7pm in Tokyo - Fortune Telling

(Japan(37)
Fri 2008/12/26 00:06
7pm in Tokyo watching some folks get their fortune told for them. The word for fortune telling in Japanese is "Uranai" [占い] and for some reason I notice more and more uranai parlors cropping up around Tokyo.

Personally not interested in having somebody guess my fortune.
"Your future is what you make it - so make it a good one" - name that quoter.

I do not believe in fortune telling as I agree with Danny that out future is what we make it, and surely if life was predetermined, then it would be boring
But I have had a session with a psychic at a friends house as I went round and someone had dropped out, so I didnt have to pay and thought why not...it was like the horoscopes and very vague and if you showed any interest or reaction to something then they would highlight and try probe from there asking questions rather than telling things....sceptical...hell yes I am

I believe that life is predetermined. If history is set in stone then the future is too.

So... The phrase would be 占い売らない (uranai uranai) here? "Fortunes won't sell"? I'm sorry, I'm sorry D:

Well, I believe in fate because I've been through so many big coincidences happening in a row. But I don't believe things will happen if one just sits and do nothing. It's more like something that guides events in life that one decides to take part in.

No interest in fortune telling, here. I am the master of my destiny.

And it's Back to the Future III. That series is one of the larger influences in my life. A little geeky, perhaps, but it was for the better.

Yea, I don't believe them either, but sometimes it's kinda fun to read horoscope as if it's good you might set your goals higher to match it.

On TV there was one program about it and there was one man speaking about this and he said "At the same time we hear our future, it changes at the very same moment because from that point we look at things differently and our inside world changes." --- I could agree to this, because few times I've read my horoscope I either want those things to happen or don't want.

These fortune teller are big faker they just guess what might happen and those prediction are obvious things in life. The Chinese in my country believe in these sort of fortune telling but to me it's all lies.

We are the master of our own future, we make it happen, we are in control not them. I make my own future!

if palm reading is a sort of fortune telling it is amazingly more than 50% accurate here. i dont believe in such things but when some one you dont know can tell you something which only you and your family members know by looking at the palm only and in a span of just 5-10 mins it raises some eyebrows.

some guys are so good they can see well into the future of the person they read the palm of. My personal experiences is that such people usually filter out the bad news and give only a few good news. they usually dont tell everything. and those who do tell the bad news, it does come true o^O. (no matter how hard you try to avoid it)

so there are things that are not known to science yet.

I think your future is a combination of what happens and what you make happen. You aren't in complete control, but you can influence events to make a different outcome, just hard to tell how different things will turn out in the end because of it.

I feel we are in control, to some degree, of our destiny. I also believe in synchronicity as well. An idea thought up by Carl G. Jung. It is a fascinating idea.

I've had palm and tarot readings. The palm reading was the most (scarily so) accurate. It's been ages ago and I remain somewhat skeptical even now. Wouldn't mind going to another one again someday but I think it's a waste of money, a real reading shouldn't need money

I haven't been to one, but I'm sure it would be amusing to have one done. It's not that they are accurate, they are pretty general and make it so that it sounds accurate to you. Maybe I'll try one when I come to Japan.
