Had a good giggle with this one. Harmful mouse eh? Original text from WiseFreeman below. As shown above, anyone face the same issue before? In response to Definition of Windows Vista
LOL Thanks Torvals for Linux^^
Agree with you :D
YEAH!!!!! HAHAHAHA!
I'm actually wondering how many users use linux. I was planning to switch to it cuz my friend uses it for coding, but other than that i don't know how it operates.
I'm not using linux at home but I use it quite a lot at uni. The good part is that you can get so much nice software for free and it's a system designed by programmers for programmers. Basically it's so easy to get a brilliant compiler (GCC) for free and it's quite easy to use once you get to know it. There is also quite a lot of editors with all options for code highlighting and stuff like that. Or did you mean how you can use it for something else than coding? I would think you should go to ubuntu's homepage or something to read up on that issue. It's way easier to explain with screenshots and stuff. I'm using mac but since it's based on Unix it has some of the good stuff from linux if you open the terminal. I tend to open it when booting and not closing it until I shut down ^^
Just don't use Vista for dev work. After a week of portlet development, I managed ten BSOD full of Kernel panic dumps. Fortunately I had my old XP license handy. If that goes BSOD too, then it's back to RedHat (0ld sk00l l33t)
As a well seasoned Linux user, I don't find Windows to be very useful to me when I'm trying to get things done. Now that I'm used to using Linux, it's hard to think in terms of the Windows world. I think it takes a long time before Linux "makes sense" though. I went through years of playing with it off and on, learning how things work and what breaks when you do things that you're not supposed to do. I suppose that there's less that a user needs to know in modern systems than when I was first toying with it, but an in depth knowledge of how stuff works is still vital to really making use of the OS. That is to say, it's really not very useful unless you're already a Linux/Unix geek. Sounds a bit redundant, no? Learning the fundamentals, like the file structure and how to work with files is extremely important. Unlike a windows world where a person would find some program to do a task or use a GUI, the Linux world benefits from having small components of functionality broken up into various programs that are useful when put together in certain ways. Most of the nice GUI things you'll see in a modern Linux desktop are just facades for operations available in the command line, and this fact is very useful when those GUI elements behave badly (which is quite common). Linux/Unix is an extremely simple system that builds upon itself to make something quite beautiful. It's no simple task to become a master of its tools, but it's very rewarding when you can use it confidently. And when you do, not even the bits in OS X are as good as having a full X11 based Linux (or other Unix) desktop in front of you. However, that's subject to a flame war I'm not interested in participating in considering I just booted OS X to make sure everything's okay with its install on my machine! ^_^
Does it ask permission for keyboards too?
no, but you have to press F1 to continue booting if it's missing XD
Wait... How do you press F1 if you don't have the keyboard.
With pure willpower, you can accomplish anything!
The actual error message is "Error: No keyboard detected. Press F1 to continue". I just tried to google for it, but nobody posted a picture of it. I have seen it happen though. It's part of the hardware (bios?) that it checks for stuff before starting the actual boot process. I read about a guy who reversed engineered the error messages and found an error about missing CPU. He never figured out how it would be able to display it though (factory debug?). I think the point is that code in hardware is quite simple so it lacks a special case for missing keyboard and that you need to press F1 (I think F5 and F10 have been used too) to bypass any error.
actually it happens with a laptop with a secondary keyboard. A friend got his Logitech Alto stand with keyboard, had to fix OS and next thing we knew it was looking for a keyboard when we had *two*
I have Pissta, sorry Vista on my iMac. Sometimes it gives me this with my keyboard. I always end up returning to Leopard to get my keyboard back.
lol!!! Vista is silly
I'm on a mac. Just switched this year, becoz of the release of Vista lol.
I'm using linux ubuntu. I started using it when I first saw vista.
LOLWUT! Luckily we have keyboard to select OK..
Just switched to Mac and loving it~!
I'm using XP as of now, and won't get vista but skip straight to Windows 7... after SP1.
why is it depressing me that I got a kick in the butt being forced to buy laptops with vista in in and windows 7 is now up and coming. SHEESH. Technology's half-life is exponentially bad. or is it my country that's lagging? or is vista the mistake that was previously Windows ME?
moar like FAILSTA guh, at least Win7 beta is ALOT better anyone else play around with the beta?
Using Vista for two years with no problems at all. It's more intuitive than XP (which requires some relearning), but still feels like a Windows OS. Wouldn't want to upgrade my old ME and XP machines though. Got a lot of crap on those that wouldn't like change.
Just disable UAC...
windows has been banned for life from my house
I'm on windows vista. Usually I'd gripe about it, but it was able to stop that macrovision program from installing when watching Geneon dvds. It pops up under "enhanced media" on almost all their disks recently. At least it asks and doesn't autorun (though I heard you can turn autorun off on older systems).
I use both Linux and Windows XP, though due to my poor support of my EMU1212M sound card (which I use for recording) I usually use XP. It's Creative's fault though... not the helpful community of Linux people that put together distros like Ubuntu.
