The last day of the year and a time to talk about what the best anime of 2008 was. I'm still backlogged and still haven't finished Macross, Geass, Kemeko, Kannagi, Nodame and many more ^^; But I did manage to keep up with Strike Witches and loved it. The animation and especially the background music was great. As for the worst anime of 2008 - dont particulary remember any bad ones but do remember a load where I gave up after the first EP like Toradora and Hyakko. Sanya image from Sankaku.
Awww ... how can you give up on ToraDora ... definitely need to give that another shot.
Totally agree, how could you give up on Toradora? Give it a go Danny.
Toradora! is very good. It is actually getting better with each episode.
agreed on that. i even gave Hyakko a few more eps before i shot it down totally. same deal with ToraDora and Casshern Sins but it started to get interesting so i gave it a chance instead.
Yeah same. I gave up on the 1st ep, but came back to it and loved it!
haha same happened with me - 2 girls walking around campus for an entire episode didn't work well with me i guess that's a problem with some slice-of-life adaptations, the 1st episode sucks if you didn't read the manga b4 hand ie: Lucky Star - first 10mins was about food...
Much like investing for those types. You put in some time hoping to have it get entertaining soon. But sometimes it doesnt work out.
I did... and I stuck with it for two episodes....
I gave up on Toradora after 7 episodes. I Stuck with Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka and regretted that as well. ^_^ Maybe i chose the wrong one to drop...or maybe i shoulda dropped them both.
I gave up after 4
Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka's ending was rather -___- to me. kinda defeated the whole purpose of watching the anime coz it was like back to square one at the end of season 1.
i went over the whole series too, the ending was lolzzzzzzz pretty much weird to me too!
well i thought the same at first but after thinking about it, is pretty much a harem ending...The problem was that Junichi wasnt being honest with his feelings and he said it at the end but that doesnt mean Hime back off, therefore her return at the end. Overall i enjoyed it but I wasn't closely following it every week
I just finished the final episode after watching this the whole way through. It was generally sitting at a 7/8 out of 10 for most of the series, but after the last few episodes it ended on a 6. Disappointing as this was a show that at the start I felt had real potential.
I finished Akane-iro, but I dont know why. The first half wasnt that bad, but I didnt enjoy the second at all.
I have to agree with the others... Toradora it's really good (it's not perfect but I'm sure you'll end enjoying it Danny!)
I totally agree as well. Torador-able is well... adorably awesome. You should give it another go.
I dont see how you can give up on a first episode, i personally love toradora and i think everyone should give it more than 1 episode...
agreed!
This man speaks the truth, don't drop it. To tell you the truth i stopped watching it after 4 eps but then I came back and marathoned eps 5-13 and to tell you the truth it was worth it. The show is quite good after all.
yes exactly, Danyy you're missing out on a great show.
Yea Danny! Toradora rox, watch more!
I definitely agree! ToraDora is one of the best anime to come out this fall season IMHO. Some of the anime that I stopped watching is Kurogane no Linebarrel, Tales of the Abyss and To Arusu Majutsu no Index. Can't really say if they're the worst but it really got boring so I just dropped it.
Curious, as To Aru Majutsu no Index is my favourite series of the season, followed by Toradora and Kannagi. Then Clannad ~AS~. What I consider interesting is that to me, all the 'good' series this time around needed a 'start up' span of two to three episodes until I started to enjoy them. More specifically, Toradora, Hyakko and Index. Hyakko I actually wanted to drop right after the first episode, something I normally never do. Glad I didn't. I liked Toradora from the start, but it keeps getting better. And Index is just a sorta odd thing that kinda grows onto you. I first saw a few eps of the anime, then read the manga as far as it is released, and suddenly enjoyed the anime a lot more for some nonsensical reason. Because it's awesome, or something. I dunno.
Also, Strike Witches kinda had me torn. In one way, IMHO it was a -better- 'Sky Girls' to me. On the other hand I felt like I was watching it for pantsu fanservice. Lucchini pantsu fanservice, but nonetheless pantsu fanservice. I usually tend to drop series that just shove pantsu into your face right away, because something irks me about series that do that. (Najica anyone?) This is also the reason why I loved Toradora from the first episode. Unfanservice-ey-ness. Or something. If anything, I'd prolly applaud Strike Witches for somehow managing to do the pantsu fanservice 'tastefully' enough somehow that I could watch it without getting ticked off. I'm sure magic or satan was involved here.
Well, here in the States we are a bit behind, but I have to call Geass one of the best anime of the year, and that I've seen. Also have to add Gurren Lagan. Despite the (surprisingly light) editing by Sci-Fi, was still rocking. Still waiting for Macross Frontier. Hell Girl is still running, so it won't finish the first season here until after the new year. (Go IFC!) Death Note was good, so I guess you could slap that into the list. So many series left to see.
Best anime for me this year that I watched was Monster, Gurren Lagan, Eureka Seven, Code Geass, Gundam 00, Casshern Sins, Ga Rei Zero. The worst i thought Death Note was rubbish.lol. a waste of time to me.
