The divx high quality video sharing comminity Stage6 is to shutdown forever tomorrow on the 28th. Main reason being the cost of running the site was too high. I never used the service myself as the divx plugin never worked for me. Even though the YouTube quality is crap, it works and gets the message across. Another site just as popular as Stage6 is Crunchy Roll - seems to have a load of goodies at but with low quality sound. What other video community sites do you use?
Yeah... pitty though. I also could never make the DivX plugin work... but if it did, would be a nice place to share videos. Better luck next time. Maybe a XviD portal... or MKV, OGM, or something.
Ahh no way!! I use to use that site all the time when I was looking for high quality videos / movies! Could they not have just put a few more ads on there to help support it? I don't know of any other streaming HD quality sites out there, if there are any? YouTube is quick and fast but not for watching lengthy movies I don't think.
Another reason they are shutting down : They got hacked by some guy, me and my friends went into the site about last week or two weeks ago and everytime you went on it, an image appeared of a guy spreading his... butthole and I forgot what the text said because we exited it out as fast as we could. I'm not joking, this happened to two other friends of mine, and we think the site got ruined and hacked.
Ohhhhhh... You got Goatse'd. Bad luck my friend. Bet that one got stuck in your eyeballs for a few days, heh?
I used to use Veoh until they upgraded the little downloading thing ther used to use to some lame thing now. It's more hassle and the videos aren't in their original format anymore (from what I hear).
I remember that moment when Veoh had that external player obsession going with the five minute limit. Thankfully, that was short-lived.
I usually use crunchyroll to watch older anime. The sound is agreeably bad, but is useful since older anime usually has few/no seeders (and my crappy internet speed doesn't help either). Don't know much about Stage6, but am wondering if this will affect the fansub community.. will it?
divx plugin don't work for me as well. :-(
I love Stage6, I'm sad to see it go.
Stage6's departure isn't going to change my habits any. I liked the site. Sure, my computer's not up to snuff enough to handle the high quality as well as it should, nature of the beast (and a lack of proper fundage). All the same, I hardly used the site. - YouTube is my #1 place with Veoh at #2.
regarding anime, as fansubbers keeps on reiterating, support fansubbers rather than streaming sites who uses their work and earns donations from it. subbers are the ones who really worked hard for it.
I never really used stage6 because it loaded too slowly for me. It's sad to see it go though.
I watched old hong kong movies on crunchyroll. It's audio and video quality are not that great but it's a great place to look for movies you watched when you were little.
yeah, i was really upset when i read this news yesterday. it is a great website to download some jdramas and animes from, with quality that cannot be matched by any (as far as i know) free video website. veoh is pretty good, and has more stuff, but the quality is significantly less. Ah~ (TT_TT)
The DivX player worked for me. I nearly never used the site but it did support high quality files. MegaVideo.com is decent, but the only feature that really makes it so is because after you register for free, you could download the original file. A lot of them were .FLV's because they were jacked from YouTube though. You can upload big files, although I'm not sure how much it is compressed after the upload. I've glanced over Veoh and it has high quality content capability.
DivX always worked for me. Now what will happen if I want to take a look at Still Alive credits again? :(
Hate CrunchyRoll. YouTube and Nico Nico is acceptable. Currently trying out Vimeo and Hulu, but nothing's quite as good as Stage6 is/was in terms of higher quality videos.
I've heard quite a number of people mention that they hate crunchyroll.. I wonder why? ^^; It's useful for watching older anime/drama, though most of the crunchyroll users are.. noobs. New anime should be downloaded though.. Abundant seeders=DO NOT STREAM.
Singaporeans can't use any torrents though. The evil xedO Empire is breathing down our necks :X Their campaign to increase the number of buyers hasn't ceased at all, despite all the recent turmoil.
Despite that evil xedO empire's evil campaign to fulfill their evil ambition, last time I used utorrent to download anime, I saw some brave Singaporeans peers happily downloading the file. . Perhaps there is a way to conceal P2P file sharing activity or were they just brave?
I concur. Why is it that only Nartuo, Bleach, One Piece, DBZ, and Inuyasha are the only things I found in the mindset of many Crunchyroll users? Also, people there are newfag slowpokes: videos that has been uploaded centuries ago on Youtube often made it to Crunchyroll as "OMFG OMFG SUM COOL NEW VIDYEO FROM JAPAN THAT AH FOUNDS!!!1111". Sorry if I offended anyone, but this is based on my personal experience.
