PS3 XBOX 360 Game Prices

PS3 XBOX 360 Game Prices
Darn - I got done by amazon paying about 6,000 yen for my Devil May Cry 4 for the PS3.
This store is selling it for 4,800 yen but they are also selling DMC4 for the XBOX 360 for 3,000 yen. Same game but why the price difference? Are 360 games cheaper in general?
Via Byonavi.
OP for DMC4 Below - tis an awesome game.

Next-gen games are most likely not backward-compatible with platforms. There is no point to do a product for an older platform when a newer one is available, especially since PS3 has been around for some time. The PS3 will be basing its sales on the games it has anyway, and DMC4 is one of the more famous ones.

It's not coming to the PS2, but it's definitely coming for the PC soon.

hmm~ is it because PS3 use a higher quality blu -ray while Xbox360 use HD DVD(which soon will be extinct).
Or is it because of Law of Demand...Demand Higher, Price Higher, vice versa...
Anyway, havent get my Ps3 yet because waiting for FF13...(maybe they will come out a limited FF13 version PS3 and I will be buying one of those)

The 360 only uses DVDs for games. There is no internal HD-DVD drive, and the external ad-on only plays HD-DVD movies.

The reason for the price difference is probably because the 360 is relatively unpopular in Japan, so lower prices are needed to boost sales.

EdZ seems to hold the right answer... Production costs may have been lower or it is due to the following logic:
Step 1: Put a rather low price on a bunch of relatively good games for a console (either old or unpopular);
Step 2: Hope that there will be owners of the console who can't decide if to spend money on games for their console or that people will buy the console for that game.
Step 3: In the latter case of step 2, entice the customer into buying more games for his/her new bought console.

This is how it would work. ^^

Eh maybe the games in the picture are used?? Here in the states though 360 games and PS3 games cost the same exact amount $60.00 for a new game. I don't see why it would be different anywhere else.

Because its probably the only way to get 360 games to sell in Japan. Im guessing small profit is better than no profit.

Here in Portugal, we get PIMPED big time.

SCE games go for 65€ (and remember the Euro is worth more than the US Dollar right now), and 75€ (X_X) for third-party games.

X-Box 360 games usually go for around 60€.

Right now, I'm only buying my games online! In most stores I can get some 50€ deals in recent games and the shipping cost doesn't really make it all that more expensive.

Oh, and after checking a currency conversion: 4800yen = 30€.
For a brand-new, just-came-out, PS3 game. Japanese guys are just too damn lucky.

It doesn't matter if the € is stronger than the $ cause that only counts if you're buying in the States it doesn't mean that we're paying more it's just how markets work. Imagine that a game would come out now at $50 then we would be buying the game at 34€, what would happen if the $ would get more expensive then what? From the first 34€ the game would raise its price to 40€? For things like this don't happen they put the same price to everyone $50 there 50€ here

CrazyAnimeTuga from when market don't care about currences? And why it prices aren't like 50JPY in Japan or 50GBP in Great Britain?

1kg of lead isn't worth 1kg of gold, it's simple, but some people don't know(or don't want to) that 1$=/=1€

3000JPY is three time less than in Europe :/ if it's new game.

Prices are established by the game companies of course there's always the currencies conversions what they try to do is like putting the game at the same price everywhere so that we all pay "the same" but we all must take another things into consideration like the importation taxes and the normal taxes we have, Japan tax is low, if I remember correctly it's around 5% while in my country it's around 21%, in Spain it's 16 or 19% can't remember correctly and so on.

The game prices have established fixed prices everywhere but they can change if seller wants to but I don't really believe in that so I'm not impressed why the game is cheaper there but that really makes me wonder why is so cheap while other titles in Japan are expensive plus I don't trust that box it doesn't really look like an official PS3 game box XD.

nothing new here. Usually, the multiplatform games are the same price in the UK, except for DMC4.

