Itai News have covered a news item about how the "Sandwich" method of buying ero mags is old hat and that there is a new method - the "ask for a receipt" method. The Sandwich method is where one buys ero mags and sandwiches it in between other mags such as a business or fashion mag, This has two effects:- 1. Make out that one is a man of society and also reads trendy or educational mags thus reducing embarrassment. 2. Having the ero mag sandwiched below another mag also reduces embarrassment at the counter. The asking for a receipt thing is common in Japanese society when one wants to declare their expenses for the company that they work at. Asking for a receipt means that 'its not for me and am buying for my company' so one does not have to feel embarrassment. How do or did you buy your ero mags? I remember when I was a wee lad who was conscious about my health - I would have to reach up to the top shelf to pick up a playboy - very embarrassing. We also had the Sun newspaper which had a nice girlie showing her bare eyes every day on page 3. I really liked Ruby Finnegan > http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/showthread.php?p=154152 - still remember these pics! Growing up n an age without the Internets was tough. These days I do pick up eroge mags as its required in the line of work that I do but don't feel embarrassed in anyway. Some of the images on the cover are a bit OTT sometimes though as you can see - this pic from the Japanese Magazines article.
i got no hard copies or pictures for that matter, my adult content is all videos =P
Yeah, me too! XD Just in the form of ecchi anime DVDs and .wmvs. I never really liked the "real" thing, I just can't never see through the end of it... Just give me H inserted with a good story and I can deal with that.
Arrgt, I meant "I just can't EVER see through the end of it"...
nope. i have no ero mags. i have the internet. ^^;
I heard you will get canned from owning ero stuff in Singapore (^_^)V
internet is for porn
Avenue Q~~~~
Yay internets!
Ironically, ero-magazines are not available in Los Angeles. I'm surprised Kinokuniya Bookstores doesn't stock any at all.
I'm not surprised. Some of those ero-mags, seen by "regular people" (as in non anime/manga connoisseurs) can look like pedo material. Of course they are not all like that but some people just get the wrong idea.
At least we get away with G's Festival when they include limited edition oppai mousepads, Dakimakura and sometimes include nudity in the reviews inside but NEVER will you see an issue of 'Bug Bug' in stock. None of the magazines above will ever make it to Kinokuniya Bookstore in L.A. The closest thing to getting Ero-magazines in Los Angeles would be online at J-List but then again i don't do online orders much.
though you can get 3d-Japanese ero mag at LA
You were able to get 3D Japanese porn at one point but Kamekaze Anime went out of business recently. And i learned about the adult section a few weeks before they closed down when i bought my flip top and Swap Magic software for my PS2 slim.
It's not just Kinokuniya, but also at Asahiya Bookstores in Santa Monica. Then again, I am more into Shonen Ace and Comptiq. So I can only guess they stick with more mainstream stuff.
The only time I bought an adult mag, was about the time I was 18 or 19. Walked into a gas station and realized I never bought one so at the counter I was just like "get me a playboy" and the the clerk was like, we don't have anymore, so then I said "well then, how about a penthouse". I am very nonchalant about this kind of stuff and don't really get embarrassed over it, so long as family is not involved (the parents and grandparents type). However that has been the only time I purchased adult materials in a store (and I am now 27 btw).
I'm over 19 and I don't even have one T_T. Must be a sad otaku (sits in lonely corner of room)
Don't worry I also only started this year as well, and I'm 19 too!
dont have yet but soon will
i would buy them regardless as long as they weren't overly expensive and featured the models i liked. then again, these ero-mags aren't available where i am so meh~~
It is banned to sell ero/adult mag in my country... So no luck for me T.T Unless I have to smuggle them in from the custom ^^
i have no need for ero mags.i have you guys to leech off from
When I was underage I saw this imported hentai magazine. Asked my female cousin to buy it for me. When I got old enough and had some sense in me, I would feel embarrassed to buy anything ecchi or just plain sexy (be them mags or books). But since I'm a lazy person I thought "screw it" and just started buying what I needed. Got a lot of weird looks but I don't care anymore.
