7pm in Tokyo - Train rack

(Japan(67)
Tue 2008/12/16 07:44
7pm-ish - on the way home from trooping around Tokyo.
When its crowded, I would put the helmet on the baggage rack and if I cant reach the rack I would just wear it. Was told that I shouldn't wear the helmet on the carriage for security reasons though.

Nearly forgot my helmet once after leaving it on the rack once ^^;
You left anything on a train before?

I've only ever left my wallet atop a vending machine for an entire day... I remembered it on my way home and sprinted a half mile to see if it was still there... ^^; It was. :P Nothing left on a train though--I lap my bags or just carry them.

I seldom ride trains, but I do have a habit of forgetting my phone or wallet at random places :x I usually take them out of my pocket if I'm at a table and sometimes forget where I stashed them. It's so stressful trying to find them after the fact!

I don't often use trains but I've left stuff on the bus before. My handbag (luckily someone handed it it) My purse (no one handed it in) My lunch (Was still on the bus when I was going home, so I ate it for dinner instead) My umbrella (I remembered just before I got off so I ran back for it)

I left my umbrella on the train - it was a really good umbrella too. :( Solidly built, beige and dark blue. I had to resort to using a frilly red and pink one for awhile after losing it.

Ever since then I always double-check as I leave. x_x

Never left anything behind on public transport before. I'm sure the Japanese are honest enough for one to find something again at the lost property office. Well, that's what a lot of articles say anyway.

Somebody in my class forgot his bag with his computer in a train once. He realised as soon as he showed up at school and went to the office to call the railroad (this was 10 years ago, so no mobile phones and notebooks were quite expensive). The railroad didn't care and told him to check lost and found. Nothing about calling the crew on the train or anything.

Somebody found the bag and without knowing what it contained he decided to hand it in to lost and found so my classmate got it back. We told that guy not to play lotto because he had used up all his luck. 99% of the times somebody forgets something in a train here, it's lost forever.

I once learned that I had a hole in my pocket because my key went though it and all the way down the leg. I then decided to move all keys and stuff to another pocket ^^
It happened on a station, so it's somewhat train related too.

Being paranoid to a certain degree can be good. Being paranoid to a level where you stop doing stuff due to fears is a bad thing.

Public transportation is meager out here at best. There's a train station but it's not very practical and most of the trains are freight and not passenger.

In fact, we almost did on our trip to Japan...
My aunt almost forgot some stuff she had just bought in... Sunshine City I guess.

We're not used to such conveniences in Brazil... the danger of getting robbed by leaving something on a rack like that is so high, there simply isn't racks in trains. :P

I'm not actually in the train long enough to even use the racks. Besides, I feel more safe if I carry all my belongings instead. It's a very bad idea to do that here, especially if the train is overcrowded. One second it's their, the next it's gone with the wind! O_o

I guess the only thing i've lost, and it wasn't in a train, is a Sweater in Machu Picchu. The sad part is i didn't lose it, my dad did. I handed him the sweater because i was carrying a lot of stuff (a videocamera, photo camera, a tripod and a backpack). He sat somewhere and 5 minutes later he lost my sweater.

Forgot an umbrella twice. Once I left one on the train, and once I left one on the seat at the station. I saw it as my train was pulling out, and all I could do was watch it as I rode away. Didn't bother looking for it in lost property as it was a really nice big one so it would have been kept by the new owner :(

It just slipped out of my pocket.
When I was back home I was like,"Oh crap!Where the hell is my wallet?"

I left a bag containing quite important stuff on a train. Someone had turned it in - pretty honest for the UK - but it was at a station quite a long way away and I had to go and get it the following day. It contained my motorcycle gloves, and it was cold, so there was no feeling in my hands when I got home...

Haven't forgotten anything on the train really, but I almost regularly forget myself... have a habit of forgetting that I need to get off at a certain stop especially if i am doing any trip longer than an hour. Lately I have been doing trips with others so me not getting off my stop or sleeping through it has happened less often now.

I put my bag on the rack once, the train got crowded, I got pushed far from my bag, then missed my stop trying to get my bag back and get off the train. Bag is never going on the rack again. I got pretty annoyed with people on trains in Tokyo. They will run you over without an excuse me, but as soon as you need to get by they act like they are trying to block a touch down.

I usually put my satchel on the rack, even if I am seated (directly underneath it). Many trains have the heaters underneath the seat, so it would block that, and it would also take up precious standing space when the train became crowded.

Actually last summer, my family and I were on the train in Japan and my dad put his jacket up on the rack. My mom was like, "If you put it there, you're going to forget it!" And my dad was like, "Don't worry, I won't leave it." And of course, he does leave it and all of our passports and his wallet and important stuff was in the jacket so my dad was really panicking. Luckily, someone took it and brought it to the lost and found at one of the train stations and my dad was able to retrieve it.
