Why Me

(Otaku(38)
Sat 2008/02/23 08:43
A Toshiba HD DVD fan (with an XBOX 360 (which is HD DVD)) asks himself "why me?"
When Toshiba announced that they are leaving the market, the Japanese media went around the streets to get comments from gutted people who just bought a HD DVD player...
A salesman in the clip below says that people who are still buying the HD DVD players are hard core Toshiba fans.

I'm actually quite glad that Blu-Ray came up top. If HD DVD were to somehow beat Blu-Ray, I don't really know what I'd do... Blu-Ray is just better all around, too.

seriously though it pays to observe the market and wait for the hype to die off before making a choice.

I couldn't understand what they were saying, but I would guess they dropped the price. Maybe some people didn't know HD-DVD died or they just want a player to play 1080p for cheaper.

This why I never make impulsive purchases, too risky, especially on new technology such as this one...
I tend to wait for years to get a good deal. ^^

I am quite happy that this format war is over. The sooner it ended, the sooner we'd see far more support from the anime industry on the winning format. And the fact that BD is the winner, is only the icing on the cake for me, because I own a ps3. Watching Utawarerumono on BD is a thing a beauty.

I haven't seen it on BD myself, but I heard that Air on BD is just an up-convert from 480p. As in, not a true HD master. There are other series though, that do feature true HD masters on BD. Utawarerumono is one (and again, it looks phenomenal), as well as movies like Paprika.

Why Me?
1. You were too impatient to wait for one format to take a decisive lead.
2. You were too moronic to realize that the PS3 would make a difference in the format war.
3. Because you supported microsoft
4. Because you supported a lousy company like toshiba that doesn't support its customers or products.
5. Because you screwed up.

Coincidently, I received my 5 free blu ray movies today from my PS3 purchase. Wonder if they'll cancel the promotion now that the format war is over.

phew, that was close, I almost bought the hd dvd addon for 360. glad I waited. btw Danny, 360 uses dvds, not hd dvds. In order to play hd dvds you have to buy the addon and then it only plays movies.

I think there is some kind of universal justice in all of this. Like karma or something. Sony lost out to VHS in the previous generation of media format, so now they get to shine for a while. Honestly though, I think Sony was spot on marketing combining PS3 and Blueray player. That is most likely the straw that broke the camal's back.

I like HD DVD more because from what I read, there's not so much protection like the bluray...

but then, I'm glad the 'war' is over

Well, now people have to actually start buying Blu-Ray movies other than the hardcore fans and everyone else has to stop buying DVD's.

Most people knew it was an uphill battle for HD DVD from the beginning but guess some weren't patient enough for the "war" to be over.