Yup that's vista allright. I had a funny one in XP too though: it said something like "an error has occured in the error-configuration"....
Hasta la vista !
I'm using both Linux and Vista. I'm not a linux or vista lover. Each one has is own pro and cons for example graphic drivers and fansubs are "pain in the ass" on linux and installation are long and boring on Windows. I don't really care about "libre" as long as I have what I need with money I have. But I don't like Mac because they are high price and they don't have what I need.
Quite agree. Although binary drivers do prove a lot easier than the open-source ones. It's getting there though. New xf86-video-ati from git has dri support and is almost as good as/better than the official binary one. I think fansubbing is easier. I love subtitleeditor, especially with the waveform view. However, I've only really used Substation Alpha on Windows, so I might be a bit bias.
Yes, if you are referring to the animal that is. :X
My desktop operates on XP while laptop vista. Seriously, i hate vista. =.= Every single time needs permission, which make it silly.
ofcourse you can turn it (UAC) off, but 90% of Vista users who got Vista forced upon them when they bought a new laptop/PC wouldn't know how..
That is just how it was for me lol. My PC has XP, but the laptop has vista. Didn't know you could turn that off, but i assumed there was a way i just never looked into since i rarely use the laptop.
First thing I did on my Windows Vista computer is turning off UAC. ^^ I do wonder how 'different' Windows 7 really is, it being here that fast after Vista -which undoubtebly gave Microsoft very bad publicity- makes me suspect Windows 7 might be a bit of a repack/rebrand. I'd first like to see some good impartial research and review on it to see how different it really is from Vista. Next to Windows Vista on Motoko-chan, I use Mandriva Linux (2009 Gnome version) on Akari-chan (from which I'm currently writing). Mandriva Linux has been nice so far, challening though and not perfect (yet), but neither is Windows. Tempted to go for an Apple next hardware cycle though.
vista is ridiculous, XP still rocks!
I use Vista and somehow I don't see the problem for permissions. I got the hang of it so no problems ^_^
lol, that's stupid. I'm not switching to vista ever unless there's a damn good reason for me to do so. So far, there isn't.
I use Vista and I'm pretty fine with it. The UAC was never a problem for me... I honestly don't see what all the Vista hate is about. Granted, it's far from perfect, but for everyday tasks it's not like it's a bag of fail.
I'm currently using XP for my PC don't really want to change it to Vista because I heard a lots of my friends said it was bad and not user friendly.
Photoshopped... Loving Vista now. But would gladly switch to a Mac if I can.
Nope, it's not photoshopped, if you are referring to the dropped pixel surrounding the word "Mouse", that's mainly because when I save as JPEG in MS PAINT, the color-bit quality drop, thus that pixel standout from the "Mouse" word.
i'm using 64 bit version of xp. my next os will be windows 7 64bit os most probably.
LOL!!! Vista is really a hoot and a holler^^
LOL! Extreme Security for VISTA ^^;
LOL, nice one:P In Windows 7 they will improve the UAC as I have witnessed myself, so hopefully in the future one can understand that it is that need the elevated privileges.
Still on XP on all my machines, do have Vista running on my 2nd rig but never use it. UAC is the most useless/annoying standard feature ever implemented in Windows IMO ;(
why would any sane person use Vista... MS is gonna die
VISTA X64 ULTIMATE User since the launch... best OS for my needs atm. Doesn't Mac OS ask for permisssion too? You even have to type the password there!
Yes, Mac OS X does ask since it built on the mother of all OSs UNIX. Mac OS X will only ask when installing new a new application. Mac OS X doesn't ask you repeatedly under stupid circumstances like is your mouse or keyboard trusted.
Actually it asks every time you want to write to something you don't have write permission to. This is usually limited to system updates and installers that adds stuff to the system (like libraries). Depending on user permissions you might be able to install applications without typing a password and it will always only ask for the password once. I say the OSX permission system appears to be sane while the windows system sometimes is a bit weird... or at least I don't get the idea behind what it's doing.
That is true it depends on the user account level. I was trying to keep things simple. ^^ I always work from a user level account and not the root account so OS X ask for root level password like crazy. I'm ok with that since it is what I have alway done. When I first started to work on UNIX machines everyone worked at the user level account level. Only a fool or n00b works at the root level.
haha, hope it wasn't a real thing coz if it was, MS is so much poo when the bug starts coming around more often. "p2p (plug-to-play) devices can harm our computer? jeez Vista, YOU'RE the real harmful one!"
Make sure to check your keyboard next time you plug it in. http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/security/5a05/
Only in Vista....
On the pc I had before I gave it to my mom since I built another and didn't see the point in 5 pc's to 1 room I had vistaids on it and that did get annoying but then my friend showed me how to get rid of that annoying thing.
Thats just too much, seeing it do it for other applications. But never for the mouse, lol too funny.
lol.. i wonder is there a keyboard version
dude vista is always second guessing itself..can you do this? can i do that?