I love the Internet. I rank it under sleep and just about the same level as food on my heirarchy of needs.
dont have ero mag in m'sia but when i was visiting Japan, at a sun story (forgot name of store), i just took a mag and walk up straight to the counter and pay for it with a big smile on my face. the cute girl behind the counter looked and me for a bit and scanned the mag. so i guess it went well. i did the same thing every night for 4 days with the same girl at the counter.
4 days straight? Either you really like ero mag or you really like to know the girl......
I think he like both ^.^
Just like gordon... I don't have ero mag since we have the internet ^_^ I do occasionally buy HeavyMetal mag... but that's not really ero ^^;
I have nothing.
Haha. I remember buying the 'Daily Sport' when I was about 17. It's a newspaper in the UK basically full of semi-naked women and sports pictures. I was practically blushing walking up to the counter, and then the shopkeeper called out in a booming voice "Oi Oi! Sporty Sporty!". Argh, that was embarrassing. I hid the newspaper under my jacket all the way home ^^;
I never had to hide my buying ero mags. I knew the mag shop owner. so we couldn't care much less what we were reading.
I don't buy mags now either, but I haven't ever been ashamed of buying this stuff. They sell, I buy.
Does that mean Danny sandwiches a fashion mag in between a bunch of ero mags, and ask for a receipt?
Hehehehe
never bought a ero mag probably because the internet was up by the time i was aware of health care needs...
I had no clue I was purchasing something rather "riske" until I actually went and opened it up after purchasing it... I wondered why the saleswoman was looking at me kinda weird.
I do not own anything adult besides internet. LOL
not buying at the local bookstores or conbini makes it easier. haha
nver read a ero mag b4 but i had read mags like FH* and M*xim before xD now i no longer reads them..internet ftw
I got a ton in Data form Tons of them . I actually have all Comic LO mags.
i am past the feeling of embarasment. I used to get really nervous when going to an adult store or a strip club or even buying something like megami....but anymore i just don't care too much what whoever purchasing it thinks....but then again...i wear a panda hat and an sos brigade armband alot of the time....-_-'
Sandwiched a few Playboys before I moved to Canada, hid them somewhere in my old house. One of my older cousins found them after I moved to Canada and suspected that they were my younger cousin's. Now all my healthy material is stored in my hard drive. ^^
Eh. When I buy stuff like that, I usually just go up to the counter and pay for it. This can be pretty fun if the salesperson suddenly acts all embarassed. This deserves the 'is ecchi' tag, though.
I dont keep physical copies, it's too troublesome & takes up a lot of space. soft-copy & HDD/Blu-ray/DVD FTW!
Do we even have these in Malaysia....?
that's why I said I dont keep physical copy ^^;
I just buy it normally like I do everything else. I flash kids with the pin-ups as they gawk.
on my first trip to japan, i bought quite a few ero mags, prob over a 100 bucks, i was young. anyway, a friend and i were at seven eleven and he wanted a porn mag, but he was too scared to buy it, kinda embarrassing as i was almost checked out by a lady. on the flight home the bag with all my mags was randomly searched, they left a note that they searched the bag, and all the mags were not in the order i left them in, im just glad they dont search the bags in front of the passengers, that would have been interesting. in the end, when i got back to the states i gave all the ero mags to friends, and two DVDs, well over a 100 bucks of stuff.
No, I don't have ero mags. But I don't feel embarrassed when I'm asking something about DVD porn in store. I even able to know other perverts, I mean patrons, who really knowledgeable in that industry. XDD
I was a weird gaijin, so I guess I assumed the novelty of my buying all the magaazines would overpower any sense of embarassment. I never felt any shame buying ero-manga at konbinis at any rate ;D
While I don't own any Ero-magazines from anime. Some of the artbooks I own have alot of full page very nice not-clothed artwork. My School Days/Summer Days one was particularly racy. For adult magazines, I have only bought adult magazines a few times at the gas station. I just buy a few other items to take the focus off the mag. Some Shiner Bock, some Doritos, payment on pump 2, and...this too. ^_^;
Is just not posible to find this kind of magazine here :(
.. and now we have internet:P
Just do it! Just buy it... ;-) We otakus is here to stay!