Stage6 is arguably the BEST video site, if only for the quality and the download service. Only problem was the crappy search feature, which wasn't very accurate. I'm really sad to see it go...I'd rather that it stayed, but unless a miracle happens, I don't see that becoming a reality. Oh, and fansub stuff are only one of its attractions. I'm more interested in funky stuff like eroge OPs, music videos, gameplay videos, and whatnot. Youtube and crunchyroll's quality sucks in comparison. Sure Stage6's loads slower (due to size), but you can't truly pipe YT and CR's videos into your TV (like I do. XD)
This makes me sad. :( They were an excellent source for HD quality videos. They had tons of video captures of Crysis that looked really shiny. ^_^
Don't really watch video on websites, I always download the .avi or .mkv versions of an anime at 704 x 396 or 1280 x 720 resolutions.
This makes me cry I love Stage6.
I was heartbroken when I saw that stage 6 was closing down. That site was amazing, it had HD quality movies with youtube speeds. Plus it had a ton of anime on it. I am really sad to see it go.
kind of sad to see it go when i receive the email :(
I usually use the good 'ol Youtube. 8)
i've used Stage6 before but not frequently ^^;;;; i use good 'ol Youtube ^^
I never used it because I have to go out of my way to install a plugin. With Youtube I already have flash installed or on linux I install it anyway for the other things you use flash for.
Another good place I go to is Veoh so I don't use Stage6 unless the video I really really want to watch is on stage6. Good quality videos, better then whats on youtube at least.
I was so sad when I read the news earlier today. Stage 6 is one of the best place to watch just about anything. *sigh* Well at least there's still Crunchyroll and Veoh.
Most people still used youtube but if you found a 1080p or 1080i vid on the divx site you would be blown away, full screen is SO amazing. I don't understand how you can go back to youtube after having seen divx :(, I'll have to though. I've been downloading a ton of divx vids in the past 2 days, goyta get them before it shuts down :p.
veoh.com they downgrade video quality for preview, but u can download video files with uploaded quality, so imo its really nice service and for japanese community of course nicovideo.jp i often heard that some people prefer to use nicovideo than youtube since u can add on the fly comments, and i found myself viewing more nicovideo rather than youtube nowadays
Divx loads really slowly on my com...
That makes me sad, I watched a ton of anime on stage 6 because I don't like torrents and now they just shut it down... R.I.P. Stage 6, I won't forget about you :/
Holy cr@p! There goes any chance of my supply of high-graphics-quality anime! *sob* Compared to Youtube and Veoh, Stage6's video quality is amongst the gods, if you don't mind the long loading time.
I usually watch my videos in crunchy roll and veoh and I don't use stage6 as the main place to watch animes but I do use it sometimes. So , I don't really feel that sad but I will remember stage6 as long as I can...
Well, right now I use CrunchyRoll and MegaVideo for the US-lincensed series that have been taken off CRoll. Watching Seed Destiny on Megavideo as I type this message actually.
I usually download all my anime from irc or direct download. HDD space becomes a problem after a while XD
gonna cry :(
WHAT?@! Can't believe NO ONE had named any MUST HAVE videos to grab before Stage6 goes down!! Here's one ~ Ebihara Yuri's Anessa CM - http://www.stage6.com/user/songbay/video/1191798/ANESSA Excellent choice for testing the colors on your monitor! ;)
I definitely think Veoh is one of the better streaming services out there. You have to download their client, which I disliked at first, but it really isn't that bad. They provide search results from Veoh, Google, and Sponsors. I haven't used some of their other features, but it's all-in-all pretty solid. If you want to download HQ videos, I'm pretty sure everyone uses torrents for that anyway.
i'm gonna miss this site. 9 times outta 10 i prefer to use it than youtube.
really is a bad news.... i like this site, although it very the slow, but the quality was really good. hopefully have other site like stage6 to open in the future...
Noooo!
I took a look at their stocks profile on NASDAQ. They have been steadily declining in value for the past three months. Not by a large amount though.
Gone but not forgoten, Stage6. It was great except that the site kept freezing on me at the start and end of the videos. I somethimes use dailymotion.com and youtube, on ocassions I use veoh.
oh man i remember seeing this.... and it hurt because i was able to sample a lot of anime and j-dramas i normally wouldn't even think about downloading; like akihabara@deep or sexy voice and robo not to mention all the super-crazy high quality videos for games and other things.. with that said, does anyone know any video sites that have awesome video quality like stage6 and will even allow you to download the videos?
I've always hearted BT, streaming sites never do it for me. I'm one of those people that if I like a series and find an HD/better quality version later on like Boxtorrents or something, I'll redownload it. I've actually reDL'd like 25 some odd gigs sometimes, I think it was 2 Gundam series or something.