Another person who doesn't like Death Note! Excellent, I'm not alone now.
Yeah, Death Note sucked out loud. So did Code Geas 2, a waste of time. I did like Kanagi and Kemeko tho.
Monster was awesome, if a little overly long. I saw it years ago though, it wasn't a 2008 series.
best would be toradora, worst would be rosario and vampire capu2
the good.. macross, gundam, geass, shana kemeko. The ok to love ru. The bad tora dora (i tried up to ep 4 just didn't hold my interest) probably plenty out there i haven't seen yet.. good an bad..
Best of 2008… I will only list anime that ended in 2008. Kannagi Ga-Rei Zero Detroit Metal City (Go to DMC!!!) Kurenai
Go to DMC!!!
GO TO DMC. GO TO DMC.. GO TO DMC.... Detroit metal city! (Go To Dmc) Kannagi Sekirei Tetsuwan Birdy: Decode Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu DaCapo 2 season 2 Casshern Sins Toradora don't have much of a bad list.. umm but i didn't like To love RU... that series could have been 10 episodes shorter..
KLAUSER SAN SAIKO!!!!
Macross Frontier definitely even though the animation quality isn't consistent between episodes.
Yeah Macross Frontier FTW :P
GREAT MUSIC!!! for MF
The best for me would be Kannagi, followed by Toradora. The worst would most definitely be Toaru Majutsu no Index, it's too illogical to be true, not to say melodramatic.
Wow, really? I thought Index was a good show :X There was only one episode I was really disappointed in because barely anything happened. Otherwise, it's just fine. If you say that Index is illogical, can't I say that Kannagi was illogical? Afterall, goddesses and espers existing in anime is about the same level. Anyways, that was just a story issue. As for the actual, animation I'd say Index is one of the better ones in the bunch (Kannagi is up in the ranks too). Though I can't really tell which is actually THE best. I was quite disappointed in Chaos;Head however, because it takes so long to understand what was going on in the anime itself. The only thing that made me stick to watching it was a tiny bit of previous knowledge of the story.
need to play Chaos;head game to undrestand properly, anime was disapointing, poor animations and dragged on too long... @saito, how is index bad? and illogical? wth.. its just a supernatural genre of anime, animes arn't true, they can be anything, as long as its creative.
Noob taku ate the hax and became a haxx0r like instantly.... it even failed to make me remember the last new gen! In the game its was the lady eating her own hands (as she though it was yakitori D:).
It's kinda hard to do a best of because I always forget about the stuff that came out in January ^^; So it's not that fair, but I'll list what I remember My favourites of 2008 Itazura na Kiss Kemeko DX Macross Frontier Kannagi Toradora And to defend Toradora and Hyakko... I kept going with Toradora because I saw potential. Hyakko I didn't see anything good with the first episode and it didn't go anywhere, but I gave it a chance and it redeemed itself within episodes 2 and 3. I have a middle ground for my list which is for stuff that's somewhat good, but not the best: Hyakko Koihime Musou Tales of the Abyss Nogizaka Haruko no Himitsu And one anime that I watched til the final episode and was very disappointed with was... Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka -- Some episodes I just didn't even feel watching, but I was hoping for something good to come out of it because I liked the first episode. The whole series was so generic and mediocre that I wished I didn't see til the end. The ending was not to my liking either... It wasted the development that they've built up and ended anti-climatically. For me at least.
Whoops... mispelled... *Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu. I almost gave up on the show because some episodes also seemed generic. The Shana cosplay and references won me over.
Shana Cosplay and references were win! I really liked the show though, was a lot of fun, but I can also see why some people wouldn't like it.
Macross Frontier for me <3 Gundam 00's up there too, especially with all of the quality animation they've put out ;x lolol. I want to catch up on a bunch of series that I put on hold such as the Tower of Druaga, Toshokan Sensou, and Casshern Sins.
Code Geass R2, Kannagi, Macross Frontier, Kemeko, Toradora, Gundam 00 2nd season, and Clannad After Story y/n?
for me R2 had too much plot holes. if "R3" does come out will give it a shot. C TSU!!
lol I must agree Hyakko was one of the worst. The best would be G00ndam!
Tyrannia is horrible!
Second and Hyakko for me.
I made a large year end post on the subject, well there is 3 of them here. http://www.soulfringe.com/ complete with youtube opening/endings/promos etc and a page full of my favorite opening/endings. =D Tytania so far has been my favorite. Was a hard year to choose from. It's weird, I expect each year to be worse than the last, but it ends up being better without me realizing it until reflection time =D
Tytania? Bleah. You've been eating too many tomatos.
