Retro Sanyo

Retro Sanyo
Ad for a remote controlled TV back in 1976. And this is what the remote looked liked when it first came out.
I just love these retro ads.

Ehh, the first TV my family had didn't even have one (unless my memories fail)!
I'm a bit surprised to even see that remote controllers existed back then.

Depends on how strong the currency was back then (At least an average TV was much rarer and thus way more expensive than what we can get now).
But since it was during the baby-boom period, I don't think they had to deal with money devaluation.
Yup, TV was reserved to rather prosperous families back then...

This remind of my grandfather's tv. Instead of pressing button, the control button is a metal piece that sense humans touch. So, no pressing with "click" sound but.

I remember back like 20 years ago when I had those flipping channel switch on TV itself, my big brother made me sat next to TV during the cold winter day while he sat inside the warm blankets and made me flip thru channels as I shiver in chilling air... Brings back memories T_T

Seems like something from a different world.
So much has changed in a mere period of 30+ years... And I feel like a gramps each time I see that kind of stuff. ^^;

isn't during the late 1960s, a TV is a toll to measure social status? having a remote during those days probably adds +20 on your social status lolz XDD

143000 yen is a lot even now. that's about $1380 in today's conversion rates. that's the price of a typical samsung 42-47 inch HD LCD TV.

but considering that this price is from the seventies where everything is supposed to be cheaper, that is serious money for an electronic device.

Hard for me to admit this now, but I was goofing around with my current telemote (television remote), and pretending it was a lightsabre, and I accidentally hit my cat in the eye. To this day, she's afraid of anything with buttons. :(

I think it's cool that the switch on the TV actually moves by itself, when you use the remote control ;D

Well, the first remote controls worked by using high frequency sound, not infrared. So if you had a dog, he would start barking or do something as th ears of a dog have a higher sound frequency range than humans. Hence also why humans don't hear a dog whistle.
