Hmm actually karate is a modified Chinese kenpo brought by Chinese to Okinawa (and whole Ryukyu Islands) when it was a free kingdom. Karate was used by native Okinawa people when they fought against Japanese invasion in 17th century (sic!) and was introduced to the rest of Japan population in the beginning of 20th century. Technically speaking then its not a Japanese traditional sport, similar to baseball which is the Japanese national sport lol.
