Whale Activist Poster

Whale Activist Poster
Tokyo Times spots the perfect poster for whale activists to stick on their wall - Shows which parts can be eaten and how much it costs.
Looking at the illustration however, it doesn't look like that much can be eaten...

Hmm, once during a journey through the Amazons, I was given monkey stew by the locals ^^;;;
After that they offered me grilled snake... I drew the line there for new experiences.
Sure hope they weren't endangered species...

I wouldnt even want to eat whale. Or Dolphin, or monkey for that matter. Chocolate covered ants, octopus, and Snails are okay.

Normal meats are taboo and insects are your domain?! Not that it's wrong... you'll get plenty and more protein this way; and insects aren't endangered.

How about duck embryo?

In 2006 when I was in Shinjuku (I think, I know we did past a red light district), I went with a few others for sushi during dinner. After waiting what seemed to be an hour in line (in reality only 15 minutes) on a hungry stomach, my tongue was drooling for some tuna, fatty tuna, and eel.

After feeling somewhat proud for a large stack of trays, I was offered to try their special for the day which incidentally was whale meat. I was hesitant at first, but since I was over there I wanted to try what the 'local' special tasted like... Well, it wasn't something I painfully regret. Whale meat is extraordinarily tender and slightly slimy; additionally it is lacking in flavor when our chef prepared it as sushi anyhow.

I think there should be a picture of a whale giving the finger, grabbing his crotch and saying "eat this!"

I'd like to taste it someday.. but this coming from someone who already ate horse sashimi doesn't say much. :P

But strange foods apart, I'd really like to taste Matsuzaka Beef once. That and Fugu... because I like living dangerously. (you know, like sitting behind a desk all day long isn't exactly healthy)

Have you already Danny? Ate fugu and/or matsuzaka beef?

A whale would feed a lot of people. Not interested in trying it myself, this coming from a vegetarian though. Which makes me wonder how prevalent vegetarianism is in Japan?

Apparently, vegitarianism is really rare in Japan. It's apparently really hard to find any food that doesn't have some sort of animal in it, besides basic vegitables.

I suppose those highlighted parts are for gourment dishes. but going whaling just for that small amount of meat is really wasteful; if you're going to kill an enedangered animal at least make the most of what it gives you; not like what fishermen do to sharks ToT

I havn't tried whale meat before any I don't think I can ever afford it.

It gets wasted, like getting shark fin; they catch the shark, remove the fins, and throw the dying creature back into the sea.

So why the hell doesn't any governmet want to do something about this instead of pledging to revome violent videogames from sale when their age rating is clearly printed on the box; it's the non-caring parents who buy it for their whiny kids.

Totally a waste for only a small percentage of the whale being used for food.
Then where the heck the rest of the meat go? To the meat processing plant to make dog food?
Tsk tsk tsk...

Also, it seems a little wasteful to only eat that little of the whale ('~') maybe the rest are used for other things? Like making cyborg wales perhaps-

Whale meat's not very popular at all. The Japanese whaling industry is pretty much a government pork-barrel project that only survives due to political reasons. Due to the fact that foreign whaling activists often use excessive offensive stunts like desecrating the Japanese flag and ramming whaling vessels, it is very easy for any Japanese politician to support whaling as a "Japanese tradition to be protected from foreign interference." (Conveniently ignoring the fact that that the current whaling industry was actually General MacArthur's idea...) If the whale activists had an ounce of political sense, they could easily find better ways to get Japan to stop whaling.

i saw a documentary in the wailing yesterday and completely agree on this,
i wont defend ''japan'' (at least its goverment but everyone blames the fisherman, not the one who orderes the fisherman) on this, but i will blame the activists on their idiot non diplomatic way of atacking the fishers, this wont solve the problem but will only lead to more agression.
I mean, entering ships, making ships sink etc can in some degree be classified as terrorism. if you think its wrong you should seek a political solution without violence.

I'll just say both sides are wrong, the Japanese government and the activists.

i happened to see in a news article on the dutch television yesterday (the progam was called nova) it showed the situation and a japanese woman saying: well it is kind of exclusive you dont eat it everyday.
My personal guess is that she was talking about other food and the media made it look like she was talking about whale meat (do note that it was in the article about whale meat but she never used the word for whale meat itself so it could just have been copied in from an interview about exclusive food).
So this way the media gives all japanese a bad image by claiming they all love whale meat and its an exclusive thing.

so im happy about pkick's comment claiming whale meat isnt popular at all. it supports my thoughts.

on the other hand i wont ever say Japanese politics are correct, they can stop this and are also known to have made a lot of retired people's
money disappear.

a lot of people (media, japanese politics and enviorment activists)
have made mistakes and made the wrong people loose their face's over this situation(japanese civilians)
the media should stop meddeling with it (or at least give up its monopoly in defining its own truth and tell the real truth for once) and politics and activists should seek real solutions in a non violent way.

i've had snake and rabbits before, not bad if cooked right, i can imagine the same for whale, though i'm kind of skeptical about trying an endangered animal. thank you, but I'll stick to my 3 main meats...chicken, beef, and pork.

飲食店が店内に吊るしたメニューを、英語では「ポスター」と表現するのですか?
この「ポスター」は、「茜どき(Akanedoki)」という居酒屋の、いわゆる「おしながき」のようですが。
