We've covered a load of topics at dccom but don't think we've covered the what-are-your-most-frequently-visited-sites topic. I ask because I've been spending the last few hours going though dccom usability data.
Here are a few observations that I can share with you now:-
- News Items get as many or more hits than Articles which was not the case before the...
1. Merge of the he Article and News Item RSS feed
2. Portal redesign
- About 25% of RSS feed readers actually click through to the site.
- Firefox users is at 60% while IE is at 22% (IE 6/7 combined). A note to IE users that I've turned some functionality off for IE due to CSS bugs. Firefox users get the full experience.
- The most popular page is the top index page and the second most popular page is the paginated news items for all members > http://www.dannychoo.com/basedir/mac/eng/image/category/everything/mirai/0000/00/0.html
- dannychoo.com has nearly a million pages indexed in Googles search index as of today (fluctuates)
- 30% of users come from search engine results. 30% is the norm as I observed when I worked at Amazon and Microsoft. If you have more than 30% of your users coming from search then I would advise to work with folks who run sites with content similar to yours. Users from those sites are more likely to be converted than a user from a search engine.
Relying too much on a search engine is bad - just imagine you got banned from Googles index for some reason. This recently happened to somebody I know...
-Hmmm. Just realized that I got more to share but would probably make sense to spread it out a bit.
As for the sites that I frequently visit include...
http://www.ted.com/
http://www.tuaw.com/
http://10be.blog.so-net.ne.jp/
http://knroom.blog102.fc2.com/
http://katejina.sblo.jp/
http://akibahobby.net/
http://www.akibaos.com/
http://blog.livedoor.jp/dqnplus/
http://www.smashingmagazine.com/
http://lifehacker.com/
http://www.foobarbaz.jp/
http://akibamap.info/
http://www.moeyo.com/
http://blog.livedoor.jp/geek/
And all sites registered at http://www.otaku.fm/
Do try to watch some videos on http://www.ted.com/- you will start to see life differently.
Have been thinking of merging News Items and Articles in a view similar to http://kotaku.com/ but not sure what you thought about that.
Would be great to learn what sites you frequently visit as it would help me with the usability design tweaks that I am planning now. It would help other members discover new content too.

Animesuki for new releases.... still waiting on Kannagi 12... :sulk: DannyChoo is my homepage, so I dont ever have to go through my rss feed lol. I almost always have a tab for DC up.
GAH I LOST MY COMMENT B4 POSTING IT T______T just off the top of my head...(not in any particular order) 4chan.org - /a/d/c/e/g/h/p/u/x sankakucomplex.com gizmodo.com.au bakaupdates fakku.net i guess that's just the tip of the iceberg there are too many i keep bookmarked and i don't want to paste a tl;dr comment
ok, just ignore this one my browser sorta crashed on me just then - thought comment was lost
Looking at all the websites makes me realise I hardly visit a lot of websites. For me on a daily basis it's DC.com hotmail.com gmail.com sankaku animecouncil (mainly for forums and the people) other forums kotaku.com
SABER BIGGIE!!! Same with lerry and the replies in that post. Sankaku, Moetron then add NicoD.
i have a list at my blog for convenience. And a hell lotta sites in my bookmarks! Frequented favourites from my list would be: News & Info: - 2ch - Akihabara Channel - Anime News Network - AniDB.net - Baka-Updates Manga - dannychoo.com Music: - Gendou's Music - Galbadia Hotel Art & Graphics: - 4chan (& other image boards) - Anime Paper and blogs like Sankaku, Moetron etc.
I keep permanent Firefox tabs with Danny Choo and Sankaku Complex open... Writing news posts for Sankaku requires me to check a fairly huge list of Japanese anime/figure related websites, so it's not really possible to make a full list here... A few of the bigger ones are: http://www.moeyo.com/ http://www.earlbox.com/ http://www.saiani.net/ I'm sure Artefact would like to see all the mentions of Sankaku here, thanks guys.
Huge Saber is huge. Did I mention she makes me squeal on the inside? And that I'm envious? >_> My top sites recently are: 1. Dannychoo.com/otaku.fm (indeed only recently, but hey.) 2. Anime BT trackers (Tokyotosho, Animesuki, Bakaupdates 3. YouTube 4. 4chan (various boards. :p) 5. Sankaku 6. Forums of games I'm interested in (egosoft.de fl-tw.com) 7. Danbooru And somewhere inbetween there now is my own blog that I started recently.
Birds of the feather flock together eh? The sites we visit are all rather similar.
I would write down a list of site I go to daily, but it's kinda long and a lot it is in Chinese. If people are really interested could ask me directly. Any how, Saber is so huge!!! I would love to have it, but it's really too expensive for me. I could be just me, but fate chan is in Saber Lily dress~ Saber is in fate "battle suit". (I properly got the name wrong.) Also please take extra note with the size different between Figma Saber and Dollfie Saber.. I'm drooling so much that I can't continue typing this message.
I check all these sites daily, sometimes many times during the day: mail: gmail hotmail news: http://slashdot.org/ http://kotaku.com/ http://digg.com/ http://www.japanprobe.com/ http://webbalert.com/2008/12/post-3.html anime downloads: http://www.narutofan.com/ (only on Thursdays) http://www.fansub.tv/ http://www.ani-haven.net/ games: http://www.ogame.org/ networking: http://www.myspace.com/ http://www.facebook.com/index.php? otaku sites: http://www.sankakucomplex.com/ http://www.dannychoo.com/ misc (don't check daily) http://www.savagechickens.com/ http://www.newegg.com/ http://dvice.com/index.php http://www.pandora.com/