Yep... I picked several different stuff while I was in Japan. So many doujinshi... I was baffled by the sheer amount on some shops.
no porn allowed here. i used to download stuff from the internet ages ago, but stopped about 2 years back since i dont feel like watching anymore porn now. mind gets desensitized to these things if we watch those too much.
Its normal for men to have porno, its almost a fact that everyone has atleast seen porn before. i myself have some ero-man on my shelf and pretty open about it...lol, it looks totaly oblivious tho, considering all the other manga makes it look non-ero/normal.
dun have eromag but there always scanned ero pic on the internet ^^;
I don't own any and don't really read them as I haven't come across them on the internet really XD
If I ever get to Japan, I'll pick up one of these just for the heck of it ^^;
Yes sir I have them and now someone offered me the ChuxChu Idol artworks book :)
I don't have any ero or h material.
The ero materials I have are in my HD ^.^ , I have neber gone up to a counter to buy ero mag.
Its amazing how the internet has come to save health conciousness. Not only can you avoid embarssment you can get it for free. Except well...you can't take it to the bathroom with you (hmm,maybe you can).
Always wanted one but my country is under strict rule of no Adult content magazines which is so unneccessary...
I used to sandwich when I was very young, but eventually I just bought the mags without trying to hide it. Then came the internet.....
I hit Puberty when Internet was in its children boots...There was no need to buy Eromags but alot of time was required when you accessed pictures with a 56 k Modem ^_^.I think it took me about 1 hour to get a 10 mb movie XD I only own one Playboy and that was a gift.Why should i buy mags when theres the Internet with all its abilities
And to think that you live near likely the only town in Germany where you can actually get 2D Eromags. What a waste~
yes i have some and im gonna order more tomorrow!
Nah...but on internet yes lol
i live on danbooru and /a/.... but that's a whole other story
No hard copies here...Can't get it here...
I'm past the feeling of embarrassment. When people look, I'm like, with one look at them, "what's it to you?"
My sauce is mostly the Interwebs. But their are times that I buy magazines like FHM, Playboy and Maxim (on very rare occasions though). I just buy the thing without a care in the world. It shows that I am a MAN! XD
Hey, as long as you READ them! XD
Define "read" XD
used to be embarrass when buying gondoms in shops n sandwich it with others items. Now no more embarrass, be it guy or gal at the counter.
It's not embarrassment really. More of fear that my family will think am sick or something. Either way the Internet is full of eroge stuff. So..I guess I don't need to buy ero magazines
Usually I buy ero mag at kiosks, so the embarrassment is practically nil *lol*
Nah, never buy one. My parents will kill me if I do. ^_^
Ah! Eros manga translated by Studio Proteus. Simply the best back then. Anyone agree?
I have not adult videos or magazines in my possession. I'm utterly pathetic when it comes to this.
I don't know have ero mags. However, I will keep these in mind when I ever do get one. ^^
as long as I do not live in japan, it seems pointless to buy stuff, even manga you just get shit here =P but when I live in japan some day that will change of course
I don't have any Ero magazines in my collection...but when I buy questionable Doujinshi, I buy a couple of G-rated Gag Doujin so I'll have something to show when explain why I paid so much for "two" books, lol. ^^;
From time to time I buy TechGian, a galge mag. I only keep interesting posters, reviews or interviews and throw the rest. My space is fairly limited...
I'm not that overly conscious about buying ero magazines. I don't think it's that big a deal unless you make it one.
New Age... Barely any need to go out and get a hard copy nowadays with it being so prominent online, so I have never had this problem, but it does sound really embarrassing.
You just did not post a link to a such naughty 3D porn forum did you Danny? I don't even remember drinking anything... ;]
No I dont have any ero mags but all i have is some vids..LOL
I am old enough to have no shame any more. If I want to buy an ero mag I just buy it and have done with it.
Having said that, I remember a case in the company where I work where non-Japanese management needed some staff to go out and buy a load of porn movies on UMD for PSP. So obviously they asked the Japanese staff to do it, and the staff were very embarrassed.
Damn it, I never see those Bug Bug magazines scanned, maybe except for the first few issues years back. =( The cover art for all of them are incredibly gorgeous. Anyone know who's the artist behind them?