Hmm, tbh it's a bit hard for me to remember the spring season haha... i'm geting old ain't i? ><;; As for ToraDora and Hyakko... can't agree with you there, they might start a bit slow but both are lovely in their own way. Hyakko didn't really chain me down, but i certainly enjoyed it. I enjoyed Junjou Romantica (S1/S2) a lot, but i doubt that it's content is anything for the broad audience here haha. ^^; As for the rest... It's hard to pick a best for me since many animes had their own feats and i enjoyed them due those. Casshern for it's oldschool style, combined with interesting music and an advanced story. Skip Beat just for the laughs... i love it when girls get the rage on boys haha. Kuroshitsuji just because Sebastian is a cool pet to have. Soul Eater for the laughs and story. ToraDora for it's cuteness and romance. Code Geass ... for the suspense it managed to give me. ;) EF-A Tale of Memories/Melodies ... just because i like it complex. H2O was certainly a nice lovestory as well. Hayate no Gotoku shouldn't be forgotten either. Kanokon... well... it was cute, i have to admit that, suger loads - despite the fanservice. Shakugan no Shana - alltogether just gimme more. Shigofumi - just for being different. True Tears - dunno, i was moved by it... Zetsubou Sensei and his clique which did roll over my screen and gave my many tears of laugther. If i missed something, then it wasn't prolly worth to be mentioned in the first place. ;) But i'm only human so...
Quote: "Kuroshitsuji just because Sebastian is a cool pet to have." but u'll die to the pet eventually!! X_X "Hayate no Gotoku shouldn't be forgotten either." OMFG.... thats like solid 50+ eps of non stop laughing action!!
I loved Junjou Romantica, best BL anime ever.
I dropped Kemeko DX after ep 5. I just found it to be so uninteresting. Toradora became one of my favorites. Hyakko isn't that bad...when it doesn't spend a lot of time on secondary characters. When it spends any length of time away from the main characters, then it dives into Kemeko territory.
Oh and Kannagi, Tetsuwan Birdy Decode are also my most loved favorite shows this year. Nodame Cantable Paris and Akane-iro No Somaru Saka were good ones to
Code Geass has to be my best and favorite anime of 2008! Honestly, I've never seen an anime with such a crazy and surprising plot. So many episodes left me in total awe. Also, so far, Toradora and Tytania get each a place in my favorites. As for the worst, Kurozuka was a total mess up, it looked great after 2 episodes, but the last part became completely confusing and the finale was just cr**.
I really can't remember any bad anime I watched this year... Mainly because I did some research and read review on an anime before I decided to watch it. For the best... there's 00, CG, Kyouran Kazoku, Toradora, Soul Eater etc... ps, Toradora just got better by each episode ^^
Best anime, i think i'd give it to Ga-Rei Zero/Code geass, they are both great, seriously, Ga-Rei Zero was a surprise for me, it's really good
Agree with you about Ga-Rei Zero… I was hooked after the first episode.
This is a nice guide for some shows that I missed.
Some Anime that i'm in the middle of watching will not be listed on either list but so far it's looking good: 1. Clannad Afterstory 2. Toradora 3. Kannagi 4. Blade Of The Immortal Best Anime i've seened in 2008: 1. Nogizaka Haruka No Himitsu 2. Strike Witches 3. To Heart 2 AD OAV Worst Anime for 2008: 1. Macademi Wasshoi UNDECIDED list: 1. Zero No Tsukaima Princess No Rondo (Season 1 & 2 were just better than season 3)
Yea agree with Zero no Tsukaima... 1&2 seemed so much better. Season 3 seemed to be fan-servicey and not as epic ending. I'd really want to see season 4.
Zero No Tsukaima Princess No Rondo was just plain. It wasn't great and it wasn't bad either. I guess what made me watch it was the whole Tabitha arc, where she was kidnapped and saved by Saito, and i'm guessing Tabitha developed feelings for Saito as well. The ending, episode 12, did not leave me with the same sensation i got from watching the last episode of season 1 & 2.
Gundam 00, Macross Frontier and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (and the second season) for me~ :)
Code Geass R2 and Kannagi top the list for me. I refuse to consider Clannad/Toradora and the like because they're not done airing yet. Testuwan Birdy Decode gets a nice runner-up medal though. And I have yet to watch Frontier, so I can't count that. :P There's a bunch of other really good shows I've seen this year, but they're ones from 2007 or earlier so I'm not counthing those either.
Bests: Code Geass R2 Zoku/Goku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei Lucky Star OVA Michiko to Hatchin Zero no Tsukaima: Princess no Rondo To Aru Majutsu no Index can say nothing about worsts, may be coz i didn't watch them =__=
The Lucky Star OAV was no different from the TV series from the prior year. What made it so great was the Moe and of course the whole Kagami/Miku Hatsune crossover. A lot of people including me felt that it was too long and the last 10 minutes were boring. And the real life Akira wasn't violent as the 2D Akira.
Bests of 2008 for me has gotta be Code Geass R2 and others I liked are: Kannagi, Gundam 00, Clannad After Story, Tales of The Abyss As for anime I didn't like, I don't really have any.
My best watched anime in 2008, literally ('cause, the 2008 Anime season would not end until March 2009):
-Macross Frontier
-Gundam 00
-CLANNAD After Story
-Kannagi
-Toradora!
-Hyakko (started slow, but it gets better later on)
-Casshern SINS (a classic reinvetion with a twist)
-Mnemosyne (a bit short, but still kicks ass!)
-Kyouran Kazoku Nikki
-ChäoS;HEAd
-Blassreiter
For the worst anime of 2008, just Penguin Musume Heart ('cause it needs a new season!)