Though I read both, the articles tend to be longer and are different from the news, and I like it better when they're clearly seperateed this way.

Then comes the web-comics (lots of them), 3D oriented forums, MacrossWorld forum and finally some assorted blogs/forums. But the sites a visit/browse most through the day are MacrossWorld forum and DeviantArt.
Oh and here too http://www.mimf.com/ although not as much as I use to. I have some essays on Electric Double bass building floating around the Library for the terminally board :)

Saber chan looks amazing! ^O^! as for site I frequent, I actually frequent my flickr's contact's list a lot to check on my friend's new pictures ^^; previously I used to frequent some doll related forums but it got too much to catch up with everything everyday lol I visit DC everyday (Or at least when ever I can) because I like the graphic rich content :P

I never go to news sites like Moetron because I'm already subscribed, so I guess mine would be DC, Sankaku, GameFAQs, and MAL. I keep track of blogs through RSS subscriptions so even though I read a few sites pretty often I never actually visit unless I know there's something new.
Saber!!!!,really, really cute!!! Animetake Hongfire Yahoomail Dannychoo Gelbooru Wiki Gmail.......
While I used bot Opera and Firefox, something I love about Opera is the 'Speed Dial'. When you open a new tab or have a blank tab is shows 9 sites on speed dial buttons, you can just click and it will open in the tab, saves the trouble of going into your bookmarks or starting to type the url. A handy feature I like and have my daily sites programmed into. The sites I frequently visit are: - http://www.e-shuushuu.net (anime image board) - http://moe.imouto.org/post (anime image board) - http://tokyotosho.com - http://www.dannychoo.com - http://myanimelist.net/ - http://forum.mandriva.com/ (forum for Mandriva Linux) - http://www.hardware.info (computer stuff) - http://www.tones.be (computer stuff) And of course the niftiest site, Google!
There is a speed dial plugin for Firefox, https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4810, which mimics the behavior of the Opera feature. I use it all the time and love it.
Sankaku Complex, Flickr, the Pinky:st forum. and here. As well as some figure blogs.
Sites I visit other than here are..... http://xlhaseolx.deviantart.com/ http://www.mangashare.com/ http://www.gametrailers.com/index.php? http://www.escapistmagazine.com/ http://otakudan.com/ http://gendou.com/ http://www.animecrazy.net/

I think I'm part of that 25% who RSS the site and then browse through it ^^I I then save the articles I liked or learned something from in Thunderbird for later reading. TED is pretty awesome it seems. A friend showed it to me a little back, but never really had the chance to check it out. Hopefully I'll get more time to do that this winter break.
