7pm in Tokyo - Ramen

(Japan(117)
Wed 2008/12/17 02:53
I realize that I eat more Ramen in the Winter and think thats probably because I unconsciously want to head for something warm as I step outside ^^;
How often do you eat noodles/ramen?

Well they say its the only food for college people and I do love my ramen, so I'd say six out of seven days a week.

Never did ramen during college, but I was a "bread in toaster with Oscar Mayer deli meat" person.

I tend to eat ramen during the cold winter months.

Same here. I usually eat Sapporo Ichiban ramen everyday for breakfast or brunch. Also eat it whenever it rains or gets a bit chilly here (though the I think the coldest SD has ever been is 48*F).

I eat noodles 4 or 5 times a week, but usually only one of those will be ramen. The rest will be various other Japanese noodle dishes with prawns, chicken, and tofu. Japanese food is great but it's still a little tricky finding some of the ingredients unfortunately without ordering online.

Also, what is it with the size of prawns you get with tempura in Japan? Those things are HUGE (and very tasty). In the UK the prawns aren't even 1/4 of the size and nowhere near as nice to eat.

I can only eat cup ramen. Real ramen is nowhere around here. But well, I have cup ramen about once every two weeks.

I eat noodles also all the time when I'm outside...not at home. Seem to chose it over rice and fast food. Think its because of the soup and usually warms you up.

By ramen I assume you mean the non-instant type right? If thats the case then rarely, maybe a couple of times a month. But hey if you include the instant type then well All the damn time!

3 out of 5 times that I go out and eat noodle would be ramen.
However there isn't one restaurant that has ramen that I love so much that I try to make an effort to go eat on a weekly bases.

I eat soup in general much more frequently in the colder parts of the year. Anything from ramen to pork tea soup :) Most of my soup eating is done at home but there is one restaurant I go to for the soup. Sweet Tomatoes: http://www.souplantation.com/ should be all about the healthy salads... but for me it is about the soup :)

This looks really delicious... I'm hungry now.

To be honest, I don't really have ramen at all, since the ramen here costs a bomb to have. I think I had it once, but that's about it...

Unless you count the instant ones... or the coffee shops (local food outlets) as ramen... that's another case.

I do have to agree with netto, some places charge way too much for Ramen. Since it's not a stapled food of many countries. There is a Ramen placed in New York, which i ate at when i was in town for a couple of days for the New York anime convention. The placed was called Naruto Ramen which had a lunch specials that included Ramen and Gyoza for $8 dollars. It was delicious, and also i find it better to try restaurants during lunch hours because of their specials.

But thanks to you, I'm going to go get myself some ramen! Sadly, it's instant... -_- But I'd say that's pretty tasty all the same. ^.^ Especially with all the garlic I chuck in. :D

I've always noticed that, too. Ramen warms me up internally more than anything else, though I don't have the amount of "toppings" that you seem to have in the picture above, in my bowl. Usually just some simple beef mix or karai spices with some little veggie bits.

It looks delicious. I really want to taste the ramen, but because of my religion I cannot. I just eat udon and shoba in Hakoshoba around train station in Kawasaki. I wonder, is it really no butaniku substance in udon and shoba?

I usual am able to cook up my own ramen when i have the ingredients around. That's often when i come back from grocery shopping and am able to buy "fresh" noodles. Finding fresh made ones are hard to come by and don't last long. oh well.

I remember having a lot of ramen when I went to Hokkaido actually... not sure what's different about the style there, but they seemed to be pretty proud of it over there... o.o

I'm Korean, so I have a lot of Korean ramen. It's a lot spicier than the Japanese kinds, although it does wonders in the winter to warm you up.

I wish there were some ramen stands around. All that we have is cup noodle and that gets tiring.

But that looks really good, Danny.

While my ramen consumption has consisted on eating cup and stovetop ramen, there have been a few occassions where I have eaten some ramen at ramen places. ^^ I have had New York style ramen a few times and always order their curry ramen. ^^ I have yet to go to a few other ramen places to try it out. ^_^

Not often and not a lot because ramen places aren't that common. Shin-Sen-Gumi has some good ramen though. And I don't like buying packages because those are really bad for you although they taste good.