Okay, I'm too jaded, as I did not have a "MUST SEE" anime of 2008
but here goes my list of interesting anime for 2008.
Good:
Strike Witches (Lucchini!!)
Kannagi
ToraDora
Nogizaka Haruka No Himitsu (Say what you will, I loved it)
So-So:
Code Geass R2 (Liked it a lot but did not love it)
GundamOO (it is ok)
Macademi_WAsshoi (Chessy, cliche, but a guilty pleasure of mine)
Kanokan (Another guilty pleasure)
Worst:
Rosario ('Nuff said)
Kemeko (Dropped after 2 episodes)
To Aru Majutsu no Index (WTF is up with the pacing??!!)
Line Barrels of Iron (Wannbe.)
Soul Eater (Again pacing/direction?!!)
Zero No Tsukaima (Could have been much better.)
Slayers Revolution (Get the story moving already!)
Macross Frontier (Gag me, the only thing I liked was the DYRL insert songs)
Sekirei (WTF were they thinking?)
-Oh forgot some titles Good: Candy Boy Eve No Jikan Shoujo Sect(Yeah, yeah,so what?) Worst: To Love Ru (Beyond salvation) Casshern Sins (Promising start, but died) Ga Rei Zero (Promising start, but died) Ikkitousen (Bombed-pun not intended)
I placed Macademi Wasshoi on my worst only because of the storyline. After 3 episodes it doesn't look promising afterwards. Guilty pleasure is absolutely correct. There's something about Hasegawa Suzuho being mute that makes her hot. x]
Yeah, I know that the series is bad & extremely predictable but I just loved Suzuho's signs. ^^; At least I found it more entertaining than Rosario & To Love Ru.
Can't really name the best or the worst since I didn't see that many series, but I'll list the ones that I enjoyed and the ones that weren't as enjoyable. The ones I enjoyed were Gundam 00, Clannad After Story, Kannagi, and Toradora. Zero no Tsukaima 3 was a bit disappointing. The fanservice kind of eliminated the story somewhat. Those were the ones that aired this year. As for older ones that I saw this year, I thoroughly enjoyed the Aria series, Fate/Stay Night, and Minami-ke.
all the above & below mention~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Toradora was one of the ones I really liked this year. I can't say what's in my top because I can't really remember what played. But I do remember I absolutely hated Minami-Ke Okawari because they somehow turned a comedy manga into a not funny anime. The fact that those same people are making Okaeri is really off putting.
Defense for Hyakko> I agree, there are boring moments. But there are great moments in Hyakko that made me glad that I kept on watching. IMO: 2-3 episodes should be how much time you should commit initially to like or dislike anime (in recent cases, Hyakko took me three episodes for keeps, Toradora took two for get rid of). Extreme cases like -Soul Eater, 5-6 episodes, before I decided that I like the manga more -Linebarrel, 1st episode was great, 3rd episode made me drop it completely -CG R2, watched it b/c it was the continuation of the first season, REGRETTED watching it around episode 20 -Macross F, watched it b/c of the awesome insert music, holy cow first episode (deculture ver.), and valkyries, ashamed of it by last episode So all in all... 2008 top 3) 1.) Lucky Star OVA (Seriously, I was already happy about the thought that Kyo-Ani was releasing an OVA. It's another to say that it's completely original (from the manga), and it had great moments, made it definitely something I was glad I watched). 2.) Kyouran Kazoku Nikki (Very stupid, very random, very funny). 3.) Gundam 00 (it's about time we got a good Gundam series to forget about SEED) 2008 worst 3) 1.) Code Geass R2 (it really did not live up to Season 1) 2.) Minami-ke Okawari (I really don't know why I watched it... probably b/c I watched the first season and wanted closure. I didn't get it). 3.) School Rumble (I mean, it's an OVA, but it really did not deliver or pick up from where it left off of.... Already, it was flimsy -funny moments and stupid moments not even worth air time-, and with the edition of this, it was a major let down). 2008 top 3, I was GLAD to find) 1.) Ga Rei > without the anime, I would have never found the manga -the manga is seriously great, once you finish Zero, although, there is a little wtf moments. 2.) Hyakko > manga is definitely hilarious 3.) Kemeko DX > in the same sense of Kyouran, except Kyouran is not a manga, but a novel (or so I hear) 2008 top 3, let down) 1.) Macross F > high expectations, bad ending (too cheery, and too conveniently closed together) 2.) Nodame Paris > TOO SHORT!!!! NOT MUCH MUSIC!!! FEEL VERY CHEATED!!! 3.) Slayers Revolution > really, this is because I have no previous background in Slayers... (note, I can essentially put CG R2 in this list, but I'll keep it to one category) Stuff that did not make it to the list: Toshokan Sensou Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu ARIA the Origination (just b/c I thought the manga had better end stories) Xamdou (not finished)
adding one more to Stuff that did not make it to the list: Eve no Jikan > not finished, but it is definitely in the top five for I was glad to find the company's other works (especially Pale Cocoon for the omg ending, and Aquatic Language for the wtf ending).
