7pm in Tokyo - New Years Eve

(Japan(78)
Wed 2008/12/31 21:11
What do Japanese folks do on new years eve then? Many spend it at home with family eating and watching new-years-eve TV and then head out to the shrines to receive blessings of good fortune for the following year.
We will leave here at about 11:15PM for the nearest shrine and flock with thousands of others from the neighborhood. This is what it was like last year.

Photo of our new years eve dinner - wonton, Alaska crab with garlic butter. Yum.
What are you doing this new years eve?

I shouldn't have looked at the picture! Now I'm hungry again DX

My family usually celebrates the New Year with a feast. Right now my mom is cooking wanton noodle soup, steamed fish and shrimp to be consumed later. We don't light fireworks like how most Filipinos do during the New Year. I like to keep the fingers on my hands complete LOL x_x

My neighbors seem to have bought some fireworks. I like how it lights up the sky. Too bad it's kinda drizzling now -_-

HAPPY NEW YEAR DANNY!!!

It's a tradition here to have a new year eve feast which called a Medya Noche. We also follow Chinese beliefs like for example having 13 kinds of fruits served before the new year so that when the new year comes, you'll have prosperity and good fortune throughout the new year.

I will be attending a church mass(Catholic) and head to my friend's house for a New Year's Eve party. It's kind of refreshing since I've been in Japan for past two winters. I would stay with my friend from Osaka in Tokyo to attend Comiket and my friend can borrow a room for free in Tokyo thru his scholarship program from his university. We would buy some beers and snacks to munch on and watch the Red-White Song Competition on TV and congratulate on successful completion of Comic Market and wish Happy New Years to come.

Hope everyone have awesome New Year's Eve and Happy New Years to all of you :)

In Spain, it's a tradition eating 12 grapes on new year's eve, one after each of the last 12 chimes of the year. They also say you have to wish something while you do it, but eating the grapes at a so fast rate is already a challenge, you know xd
