Classifieds Open

The new Classifieds section is up. There are many DC readers from around za warudo and I notice that many of you live in each others neighborhood.

My vision for the classifieds is for you to exchange, sell, request items or meet up with each other. Not sure how popular this section will be but have a few reasons for thinking why it may work.

Through personal experience at Amazon, classifieds work well in circles of trust. The most popular internal mailing lists where the "forsale" and "wanted" ones ^^; They used these lists to sell anything and everything like...

- Got some tickets for the game tonight and cant go - yours for xxx dollars.
- Am moving house and need some cardboard boxes.
- Just moved in town and need some cheap furniture.
- Got an LCD monitor up for grabs - 120 USD.
- Having a game of softball tonight by the International district. Join us at 5 if you can make it.

Classifieds worked well because everybody was all part of a group with something in common - they were all employees of Amazon.

At DC, you get to know other members and build trust with them. You can click on a members name to see their previous comments, news items and puchi blurbs - use this information to judge how much trust you want to put into that member before deciding to buy from or meet with them.

There is no member to member communication functionality yet at DC but will be in the future. For the time being, I recommend leaving a link to a social network that you are a member of. For example, I posted earlier my vader armor for sale and asked for members to contact me through my facebook account. This way I can see who wants to buy from me and check out more info about them by looking at their Facebook profile.
Alternatively you can ask people to contact you through a form or details at your burogu.

I dont recommend you leaving an email address but you may want to do so if you have an email for general spam.

Here are the some rules and particulars

- Only members who have uploading permissions can use the classifieds.
- If you run a retail store, do not use the classifieds to publicize your goods or services.
- Dont flood the classifieds - give your fellow comrades a chance.
- You must categorize your post under "classifieds" from the select menu in the uploader. Failure to do so will result in deletion of your post and further failures will result in being nuked (shorry).
- If your item is sold or request fulfilled, change the title or contents to let others know - no need to delete.
- Classifieds do not show up in the Member News widget on the top page - they show up below as shown in the screenshot.
- I cant take responsibility for any transactions that lead to fraud or death. By using the uploader or engaging in a transaction, you agree that you are responsible for the results. Having said that, please be careful and use good judgement regarding who you trust.
- Ah, and don't forget to mention which area you are located in.
- Dont sell firearms, narcotics, used skiddy pantsu (used bra is fine), yourself or other live animals/humans.

Will be interesting to see how popular/unpopular this feature will be.

Sell or swap your unwanted figures/otaku goodies, sell the Dollfie outfits that you make in your spare time, meet up with folks in your region. Your unwanted rubbish is another persons treasure. Get rid of the stuff you dont want so that you can find the stuff that you do want. Sell the stuff that you dont want and use the money to buy the stuff that you do want. Life is short, dont waste it on stuff that just gets in your way.
Enrich your life by meeting others with similar interests.

:P I prefer non-edited comments to tell the truth. Edited news items already make it hard to follow the thread sometimes - edited comments introduce a whole new element that can be hard to follow.

If we really must have edited comments, I say that only those that have been not been replied to can be edited. ^^

(As for Classifieds: this seems useful, particularly for those of us in Toronto since we're just starting to meet up)

nice feature. expect a sharp rise in people signing up to sell unrelated stuff here. i mean the one post wonders where people just sign up to post in classifieds section and then disappear.
OR
hopefully there is post count set like 50-100 posts and being member for 1 -2 months to post in classifieds? or it might be the same for posting in member sections.

Danny, I have some suggestion for you.

First, since your blog will become a trade or buying and selling site, you must put a tight regulation for this.

Second, to avoid flooding, at least you must limit the post. For example, only allowed to post 3 item. If member want to post another, he/she must delete on the his/he previous post.

Third, give the post a duration. For example, every post will valid for one month. After that it will expired and member need to repost.

Fourth, create the "sold out" button for member to use if the item is already sold. Create "reserved" button for member to use if member already agree about trading item or member already got contact from other member about his/her request ot offer.