Never believe your mouse. It might collect your secret data (2D Nekkid Girls pictures) and send them to your girlfriend/boyfriend/parents etc. XD
vista here, that little glitch can be rectified by turning the user account control off in windows security centre, but hey you guys are still gonna bash MS anyway huh?
Vista x64 on my main rig, XP Pro x86 on my secondary. That's only because short of a MAJOR rebuild, the secondary rig would never be able to run Vista. It can't even run Folding@Home without failing. I've used both 64-bit XP and Vista, and Vista is the less flaky. It would be better if I had more control over it.
Vista asks you that nearly for everything, everytime you want to install/update anything. It's to stop ANY unauthorised changes to your system I surpose lol. But I have never had that come up when using my mouse for the first time on my vista, infact I don't think it's ever done that for any sort of memory stick, mouse, etc... ^_^ better safe than sorry eh?
LOL I have not seen that. Interesting But am still okay with Vista
Got a mac (90% of the software I use is available for mac, and it's unix-based, so linux-progs run too ^^), but at work it's Windows XP (no Vista there yet).
Hope that doesn't come out...
Vista-tan is fat and I have a policy of "no fat girls".
I dunno, she looks fine to me... http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/19/1193808147944copyia7.jpg
heh she looks fine and all, but lookit how exposed she is XD
Good one! Good one!
Vista, worse than a naggy teacher. XD
Wow. If they needed permission to use the mouse, then I probably return the computer and get another one. I'm not really happy with my Vista and am highly considering getting a Mac.
Hahaha! just made me laught! But I'm using Vista Ultimate 64 bits now (Ubuntu too), and for me is very usefull... at this time... We'll see, we'll see... lol
lol
I hate vista...honestly...>.<
I once encountered a window in XP telling me that new hardware had been found and I installed the driver (it was a USB device). After that it told me that another device had been found and this time it wanted the driver for "USB cable". Ok I installed it and when it was done it wanted the driver for "USB cable" and I installed it again and the device started working. I don't think I have seen anything but windows asking for a driver for the cable itself O_O
On Vista, can't afford a Mac at the moment =(
Oh Vista! What else will you do before the next release shows up? =P I personally am using XP. I don't enjoy Vista very much as well as all the RAM it hogs up.
I'm considering downgrading my laptop from vista to xp. 4gb worth of ram could run anything I want...
Yea, you computer would be so much more capable of running other things with 4GB of RAM if Vista didn't hog it up. Vista looks nice and all, but don't like the memory usage. Not very efficient.
Windows 7...
OSX
i get those bout once a month god forbid you have to click lol
What is it afraid of? The trojan mouse?
LOL!
XP ftw, but I do plan on switching to Linux eventually.
Everyone complains about the UAC, but you can easily turn it off if you just click on your account picture in your start menu. I just leave it on because a few seconds isn't going to kill me while it can save the laptop.
Hah. xD A touch screen would be extremely useful in a time like that.
LOL ...O, how I miss the good ol' days when I used windows.....NOT!!! XD
Wait, what about keyboard?
Well, I guess it's better than recompiling xf86-input-keyboard and xf86-input-mouse when you get a new xorg-server. Oh did I mention you need to add the entry to your xorg.conf first before you can use it? Well, either you do that or make sure you have the right HAL policies. Oh, by the way, you might be denied access to you mouse because you have an error while setting the permission mode in the udev policy for your mouse. But it would never tell you that. Anyway, sometimes you should be thankful you're seeing stupid dialog windows. I'm always in a love-hate relationship with linux. And a trojan mouse isn't out of the question. There's a possibility that the USB mouse you bought isn't really a mouse, but a flash drive loaded with a trojan. There's also those taps that capture keyboard strokes (just look on ThinkGeek), so a similar thing with a mouse is not out of the question. Summary: I love you, Vista.
I like vista, aside from the fact that it acts like that little kid who needs to ask permission for EVERYTHING. However I am sure this has saved many users from themselves.
lol I disabled that UAC crap the moment I installed vista!
I am using XP, and I'm glad that I didn't upgrade to Vista.
XP + A lot of tweaks to make it fast and MacOSleopard-like= WIN
XP optimized for speed doesn't sound very secure to me XD
you have never tried it? so full of win. i hope windows 7 is actually good compared to vista though, that thing is just a pile...
Another reason why I am not getting Vista
i LoLed so much of this, *nix for the win. i im using ubuntu 64 bit and works very well, also have xp but only use it for web browser compatibility check and occasional gaming
Vista to expensive and buggy, I'll stick with Xp for now
Using Vista Ultimate right now, working like a breeze. Even though late last year, I tried to use it, and had the worst OS experience of my life (coming from early versions of DOS and Basic, and having used several OSs including Linux and OSX, that means a lot). I must admit though that I only tried Vista again because I was forced to. Kinda glad I did though. Everything from performance to compatibility improved A LOT in a year... But that's my personal experience only.
LoL... That UAC thing is really annoying. I turned mine off so that it doesn't bug me everytime. Am currently using both XP and Vista. XP on my desktop and Vista on notebook.
it might be due to some hardware/ interface isue.
Like using Mac equipment with a PC