Best: To-LOVE-Ru. Worst: Vampire Knight. But I dunno if they are from 2008, I saw them this year ^^;;;
Good: ef a tale of melodies One Outs Hellsing Ultimate 5 Telepathy Shoujo Ran Decent: Macross F Bad: Chaos;Head Casshern Sins Down Right terrible: Zero no Tsukaima: Princesse no Rondo Toradora Code Geass R2 GaRei Zero GONZOOOOOO!!!! Tower of Druaga: Aegis of Uruk
What shall this "GONZOOOOOO!!!!" mean?!? i liked The Tower of Druaga a lot and watched it twice this year. And it was officially on Youtube, so my first series i could watch directly when it came out. What i did not like that much was Blassreiter eventhough i watched it the entire series (yeah some episodes where pretty good and Amanda was in it^^)
i liked hyakko
Best anime of 2008 for me were: Code Geass R2 Gundam 00 Macross Frontier Real Drive Blassreiter Kannagi Kurozuka Kuroshitsuji One Outs Detroit Metal City most likely there are a few others but can't recall them. As for worst, I can't really remember any, tho I know I dropped so many series after watching the first episode, orz.
i do want to give One outs a try... . .
Many people dropped Toradora assuming it was just another cliched tsundere-abusing-a-spineless-guy show. Fortunately, it turned out to not be that at all. That was a feint that led to a much richer show.
Seconded. I mean, he ain't even spineless, she ain't really abusing him anymore, and the series as a whole is quite... good? :3
Best: Natsume Yuujin Chou Junjou Romantica <3 <3 Casshern Sins ToraDora Bonen no Xamdou Blassreiter Real Drive Gundam 00 Worst: Hyakko Rosario to Vampire
The only one I didn't like was Kemeko DX. I tried to like it, I really did, but to no avail :(
Toradora is a series because Rie Kugumiya voiced the leading character. And I like Rie, that's why I like Toradora. :D Worst anime for me was Hyakko. I almost slept over from it because of the silent atmosphere it gives. xD Best is Macross F: songs, animation and character. LOL
My favorite anime for 2008 is Kannagi. Nagi-sama is threatening the place of Haruhi-sama in my heart. I also like Code Geass R2 and Ga Rei Zero. For worst anime ... I don't watch that many anime really but would say Koihime Musou. Didn't like it at all.
Hey! - Toradora it's really great!!.. i fall in love whit the ED song! (L) , great Anime. - Hyakko: i just exploit of laughing XDD, really funny xD. - Macross Frontier.... not for the final ¬¬... but it's a cameos-of-all-of-macross-sagas.. and the first OP.. really great! - DMC: oh, oh, oh.. i need more DMC, just very very fun XD - Kannagi: still view whats happends!!. i like too much. ...oh! and Code Geass R2!... the final cap... >_<... just great! and I expected more of nodame cantabile paris-hen and chaos:head .. but well. ..
oh, and i forget, Bounen no Xamdou and Michiko to Hatchin!!.. really great animation, and art.. is a pleasure to see it. And Soul Eater ! =P
My favourite of the year was ef - melodies, hands down. As for my least favourite...well, it's probably something that I didn't watch because I knew I wouldn't like it anyhow ;P
You should try new things, but finish what you started. ^^
-Takes notes and run away- ~
Hey Danny, how about the Best and Worst Figures of 2008 http://www.dannychoo.com/detail/mac/eng/image/12314/DC%27s+members+choice+awards+2008.html
Best Code Geass Gundam 00 Kannagi Macross Frontier Clannad Skip Beat Worst Rosario Zero no Tsukaima Princess No Rondo (I did finish watching it though)
Best: Geass, ToraDora, Kannagi ah heck, just check my blog for the tl;dr :D worst: Nogizaka Chaos;Head :(
How about some Sekirei, eh?
Wow looking back, I downloaded for a year, but have not touched any of the anime series...
and the question is, what size HD do you have to not care about what you dled?
Best anime of the year, for me, has been Gundam 00 S2. I'm a huge mecha fan. ^_^ Honorable mentions include Clannad ~After Story~, Toradora!, Code Geass R2 and Tales of the Abyss.
Oh and as for worst I nominate Yozakura Quartet. I love the manga but the anime was just too different for me to even consider giving it a chance. Dropped it after 2 eps.
My favourites this year have been Library Wars and Birdy The Mighty Decode. Worst I've seen this year... hard to say, really. I'm pretty picky so I only watch the ones which appeal to me, which I normally stick with. I'll say Slayers Revolution, but I still enjoyed it. I want Naga back, though.
let's see... best: - Code Geass R2 - Macross F - Kannagi - Gundam 00 S2 - Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae i dunno wht else but i'm probably forgetting some more unsalvageable: - Dragonaut (flush!) - To Love-Ru (too much nonsense) - Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu (letdown) and perhaps a whole lot more that i gave up on... funny that after i completed Rosario + Vampire 2 i find it ok!
