I love the iPod and I wouldn't mind owning a iTouch or iPhone if they weren't so costly but I'll be damned if Apple products don't cost too much money. I can't see how a ****ing wheel helps you type stuff faster.

unfortunately, I don't think it'll ever work cause I can see journalists and those who write philosophical texts will ever want it done intuitively haha

and besides, ever wondered why the same concept employed by nokia on one of their fashion phones never worked?

cause it was way too cumbersome wheeling letters :P

All apple prices are worldwide the same unless you're lucky that the currency has dropped in your favor the difference will not be more than a 100 bucks or so

Belive me, they are NOT the same. Putting aside currency exchange rate, when MBA debuted in USA, it cost almost twice as much in Apple resellers than imported directly from USA (in Poland of course).

Might as well throw in an Easy Bake Oven.

That guy said it " We'd like to give customers features, they don't even realize"

And 45 minutes to type an e-mail? That sounds like no one should be wasteful with their money unless they are a mac fan-boy.

Or maybe Danny should have posted this on April 1st. Because "The Onion" is a satire. ^^;;

Besides, I heard that Jobs wants to have Apple make the iBake. It would be a small oven that keeps your HD cool while you make brownies, cupcakes, and whatever else you would normally make with an Easy Bake Oven. X3

Agree and how in the hell that guy want to send an email if the battery life is just 19 minutes. The battery must like a UPS for the laptop. Just enough time to save important document. I guest that, one must have like 2~3 spare battery and that is not much mobility for a laptop. I will stick with the keyboard.

Very nice marketing strategy they have. This is simply comedy at its best.

"Nothings simpler than a single giant button."
"Everything is just a few hundred clicks away."
"To reduce energy use, screen goes black after 4 seconds."
"People who use keyboards, standing in the way of human progress."
"The MacBook is virtually unbreakable unless dropped or hit."

Can someone tell me why making it harder to write is better? I can't seem to grasp the use of having "One" button, only to make it slower to type. Why use this when there is the keyboard, with which you can spend some time training and will be able to type a lot faster than if you master this "wheel".

Love the Onion. Good spoof. How about this for keyboardless...What about a touch-sensitive surface where the user starts typing while an adaptive algorithm analyzes the initial typing pattern and maps the rest of a virtual keyboard based on the analysis? Can you say simpler than the wheel, more forgiving of typos, and accessibility for the blind? Any idea if anyone is working on something like that? Well, not really keyboardless. Maybe a brain-implant would be nice...

It's real though it's disappointing for me. Though I don't use Mac notebooks, the keyboard legacy is very disappointing. Now you pick the items and characters slowly than before. More time spending on finding the characters that we wanted to input. Keyboard FTW. :D

ROFLMFAO!!! This is freakin' hilarious!!! I used to read the Onion very frequently. Once I was reading The Onion while riding on the subway here in Chicago. I was laughing so hard that I was turning red and had tears streaming down my face. "I probably look crazy," I thought-- then I noticed someone sitting in the same seat as me, but at the opposite end of the train car. He was also laughing uncontrollably but he wasn't reading anything-- it was just his dementia. Then I thought, "Uh oh...!" heh!!

Yeah, my productivity in Word and Excel is definitely going to be better with the Wheel instead of a keyboard
/sarcasm off
Before I watched the video I thought that they would go the voice recognition route with the wheel,
but clicking one letter at a time? It is worst that texting on a mobile phone (without a qwerty kb)
I just don't see normal people buying this except for the Apple fan boy/girl.

my first thought:

They put an Ipod wheel on a laptop this time.............

this make typing super slow..........

Airbook form factor, SSD, nonethe less the price!!!

Then I came to notice in the end............... "The MacBook Wheel isn't real by the way it's a joke."

Now I think, will Apple ever had thought of this "unproductive" idea, typing is way faster than scrolling word to word......

Very good job from Onion (I love the movie Onion News), I wonder how much time they spent on making these visual..........

I agree, I'm not anti-Mac or PC, I just don't have the money to spend on Apples overpriced tiny notebooks and endless amounts of Ipods.

I do like the "I'll buy anything new or shiny from Apple" because i know people like that. Why buy an Iphone, Ipod, and 3 different Mac laptops??? Because they just came out that why!

What really bugs me is when someone latches onto PC or MAC and just bashes the other while endlessly praising the one they support. It is like listening to a bunch of country yokels arguing over whether Ford or Chevy is better.

Hahahaha if this wasn't on the news I'd say it would be an April joke but coming from Apple it doesn't surprise me. No keyboard?!?!?! People use the wheel to choose the letter?!?!?! That will take like forever to write a text, we just saw the guy needed 45 min to type an email something we do in seconds with a keyboard. But the real question remained and that was where Andrea Bennett (journalist) hit the hot spot, will the business world will actual work with a computer instead of clicking or playing around.

The future of computers is not a wheel that will substitute the keyboard but instead it'll be keyboards with no buttons.

Wanna know when? Try the moment the companies were not bias and put the same games for both Mac and PC. Then again, I go way back to the Commodore 64 days, as well as the days I had to make text-based games for a class.

So even then, before there was Mac, Apple had games worth playing.

Then again, xyanide, I could as easily asked you when will Microsoft put out a version of Windows that is worth using. So consider that. ;)

This was a hilarious ruse. All those little details and pokes at Apple make it priceless...and likely fooled a fair number of people.

To some of the people above, though: I'm both a Mac and PC user, but neither of that matters here. It's a funny satirical joke.

lol major stupidity a wheel in place of a keyboard .....i mean just writing what i just wrote right her on that would take more than 40 minutes and the battery would go dead 19 minutes into writing it lol.....really what i want is to remove the keyboard and the body and pretty much remove the whole laptop and put it in a hand held that has all the option as the regular laptop have it the size of the cd drive but it will be twice as big so you have the usb support and make it run off of sunlight ^^ now in stead of the screen make it a hologram touch screen, hd say 3200 x 2100 minimum to 800 x 600 ^^ now that would be something i would love ^^

Whoa…this is definitely revolutionary but I’m not sure if it’ll catch on. Ditching the keyboard could be a great space saver and make for ultra light portable laptops but I’m not sure the additional “100 clicks” is worth the loss of a laptops primary source of input (the trusty keyboard). The keyboard is tried and tested and I dont think its time to lose it. Like another poster mentioned, maybe its best to introduce a smaller “Wheel” alongside the regular keyboard and break us all in gently.
