Retired Figures

(Figures(207)
Tue 2008/12/02 11:01
Some figures ready to be retired. Was going to send them out to readers but would prefer to get my sponsors to send you new ones instead in the giveaways.
My wife loves getting rid of stuff at flea markets in Tokyo - not for the money but for the fun of it. These will probably line up at the next one.
Dont keep boxes due to lack of space though.

What do you do with your unwanted figures?

Me neither, but I'd love to have one of Danny's old ones (it would be really awesome if he signed it)! Is that Mikuru I see in the middle?

You're right, this Figma Konata figure is really rare and cost an arm and a leg on auctions websites!

But the price will be more or less if you still have all the accessories or not...

Unwanted figures? What that?

Seriously though, since a large number of my figures are hard to find these days (Ignis the white & red, Alter Exelica & KOSMOS, Shuraki series, etc) I think I can get a decent price for them. Or I could sell some of me resin kits and probably make a killing, but I wouldn't part with any of those.
I'm just not the kind of guy to get rid of stuff. I even have my old SNES and Megadrive, still in working order too!

I try to get rid of, even if I have to give them as gifts is just annoying having something you don't like in your room and also more space for new ones ^^;

I don't mind to get some of those XD the way I see it you could make easier contests so people non skilled with this sort of stuff like me can get freebies once in life ^^

I have a Kouran figurine I don't display in my room. Why? It can't stay upright. I may want to give it away. I don't have the box or the omake with it sadly.

I also have a Nakoruru figurine. Unfortunately, her bow fell off. (I hope I can find that bow.) Oh and she can stay up a bit better than Kouran, but she is still wobbly. Can't find the box either.

Oh. I may give them away if any of you people don't have a good Christmas. Anyone interested?

WHAT? Your retiring Figma Konata Limited edition???? I would buy that from you before you take it to the flea market and sell it.

I have about 5 figures retired and ready to give away or sell. One is unknown and i wanna get rid of my Clayz He Is My Master figures, all 3 of them; Mitsuki, Izumi & Anna & my To Heart 2 AD Chie Yoshioka by Kotobukiya.

Hard to hate a figure when you have a few of them and agonizingly debated over getting each one. :P

Still, I was wondering what you would do eventually - what with all the leftover stuff that you don't display and the SAFS that come through your door.

Usually, I only buy figure of characters I'm very fond of. I'll have the occasional impulsive buy, but that would only happened if I really liked the style of the figure. So for the most part, I don't have that many figures I get rid of. Gunpla however, is another matter... I love building them and my room usually ends up being filled quickly with sprues and boxes. At which point I have to start throwing out boxes and such. Even for those, it's hard for me to do. I just love the artwork on them... ^^;

It's a sad day when figures get retired from one's collection. It's even much more when a Figma Konata is marked as unwanted. I receive my Wonderfest Konata last week. I don't think I will ever let her go. Looking into her face places a smile on my face.

Yes, I did take her out of her box, but she is held in a small plastic display case.

I concur~ Konata getting retired~? I don't even have that yet xD
It's like an airline company retiring an Airbus A320~ anyways personal preferences~ =)

As for me, the only unwanted figures i have are the Konami Haruhi and the Metamo Tsuruya~ If i have funds, i'll replace them with better Figures versions~

My retired figures were either too old or had went to storage in favour of the newer ones. Space is a concern in my room~ Even though my collection is small, I already had a figurine "boneyard"~ :) Boneyard as in storage and restoration place. I had kept them in boxes~~

To me it seems crazy getting rid of some of those, but you have some many i'm sure your perspective is quite different.

If you ever do want to sell the figurines, Danny-sama, how much would you sell them for and would you put them on eBay? Another idea is that you can use the figurine sales for fundraisers for Japanese charities of your choice.

Danny, i really don't mind if you give away "old" or "unwanted" figures to me.. xDD

Seriously, why you don't put them on ebay? Or some kind of auction to the community? (who reads DC). I think that a lot of people (seen in all this comments) will be more than happy to receive figures used/without boxes. Zero no tsukaima, nadesico, creator's labo, lucky star, etc.. such a nice figures, deserve a nice home.. ;D

I can't say that I ever fully "retire" figures. I tend to keep the boxes, so some stay on permanent display whilst the ones I'm less fond of go on rotation. Currently in the process of putting away the winter collection (leaners) and bringing out the summer (non-leaners).

Flea markets are always fun. Often full of a lot of junk, but there are some great bits and pieces to be found.

Soooo.... about that Yurika figure... =P

I use to live in Canada, whereas I now live in HK, and am beginning to think it's also a location/space thing... Doesn't really help that it's a lot easier to get figs here than back in Canada either... I've probably got 2-3 drawers filled with either nendroids(mostly in their boxes, as I worry I'll scratch them up~), and figures whom's display space I'm looking to vacate so I can get new figs...