Finally! someone who thinks Nogizaka was letdown! I thought I was the odd one, lots of ppl said it was a great series and all. I'm surprised Kara no Kyoukai didnt get mentioned much.
What?!?! I love Toradora and Hyakko...they are both mad funny and cute to me. What I found to be horrible this season would be Rosario to Vampire capu2. WTF HORRIBLE! Especially the censoring. I stuck with it and watched it (dunno why I did though...)
You should`n have dropped toradora it`s worth it, but as for hyakko you deffinately did the right thing. Just give it another shot you wont be dissapointed. For me it was hyakko - tried to watch around 6 episodes and for me it was an absolute time waster.. It`s hard to see a scholl life anime from such a disastreus calibur.
The Year of 2008 (Anime) 2008 started off with awesome anime like: spice and wolf (no one has said this yet WHY) Shigofumi Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei True Tears with disappointing shows: H2O: Footprints in the Sand Gunslinger Girl: Il Teatrino Minami-ke Okawari by the time the next season was about to start everyone was hooked watching a cat named chi and shows like Kurenai xxxHOLiC: Kei Toshokan Sensou Kaiba Nijuu-Mensou no Musume diappointing: Kyouran Kazoku Nikki Wagaya no Oinari-sama Da Capo II Second Season oh yea Code Geass Hangyaku no Lelouch R2 came out but not my thing out of no where a web show called Candy Boy started (i like it) by the middle of the year another Ikkitousen series was about to air (how do those ecchi fans keep this show going) As the summer season started we were lucky to see shows like: Hidamari Sketch x 365 Yakushiji Ryoko no Kaiki Jikenbo Natsume Yuujinchou Bounen no Xamdou disappointing: Slayers Revolution Strike Witches (2008) Zero no Tsukaima: Princess no Rondo August started and we got to see 2 of the best 15 min shows around Detroit Metal City Eve no Jikan by the end of Sept we got more of our lucky star fix with the lucky star ova and finally the fall season of anime gave us Clannad After Story Kannagi Toradora Hyakko To Aru Majutsu no Index ef - a tale of melodies Skip Beat disappointing: Akane-Iro ni Somaru Saka Chaos;Head Kurozuka Kyou no Go no Ni TV Shikabane Hime: Aka Rosario to Vampire Capu2 on the 29.12.08 Maikaze Touhou Anime Project ep 1 was released wow what a great way to end 2008 so whats the best of 2008 Detroit Metal City worst of 08 Gunslinger Girl: Il Teatrino 2009 maybe the year of the squeal with more Minami-ke, Natsume Yuujinchou, everyone fav boxer ippo, another series of slayers and maybe ed and al find their mother.
oh yeah shigofumi!! really great and birdy the mighty, its cool
I think the best for me is Macross Frontier. As for the bad ones... I didnt even bother to remember the name ^^; Toradora isnt that bad; from the look of episode one, it might look like the usual master and dog drama. But it really isnt that bad, at least watch it for Kugimiya!! ^^;
i'm not too picky, but despite that 今日の5の2 was pretty terrible for the first couple episodes (as far as I've got so far). a shame since the manga was great.
toradora macross frontier kemeko deluxe code geass R2[ only some episodes those were the best i seen this year.
Can't even remember what I was watching last January. Zoku Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei Hayate no Gotoku Clannad Clannad After Story Code Geass R2 Toaru Majutsu no Index Toradora and the Tsubasa Chronicle and Lucky Star OVAs were quite awesome as well. Worst... are shows that tried to wrap lots of fanservice (action or ecchi) in plot. Certainly there are ways to make it work, but more often than not the sacrifice of cinematography (low angle shots) or flashy fights (animation budget) leave plot looking like watered down gruel where the gruel is a speck of rice in some forsaken lake--like a pathetic burned ribbon of bacon tied around some fetid morsel. Or when a studio tried to take a joke-oriented series and force it to run on a half-assed contiguous plot. It's prolly easier to name studios than anime for this one.
but Hyakko's ep 2 is the best imho!
Hmm, Sanya...still waiting for the dvd release to be complete before I watch this though. Unfortunately, my backlog is so big I don't believe I even watched one series from this year....
No way dude, Hyakko rocks! ;) Nodame 2n season sucks so much, It's damned short and no love between them. cya
I think ToraDora is good, only the first ep is boring. Hyakko, I dropped it after ep 2, lol. Nodame is good, whatever happens, I really like the hilarity of that anime(both seasons). For the past seasons I can't remember, maybe I'm catching older anime at that time, lol. Hail Gurren Lagann! xD
It's disappointing how few people have mentioned the fantastic show that is CASSHERN SINS. Great atmosphere, great soundtrack, great and intriguing story, and great art too. I also enjoyed Macross Frontier, although the story was pretty much all over the place. Also fantastic is MICHIKO TO HATCHIN! Too bad this one is hard to find, as it has the best art in anime anime in years, and has a nice unique storyline too. Also worth mentioning, Jigoku Shoujou, Mouryou no Hako, and the new Golgo 13 TV series.
School days was certainly interesting...
