Shopping in Japan

Mamamia. I think this is the most loot I've seen from a single trip to Japan.
I have pics of my loots from when I first visited Japan 15-ish years ago but they are at my mums place back in the UK - will dig them up when I get back there for a trip.

Back then my loot consisted of VHS idol tapes, gravure photo books, games for the PC Engine and music CDS.

Original text from Adun below.
Finally got around to sorting through some photos of the merchandise I bought in my Japan trip back in August. Here is a glimpse of everything but for more details check out Part 1 on my blog.

Why go to Japan personally if you only ended up shipping the items like a normal online store... ?? ^^;

Well, yeah.. who needs reason to go to Japan anyway... I want to go there again too... I can't believe i walked past Akihabara without doing anything!! Back then i only knew Akiba as the place to go for electronics... never knew what's goin on under the surface... lol.

Anyway, nice loot!

I would think there's more available in Japan and possibly at a lower price than purchasing from an online store. Plus going to Japan is not only about buying things.

Oh I see. Unfortunately we'd have a hard time doing this in Canada as Canadian customs are crafty, and obtain records of any shipments of parcels from foreign countries while you're away. They'll ding you at customs clearance when you return to the country.

customs here (and I assume in other countries too) aren't stupid. nearly every ebayer sends their stuff as 'gift' and lower the value. but if they catch you, they will want to see your receipt.

in most countries you need to fill in declaration form too, when you send things to another country.

I know you get a certain amount of purchase duty free when you go on a trip. Can that be applied to things you ship back from that trip because you are unable to take it with you on a plane? I know it sounds odd but technically it is stuff you bought on that trip.

i personally think that's like "WUT?!" Nendos are supposed to be fun because you can interchange their poses/expressions when you're bored but having 6 of them displayed in front of you with all the different poses/expressions... i can't really derive the pleasure from that, haha.

noticed a lot of people didn't even read your blog about how you sent back 5 and a half boxes worth of stuff, especially with the Jumbo grade Zeta taking up one whole box. nice that the guy at the postal got to know you well. hehe. you should've asked for his contact and maybe in future, if he's also into collecting, he can ship over to you at cheaper prices.

pity you didn't find any 2nd-hand anime shops, though you DID find K-books (i love that place). you probably would've bought a lot more if you did since the stuff are 20-40% cheaper in those shops.

That's alot of stuff to carry. My custom will just rip me for money if the see that. Oh, another way to survive from custom is, if you bring your friend and ask your friend to carry some of your stuff, that will reduce the tax. For example you buy two item worth of 100 dollar, but let your friend to bring one, then the value will be 50 each XD. Also don't forget to buy two ticket with printed your name and your friend name, dont buy it two ticket with the same name.

Just to answer a few questions that people have raised.

EMS Shipment was chosen due to the large quantity of goods I bought. Plus with EMS it's traceable and secure. What I did was simply mail off the boxes to my sister marked as gifts but with a value close to what was inside each box. This was to deter customs from being suspicious of the package and there was only two accounts where custom stopped my package, but they did not open the packages. Also I didn't get taxed on my packages since the total value was not over $1000AUD.

Those interested in how much I actually spent. I don't have exact figures but look forward to an expenditure log which will cover that.

The Hatsune Miku nendoroids are the Wonderfest edition. With it being a special item would you only stop at one? All the goods were shipped off at different dates but I did come to a point where the hotel room was becoming cluttered.

The Jumbo Grade Zeta is indeed large. Stands about 55-60cm in height. With it being in the box, it weighs close to 7 Kgs.

Look forward to Part 2. Well when I get to it.

I wonder how much it cost to bring all that stuff back considering the extra baggage charges.

That's amazing. My loot was nowhere near that when I went last summer, mainly because I wasn't able to fit much inside my luggage. I should've considered mailing it back... but that's what next summer is for. I will be on the lookout for a storm trooper too.