For that game, some person had the bright idea of charging £10 more for the PS3 version on the RRP, although you can get it down to £5 difference online. but the PS3 version is still more expensive.
I bit the bullet and got the more expensive version since I just couldn't get the most out of playing the game with a 360 pad.
Good thing too cos I hear there are issues with dodgy disks freezing the game for the 360 and some control issues, notably when you try to change styles with dante.

Don't complain. I paid close to 7950 yen for it (after) conversion. But at least I got in on launch date. Maybe the store could be selling the Asian version which is much cheaper. But I've compared all the versions and still prefer the Japanese as it has the L'arc song Drink it Down as the theme song which the other versions don't have (no license for it most likely).

Seeing the commercial made me quite a bit curious but I still won't go for a PAYstation 3 or an Xbox, probably because I just don't like the thought of spending so much money on a console.
I'll stick with my GC for now ^^

so naive...

I'm not one for fanboy-ism, and even though PS3 is a really good console in terms of hardware, people such as yourself always seems to take sides on the consoles wars without ever actually looking at the facts straight. In terms of games, the 360 does a really good job. I'll probably end up buying a ps3 when the software comes out, but at this point in time, it wouldn't be a wise investment...

In terms of why DMC 4 is cheaper on the 360, its probably because of how unpopular the 360 is in japan, and it could be a vantage point in enticing owners looking to venture into the console region into buying a 360. Nothing more than that, from what I can presume.

Danny, I do believe that this "offer" is only available in Japan... where the Xbox is doing "badly."

They've even reduced the price of Japanese xbox 360's to lower than that of the price in the US!

Of course we all know, this is in vain.

=]

Reason? the Xbox has a bunch of FPS, and sports games. None of which interest most Japanese gamers. Give us some decent RPG's on the Xbox please.

But I mean what can you say, they're American producers... only care about violence and competition, with no imagination.

The reason is simple Danny it does not have anything to do with quality, cause there are small barely inexistent differences between the versions. The difference in the price is because the PS3 version was more expensive to produce than the 360 perhaps because of the blu-ray that I don't know but the reason was indeed the production costs according to Capcom

I got both PS3 and 360, and I bought the game to PS3 even though it was more expensive.
Why?
Because PS3 is a damn much better console that I would choose over 360 any day and because of that I want to support it.

I totally forgot to pre-order the limited edition DMC4 for PS3. Went to my local EB Games and Game Trader, both of which said they were sold out. They were both selling the normal edition for $109.95 AUD (while 360 version was $99.95 AUD with plenty of copies in both the stores).

Luckily found a copy at a local JB Hifi and it was the same price as the normal edition at $89.95 AUD.

Plus I just got my PS3 like yesterday and played through the first mission last night. Man, it's awesome!!

When the PS3 version costs £10 ($20) more than the 360 version, it's no surprise that the 360 version sold more!!
Despite the advantages of the PS3 version (that 20 minute install time apparently does do something!)

20 minute install versus very minimal load time on the 360 as it is. Funny, without this excruciatingly long patch for the ps3, the load times would have been horrendous. People make the argument "Oh the Ps3 has fast load times because of this long patch, so it has to be faster than the 360", but the 360 never had slow loads to begin with. I just think it was a hardware issue with the PS3 version that needed to be addressed with this patch :/.

I can probably assume, however, that the Ps3 DMC4 probably looks better then the 360. Is this game dual shock enabled on the PS3? I can't recall, because I know sony only recently added in the Dual shock (which really should have been there from the beginning, screw the 6 axis, apparently it hasn't been well used anyways)

It's a tutorial. And really, it undermines how awesome Dante is, because of the predictability and ease of the tutorial (I mean, it has to be easy in order to teach the controls to new comers... but come one, infinite health? At least make a little bit of a challenge :P)

Why are those prices sooo cheap? I bought mine for the PS3 at roughly around 6500 yen. Love the game though and it's well worth it. ^^ Games these days seems to be more movie like...and Dante is way cooler now that he's more mature. heheh

I agree. I love the choreography in DMC 4. There are some sweet moves that I want to see done on the big screen in Hollywood movies. Seriously, whoever did all the cut scenes for DMC4, go out and get working on a movie. It'll be sick!