Best: Strike Witches - I love ecchi anime so nuff said. Good: Rosario+Vampire Capu2 - it would be the best for me if they followed the manga story rather than create an TOTAL ecchi spin off. Worst: Hmmm...can't seem to find one since most 2008 animes are all ecchi and eroge based. :p
Top shows of 2008 for me: Strike Witches Kyou no Go no No Soul Eater ToraDora Kannagi Allison to Lillia Kemeko DX Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu Toloveru Middle of the road: Chaos:head Sekirei Dropped: Kanokon Blade of the immortal
Also, just realised i missed my favourite of the year off the list: Itazura na Kiss ! Awesome show!!!
Ehehe Glad you didn't forget that show. Bought the DVDs after all :D
I'm in despair over the lack of Kaiba, Kurenai, Natsume Yuujinchou, True Tears and Ga-Rei Zero fans. Now THESE are gems.
I'm still watching Toradora and Hyakko - can't see a reason to drop them :). My favorites (in random order): Code Geass R2 (of course) Kannagi Kyou no Go no Ni Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu Itazura na Kiss Allison to Lillia Natsume Yuujinchou Zettai Karen Children Spice and Wolf Kurenai Toaru Majutsu no Index Kurozuka Shikabane Hime Aka and there are several i haven't seen yet .. need more time! And worst .. i'am not sure, i just take a look a new series and forget the bad ones ...
oh, i forgot to mention To Love-Ru and Ga-Rei-Zero. Michiko to Hatchin and Skip Beat! are also good.
Worst Anime has to be To love-ru, what a shame! Best Anime has to be Geass, Macross Frontier, Special A (i luv it ^_^), kannagi, ef (in his own category drama), Wagaya no Oinorisama was funny as well and more that i dont remember now!
I really liked "Strike Witches" too. Loved "Aria The Origination", "Code Geass R2", "Minami-ke Okawari", "Gundam 00", "Hyakko", "True Tears", "Wagaya No Oinari-sama"... lots of good shows this year. ^^ Dropped several series too, like "To Love RU" (prefer the manga a lot more), "Kanokon",...
I, like Danny, gave up on ToraDora after the first episode. I'm not quite sure why... might be a combo of how I didn't like the style the guys were drawn in, and that it didn't speak to me... I won't deny she's cute though. Favourite series for me... Strike Witches, Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu, Kannagi, Clannad AS, Kara no Kyoukai, H20 Footprints in the Sand(Technically stretched into this year too lol) Denno Coil(wasn't this year I don't think, but I loved it all the same) and Kurenai. I'm sure there are more. But there are most of my favourites. All good, very good anime. As for stuff I've dropped.... Sekirei...Polyphonica(not released this year lol)...Skip Beat.....loads more... but I never pick up series I don't think theres even a little chance I'll like it. Most of the time I'm lucky.
I'm a bit behind on anime but this year I have watched a few old ones like Initial D, Naruto and Gundam Seed Destiny. All of them were good apart from Destiny lol that was only ok... Started to watch Shippuuden which is great, Gundam 00 another good one. And also started an old one Claymore whch is getting very good! Can't wait for new anime to come out in 09! HAPPY NEW YEAR!! ^_^

Strike Witches, Tytania, Ga-Rei Zero, Hayate no Gotoku! and Bounen no Xamdou were my favourites this year. Shakugan no Shana II had a few great episodes as well, but overall it was a disappointment. My favourite manga was To Love-Ru!
I'm another one to recommend ToraDora. I think it's a brilliant show, Taiga's personality is like an hedgehog - adorable and spikey! Also watching Kemeko and Kannagi. Worst series... well, can't really say as I haven't watched too many and I've like what I have. Gave up on Special A after the first episode though.
Best for this years, end and not end. Gundam 00, Geass, Kannagi and etc. BTW, actually Toradora was quite fun to watch, can give a another try too.
The best example that some things should stay as OAV's not TV series - Kyou no Go no Ni - OAV version was 1000 times better. Rosario to Vampire Capu2- the worst case of pantsu censoring ever >< !! Nodame Cantabile Paris Hen - complete and utter failure in the most important part of this show - MUSIC !!! Clannad After Story - I don't know why but after 1st season I expected a lot more from this one. Mission E - no, just no, seriously NO! Kamen no Maid guy - chichi onna without chichi full shown in ALL eps? GTFO ! For good parts - One Outs, a mix of Akagi/Kaiji and Major, great show! Itazura no Kiss - not great but solid show and fun to watch. Kurenai - for angry loli ^_^. And the Best Anime of 2008 - DMC - I laughed till my eyes watered and stomach got cramps ^^.
My favourites were Strike Witches, ef, Junjou Romantica, and Code Geass R2. Although at some points Geass was like the worst. ^^ really, the onlybad anime I watched was Kuroshitsuji.
kannagi and gundam00 and also strike witches
Didn't watch much this year, but found Kurenai the best. Also liked Macross Frontier tons, but that's not everyone's cup of tea so I can understand why some people would hate it. Worst - Kanokon, god I want my wasted time back =_=
Hard topic:) Can't name one, but I liked Toradora, Macross Frontier, Kannagi (the karaoke episode vast the best imho), Earl and Fairy, Kuroshitsuji, Vampire Knight Guilty and others.