Given DC's note about giving them away, and my own scenario with figs... Maybe I should try setting a give-away of my own? lol

To date, I have two figurines: Max Factory Haruhi Suzumiya and Bandai's Metamo Haruhi Suzumiya (Ver. 1.5). There are two or three others I want atop of that.

The other figures, however, were either thrown away or sold to friends. Whatever they do with them is up to them. XP

The only unwanted figures I have are those gashapon figures I have. But then again I may not have the heart to sell/give/throw them away someday (except for a couple of fake figures that I really want to dispose of).

It's the same with my Lego bricks. I have a ton of them stored in boxes and I won't give them away even if you pay me 500,000 USD! I might be willing to sell them for 1,000,000 USD though XD

I guess I have 1 unwanted figure, but I got it for my birthday from my little brother. It's a pretty bad american Alucard (hellsing) "action" figure of which only the arms can move up or down. You can't really point them forward with the guns in hand or he'll fall over and didn't even come with the hat and sunglasses.
So then I went and placed Alucard's big black gun in the hands of a little cheap Batou figure, it turned out to be the same scale, which now looks even cooler! (guess alucard was useful after all)
Danny why oh why would you get rid of that Creator's Labo Mine Blue PVC (girl with blue sneakers), I was thinking of buying that since the design of the girl and her vehicle look very interesting.
I have a thing for girls on wheels, biker-moe?

NO NOT THAT KONATA FIGMA!

I wish I could take that off your hands.

I'm actually scared to have retired figures...since what I collect are mostly toys to me than display figures. I'm probably never going to retire my collection

I usually don't retire figures, but then again, I doubt my collection is as big as yours. And Pec Shampoo getting retired??? awwwwwww, I wanted that figure a while back and it was discountinued sigh. Anyway if I retire figures sometime, I guess to me it depends on the condition of the figure. If it's broken or missing some parts or the like, I think I would probable just throw them in the trash or something -_-. But I usually dont. Still have my very first figure I bought at local Suncoast heheh. Mizuho in bikini, it's kinda worn out now, but I love her so much, I still keep it ^^.

I've been collecting figures of all sorts for about 14 years now and I still have all the original boxes and most are -in- the boxes. It would make me sad to have to throw out the boxes... why? I don't know. Compulsion I suppose.

I think you should still give away the older ones. I'm sure most readers would be pleasantly happy with them. I know I would XD.

I have had several that I didn't want, but fortunately I had some friends who did, so I gave them to my friends. I don't really have enough space to keep them all, and I don't really mind passing them on to people who will appreciate them more.

As for boxes, I have to be strict with myself and recycle them, rather than keep them.

Danny, I'd like to tell you a story of when I was a boy.
I never had the popular transformers. I didn't own an Optimus or an Ironhide or a Soundwave, but I did have a Sunstreaker and a Starscream and dammit if they weren't the best toys I'd ever owned. I loved them like nothing else. However, as I grew as boys do, I moved on to bigger, better and inevitably more explosive things. My transformers toys were cast back into the dark recesses of my closet as I set out unto the world with a pack of cheap plastic soldiers and some 80-cent lighters (Fireworks were hard to come by, so I took to setting fire to plastic lighters and waiting for the explosive decompression). Alas, as time went by, I soon grew tired of the same little green puddles of little green men. I once again longed for the toys that were worth something, the toys that meant something, the toys that warranted taking care of. I still remember the intense feelings of anxiety and anticipation as I rushed home to open that little plastic box of transformers long-since forgotten. "Oh, what nostalgia, what glorious memories must be lying in wait for me?!"

... and I still remember that crushing feeling of disappointment, defeat and regret, as I opened that little, white, plastic box, and found my old piano books. The transformers, the ninja turtles, even the lame batman toys, they were all gone. My mother had thrown them out, but I could only feel that I was to blame for the years (err... might've only been months. A month feels like a really long time when you're a kid) of neglect and banishment.

I haven't retired a single toy or figure since, from the Dragonball Z figures in 7th grade, to my first Gundam model kit, to the Final Fantasy figures of my teen years. Years from now, I hope I'll still be able to look back upon my Yuki Nagato Figma with the same passion and enthusiasm I felt when I first laid my hands upon her package... err, her box... err, that just doesn't sound right no matter how I say it, but you get the idea.

There's a lesson to be learned here, Danny. Even though you may lose interest in some of your figures, they may still hold a tiny place in your heart. Also, don't live in neighborhoods where convenience store clerks will sell lighters to 10-year-olds.

P.S. Sorry for the wall of text, especially on a post you made so long ago, but I hope you will read this and end your figure-retiring ways.
