Ad for a remote controlled TV back in 1976. And this is what the remote looked liked when it first came out. I just love these retro ads.
damn! that remote control looks like a brick
doubles up as a weapon if a dog chases you. the girls are not bad looking as well back then
girls? they look like i don't know 30 year old ladies
i meant if i was back from that era as well - the girls would have look hot for me. =p
The girl on the middle looks like Utada Hikaru to me ^^
How the heck did that remote managed to change channels on those types of televisions XD?
Ehh, the first TV my family had didn't even have one (unless my memories fail)! I'm a bit surprised to even see that remote controllers existed back then.
was 14300 yen alot? also the girls arent bad as said above
Not sure during that time, but now is 1.00 GBP=212.018 yen
Depends on how strong the currency was back then (At least an average TV was much rarer and thus way more expensive than what we can get now). But since it was during the baby-boom period, I don't think they had to deal with money devaluation. Yup, TV was reserved to rather prosperous families back then...
This remind of my grandfather's tv. Instead of pressing button, the control button is a metal piece that sense humans touch. So, no pressing with "click" sound but.
I remember back like 20 years ago when I had those flipping channel switch on TV itself, my big brother made me sat next to TV during the cold winter day while he sat inside the warm blankets and made me flip thru channels as I shiver in chilling air... Brings back memories T_T
Seems like something from a different world. So much has changed in a mere period of 30+ years... And I feel like a gramps each time I see that kind of stuff. ^^;
isn't during the late 1960s, a TV is a toll to measure social status? having a remote during those days probably adds +20 on your social status lolz XDD
143000 yen is a lot even now. that's about $1380 in today's conversion rates. that's the price of a typical samsung 42-47 inch HD LCD TV. but considering that this price is from the seventies where everything is supposed to be cheaper, that is serious money for an electronic device.
Dont forget - Japanese people had a lot more money than us in the late 1970's !!
REOS, wages were way lower too back then!
for all you young'uns out there, this is why we sometimes call remotes "clickers", hell I still call em that. Look at that thing!!! you can kill someone with it.
Out of curiosity, what are they saying during that little jingle where they walk backwards and sit down. Its repeated a few times.
not sure but the chinese characters on the picture reads "volume.... big.medium.small"
Looks like the handle of a lightsabre.
That would have been fun to show it to nowadays' kids. "Yo sonny, I even played Darth V./Luke S. with this one!"
Hard for me to admit this now, but I was goofing around with my current telemote (television remote), and pretending it was a lightsabre, and I accidentally hit my cat in the eye. To this day, she's afraid of anything with buttons. :(
Poor cat. :|
i love the "first remote control" video (the one with kids) lol
Wow, two buttons... Amazing...
The oldest remote controller i had foa a tv a very large and with 30 or more buttons, but it worked like a charm.
woot... the wiimote of yester-years
that remote is stupid remote but its funny with new "pot vision" ohhhhhh ahhhhhhhh
The world had to go through "stupid" to get to where we are today. You have the Japanese to thank for most of today's technology. Oh yeah, don't do drugs.
I don't remember this CM. But the trio is very famous idol "Candies". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uo286QKV0Eo http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%AD%E3%83%A3%E3%83%B3%E3%83%87%E3%82%A3%E3%83%BC%E3%82%BA
huh thats interestin! Nice find!
i got to say the remote controller is one of the greatest inventions of mankind. without it, everyone will be too lazy to switch channels. lol. ('~')
I think it's cool that the switch on the TV actually moves by itself, when you use the remote control ;D Well, the first remote controls worked by using high frequency sound, not infrared. So if you had a dog, he would start barking or do something as th ears of a dog have a higher sound frequency range than humans. Hence also why humans don't hear a dog whistle.
Yup, used to use my old TV remote to scare away dogs & foxes from the back yard back in the day. It totally works!
That's awesome. I like the name "sanyo" for some weird reason.
Damn expensive, too. 140,000 yen in the 70s? That would be like $5,000 USD today!
that remote like lightning saber.