Amatsuki is HANDS DOWN THE WORST ANIME I'VE WATCHED THIS YEAR!! as for best anime, I pretty much liked every other series I've watched this year. Clannad ~After Story~, Toradora, Macross Frontier are among my faves...
Best: Code Geass R2 Clannad Kannagi Hayate no Gotoku Ookami to Koushinryou xxxHOLiC Kei Worst: Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka School Rumble San Gakki Kanokon - didnt finish it
I liked Clannad After Story, Ef - a tale of melodies, Toradora, Kannagi, Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka (It was good though I don't know why most people here didn't like it), xxxHOLiC Kei, Vampire Knight Guilty, Ga-Rei Zero, Kanokon, Itazura na Kiss, To Love-ru, Minami-ke Okawari, Spice and Wolf, Zero no Tsukaima: Princesse no Rondo, and some more, can't remember them :D
Crap! How can i forget Kanokon? (After looking at someone elses list) Best list for 2008 UPDATE: 1. Kanokon 2. Kannagi (I'm only on episode 2 and it's very good)
Macross Frontier hands down the best anime of 2008.
I agree
I enjoyed it for sure, and it did look and sound nice, but you have to admit, the story was completely random and made no sense at all. So best anime of the year? I think you need to watch more anime! Go and watch some Michiko to Hatchin or Casshern Sins for example. Two superb shows with much better stories than Macross.
Chaos head was one of the worst so far. X'amd is the best one this year I think
chaos head is rather interesting but i need to catch up with the ep like with the other series that are on hold (To Aru Majutsu no Index, toradora, kemmeko, rosario (somewat iffy), kyou no go no ni, etc.) But so far, i have grown to love Macross Frontier (best anime of '08) along with Clannad After story (awesome OP and END)
oh, also cannot forget kannagi-sama (OP is too addicting) and several other series that were introduce in 08
Best: Gundam 00 Code Geass R2 Kannagi Clannad after story Natsume Yuujinchou Of course I have a lot in the middle and a couple more bests but those pretty much top the list. Worst in my book: Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu (Just couldn't get into it) Chaos;Head I have to catch up on Macross e.e I've been reading a lot of good things about it. I guess I just need motivation.
There is no such thing as the best, good or the worst anime if you're an otaku or anime lover and dont judge an anime until you watch it until the final episode
i have watched to much to remember the best and the worst and its hard to say if something is the best or worse but i do know that i didn't particularly like Strike Witches and dropped it at about episode 4 and i really do like Toradora and can barely wait for new episode to come out
hmm.. My favourites of 2008 kannagi gundam00 geass r2 shigofumi maccros f new evangelion strike witches the worst maybe to aru majutsu no index still watch list kuroshitsuji and lucky star ova have been watch nogizaka haruka no himitsu kanokon kemeko dx Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka toradora sekirei jigoku shoujo vampire knight to love ru butt drop them all
best: Gurren Lagann Claymore Shakugan no Shana II Tower of Druaga worst: Strike witches gunslinger girl dragonauts ikki toursen GG ... what a let down from kick ass DD
I'm along the lines of most commenters: I loved Strike Witches, loving (still watching) ToraDora and Hyakko. But those are almost all the titles I watched in 2008. Other than that, I'm in the middle of Hidamari Sketch x365, and the only one I dropped was Chaos Head. Oh yeah, I'm also watching Gah Rei Zero and Kannagi is next on the line. :D
Favorite: Kannagi Don't worry Danny, I dropped Hyakko as well :D
Favorite for now is Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Others is: Clannad, Toradora, Garei-Zero, LuckyStar, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu Sry but im not really up to date with the new cause no money and downloading takes some time.
Favorites from 2008: Macross Frontier - I'm totally biased on this and have my blinders on for whatever misgivings the show may have. The original series is what got me hooked on anime to begin with. awesome OST's Ga-Rei Zero - First and second episodes made me wonder wtf was going on, glad I stuck till the 3rd episode. Kara no Kyoukai - just go see it. Toradora - Minori ftw! True Tears - short and sweet. Kaiba - very very underrated IMO. Entertaining enough to follow: Hyakko - can't quite put my finger on why I like this show. Geass R2 - it really sputtered towards the end. Kannagi - I stuck through the whole series... but the last episodes felt lacking to me. Couldn't quite get into: Clannad - there's always one show that everyone raves about yet I find boring (puts flame suit on) ef a tale of melodies - only because "memories" was so good... might have set the bar a bit too high. Nodame - Only because the dorama was so much better.
PuGZiRRa! msg me whoorida at gmail Sorry to threadjack, please continue
I guess the only anime I enjoyed in 2008 would be Chi's Sweet Home...but I think that was made in 2007, hehe. Honestly, there hasn't been any decent anime for me in '08, with the exception of Gundam 00... Clannad is the only series I couldn't get into. 2009 will be much better with the new FMA.
why give up on Toradora? oh men~ the story is great and the character, uhmm..so ok... well that's cool...XD
