Sankaku Complex has a post up about disproportinate anime and manga characters (NSFW) which brought me to wonder whats the worst quality anime you have set eyes on? Death Note got quite appalling at times and so did Speed Grapher. Enjoyed the Speed Grapher story though and continued watching to the end. Cant remember which EP (4?) but there was one incredibly unforgivable ep of Guren Lagann. Polyphonica looked quite bad too... Image from Sankaku.

I heard that they had a guest animation director for that episode. I didn't like the style though, but what bothered me more was the inconsistency. :[

It was indeed a guest director that worked on episode 4. That episode was responsible for the fallout after a Gainax original co-founder complained about the ordeal and ended up having to leave Gainax, as well.

I didn't like the episode too, mostly because it completely differentiated from the quality every episode had set. Yet, I think the same director did one of my other favorite anime (BECK), but since the entire series was like it and the story was still pretty damn good, I didn't mind. Only when one episode is horrible and the rest are great or bad with no good story do I get ticked off.

lol first of all let me say that that is on cute pic :3 thought the position and angle she is in makes it look weird Dx hmm the worst quality anime i have ever seen hmmm... that would have to be a fan sub of Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro Chan 2 the subtitles were like all over the place and was just horribly done >_< i hardly watch anime direct Japanese so when i download it is usually good quality i also use torrents so that the quality would be good ^^

Jup, Gurren Lagann was definetely terrible at one point, but I knew about it so was able to sit it through. Glad I did, because it was a great series. Don't agree with the DN stance though; I thought the animation was very good...

I tried watching the first season of initial D but thought the animation was horrible which is unfortunate because I love drift and i love anime so i had built up an image in my head of what it would be like and was bitterly dissapionted

Lamune. Absolutely dreadful, absolutely pointless and why I even watched the whole series I don't know. Other anime that I was less than impressed by were Blue Gender and Nagica Blitz Tactics. I didn't even realise the main image was Dokuro until I read D3mON's post. Looks like her top and bottom half are from two different images stuck together.

In during continuous mention of Gonzo. Episode 4 of GL had some major design "peculiarities" but the animation itself, especially during the major action sequence of that episode, as I remember, wasn't of horrible quality.

I didn't notice anything too bad about the 2nd season of Minami-ke other than the obvious color tone differences. The sisters still looked exactly identical to me except for the hair color of course (brighter colors and all). Plus it was done by 2 different companies if I am not mistaken.

Yup ep 4 was bad but the rest of Gurren Lagann was so great that I see it as a forgivable mistake. Yozakura Quartet greatly disappointed me. It wasn't due to animation quality but due to the fact that it lost a lot of the charm the manga had. I saw virtually none of the funny moments that keep the manga so enjoyable. The anime was, considering which manga it's from, way too serious.

I agree on Quartet, just the fact that so far only two of us have even mentioned the series probably means that they didn't do the manga justice. I was wondering too what it was that was missing from the anime, it just felt flat to me. Then I too realized it was missing some of the lighter moments that made you care about the main characters. It's a shame really, Quartet could have been a stellar series.

While the character designs were different than what you'd see in typical anime, the actual animation, especially during the fight scenes was actually very well done.

Polyphonica looks bad in anime standards but if American cartoonists drew it, they'd be seen as gods here since sadly, American art in most animations looks absolutely horrible, especially when they try to mimic anime.

One of the pictures in the link shows a dimensioned hallway with disproportionate girls either being a giant or floating in the air. There is another answer; the girl floating in the air who is proportionate could be standing on a box, the top of a flight of stairs, a gazeebo like platform, etc. But the point is it is meant to be a flat hallway.

The anime that I watched that bothered me the most was the first run of Kanon. Mind you, I haven't seen that many past anime series... but Kanon was quite off when I first saw it. I nearly didn't watch the second version because of that. I'm glad I did go for the second version though.

MUSASHI GUNDOH is probably the worst drawn anime I've ever seen and probably will see. It looks like it was done on flash by a high schooler, the sound is usually out of synch with the animation, and to top it off the background isn't even drawn it's usually a photograph... At least they are consistent with this horrible quality.

Though i loved the storyline of Brighter Than Dawning Blue TV Anime, some of the animation during the first few episodes were horribly animated. Not as much but stll some illustrations could have been better. You had the combination of Moe and horrible character illustrations.

Fate/Stay Night...overall animation was good, but there were quite a few scenes where quality control went out the window...the most memorable one being a scene where Saber is sitting on the floor talking...the entire time, I was staring at her eyes (optical)...one was 1.5x the size of the other... ^^;

Bad quality anime you guys say? Well i have one for you! THe worst series I"VE SEEN was back about a year ago. Remember GUNSLINGER GIRL IL TEATRINO? "Studio Artland" which aninmated the series sucked really bad. The artwork was horrendous! Characters looked ugly. Cars weren't even drawn right. Perspectives were all wrong for the backgrounds. When compared to what Madhouse Studios did for the Season 1 of Gunslinger Girl, Il Teatrino looks like complete crap. I'm sorry. I was hoping that series was going to be good. Worst anime series of 2008.

The feet were reversed (i.e. left foot on right leg, right foot on left leg)... Took me a while to figure that out, too...probably why the artist messed up...looked natural enough... ^^;

polyphonica, over all, wasnt all that great. I kept expecting more, for some reason, from the main chars. but in the end all that really went on was.. them going to work.. working.. and.. character development.. and then it all ended. TTGL wasnt boring at all imo. I think people just got used to the expressiveness that went on in the first half of the series and didnt really know what to think when it became less spuratic in the second half. and.. that ending still pisses me off to no end.. What i truly felt was god awful boring was the second half of azumanga daioh. It was cute and interesting at first then.. it became monotonous. I do realize school is damn boring, but spice it up XD. Fumoffu ftw!

I'm surprised that nobody mentioned xxxHolic, I really, really like this series very much for great characters (Yūko FTW!) and quite dark and mysterious plot but when I look at proportions of drawn people I want to cry ;(. I know that this style is characteristic for CLAMP and in actual manga it doesn't look all that bad but in anime... All characters (IF they are drawn as people not faceless silhouettes) looks like scarecrows build with long sticks. Code Geass is a fine example that CLAMP made characters CAN be pleasant to watch...

The worst I've seen has to be N.H.K. ni Youkoso (welcome to the NHK), the quality dropped lower and lower with each episode until it started to look like the animators had left the janitor to do all the work, and then he'd got bored and let his pet cat draw it instead.

I have to go with Final Fantasy Unlimited on that one. Almost every character seems misplaced because the art styles feel out of place among other characters. Kaze and Risa seem to fit in as anime characters in the series, but everything else is so weird, crappy, and cartooney-looking it made my eyes almost want to bleed.

The quality of a couple of episodes of Bleach (during the Bounto arc) was terrible. Some part of Welcome to the NHK were also noticeable, and Death Note did have some weird quality. Actually, the art of Takeshi Obata after looking at Hikaru no Go driven me away from any more of his works, but I got over it.

I have seen so much bad anime that half of my website talks about it. Among the worst, I’d say there are: Akane maniax (especially for all those who loved KGNE), Glass no kantai, Kemono zume, Beck, Legend of duo, Prayers, Red garden… For the worst ecchi I’d recommend Renkin san kyû magical Pokahn or Divergence Eve.
