as my final project...This is England!!! Really cant wait to go Japan and work...but i must have patients ! This reminds me I still have a pile of Eroge havent play! The trade off of having a girlfriend i think...
Eroge or girlfriend? Which do you want more? Luck I don't have to deal with that ;P
Play eroge with your GF? No, forget it.
lol, why not that sounds fun
why not? it will most probably result in this http://kurogane.animeblogger.net/2007/11/04/exploring-magic-in-otaku-love-lives/ whish is definitely good.
The trade off of having a girlfriend is to have less private time == less eroge time. She is fine and does play eroge together with me because she finds the scenario interesting. Is just i dont want to play eroge in front of her.
Too much eroge. It's hard to even decide on which to get. To Heart is one of the eroge I would get. A shop with eroge goods will take forever for me to pick out which to get...
indeed, we might as well just live in the shop for life.
I like the guy's suspicious looking outfit. XD Yeah, I read about that too... but they'll eventually find a solution. Game industry in general works this way... if the "independent" eroges are beginning to represent a treat, or significant competiton to big names, they'll just have to find a way to make the more professional eroges more attractive. A good start would be innovating the whole business. I don't even like eroges... mainly because I don't like to mix ero with games much. But mainly because I don't have the pacience to play them. But I did check some of them, and the problem to me is: They all look the same. At least the playability part. Anyways, I'm sorry for big erogames producers, but I particularly find interesting when the independent stuff starts competing with big names... this means we'll get more quality stuff and more people trying to improve things.
It's not really about "independent eroge companies vs big eroge companies". It's about how most eroge companies choose to shaft their writers in order to reduce employment costs and, in turn, have their product quality suffer from such a move. With bad product quality, people obviously won't buy their stuff, leading to losses. Most big companies usually choose to retain their staff, but others don't in exchange for saving up money and cutting costs. Hence the whole condition that the eroge industry is in now. Coupled with the fact that most of the needed talent necessary to create a winning eroge is now interested in a different market - the doujin market. This is because the doujin market is quite a tempting one - most writers who have started out with eroge have gone on to publish doujin material, which is less riskier than corporate-affiliated stuff, they don't have to spend much on stuff like advertising and marketing, plus they can earn enough to support themselves. So you can say that it's a mix of bad business decisions coupled with having to face a growing market that's quite tempting, which is causing the slump in the eroge industry.
what is so great about eroge?
Interaction and multiple endings. . You get to choose which girls you want to end up with, and sometimes the choices are very enticing and controversial, indeed, such as step-mother or step-sister (Kana Little Sister is a good example) and which-girls-do-you-want-to-rape (Virgin Roster). Few eroges have also been made anime due to their excellent quality of storyline, such as Fate/Stay Night, Tsukihime, To Heart, etc.
I think every industry has its up and down to balance. IMO eroge industry is focusing on quality other than quantity. It is now the play between big companies, small companies are being absorbed.
...What is eroge anyway?... I tried to play Fortune Arterial for few days and all they do is talk... Otakus please explain before I will go Insane!
PROTIP: why don't you actually TRY to search for it yourself? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eroge
People who already played ToHeart2 is angry that there are no ero scenes with long-waited Haruka lol.
tons of decent looking eroges releasing on 29th Feb. t*rrenting TH2AD now. XD
I don't know, eroges are pretty boring sometimes, so much text to wallow through, it's easier just to watch a hentai. Some are ok, but it really depends on the art. Also, all the best ones are in Japanese without translations, the translated American ones are really old.
Actually, I find myself playing my current eroge for the storyline instead of the ero scenes. It feels a bit like the ero scenes are just a "plus" to a visual novel.
Woots! Eroge!
the eroge industry might be hanging by the thread but it looks like that they're still hanging on and doing well i might add ^^ and if your GF is an otaku and is game in playing eroge with you then you win the internet!!!
Well I'm a gal who likes eroge. Whether or not I'd wanna play them next to a boy who's getting off to them I'm not sure lol. Love Eroge though. I play them more for the story. I just put up with the ero scenes really.
It's pretty unbelievable for eroge to be facing sale problems. At least, not for the next few decades.
I wish I coulda been there... I really-really-really want ToHeart2 Another Days.... Just so I can have it... I know I can't read it... but I want it sooo bad... which sites can I buy it from?
