We've talked about the worst anime but how about the ones which start out good and then turn to poo? The ones that immediately spring to mind for me are Macross Zero and Top Wo Nerae2 - both started off great and then turned into a steaming pile of baboon droppings towards the end. Replaced poo image of Kallen with this much nicer completely unrelated one from Sankakucomplex. Original text from Anime4Life below.By ending i mean how the story ends not the song =X just finished Romeo X Juliet today.... the series was fine until the last 3 episodes which didn't make any sense to me at all, it felt like they are desparately trying to kill R&J -. that brings me to this thought! have u seem an ending to a story thats soooo horrible that u wish you can write it instead?? heh I rmb the ending for Saikano was bad becuz of the random Tsunami.... and ending for Inuyasha was horrible beczu .... well it didn't end anything =/ Share your ideas XD see if it cna change our views on some series!! heh Pic of Kallen PS: is it me or is the image bugged..?
if horrible as in "horrible" <did that make any sense?>, i'd choose School Days, but it horrible as in horribly written, i'd say Gundam SEED DESTINY... ^^
You beat me into it..... Same as CVPhased. Gundam Seed Destiny for me too. Figure out for yourselves why for those who did'nt watched the series EVER....
Word. School Days had a horrible ending......and i don't mean horrible as in something i didn't like. The ending was just horrible. No one should suffer the pain that went through these characters at the end of School Days.
Good thing I have'nt watched that series ever or else, I end up having dangerous tendencies of harm.....*joke*
The TV series would have thrown you off if you wouldn't had known about the contraversal conclusion. It caught me off guard and thought of the fact that this is the way most Anime will conclude from now on. My own heart was stabbed when i saw the end.
Yeah...talk about tragedy shows with horrible endings....It's not recomended for the faint hearted to watch.
Makoto totally deserved it :P I felt worse for the gals. But hey, now we forever have the term "Nice Boat!"
I dont like thinking about the last 2 or 3 episodes of the show myself, kinda unpalatable for me Usually I rather think of the happy endings from the game, which I imported :/
Hey at least I got a big "LOL"
I actually loved the fact that Makoto apologized to Katsura in episode 11, and went back to her since he did say he wanted to be with Katsura from the very begining. Still, the events that occured after that were very explicit and unexpected. I feel that Sekai provoked every single bad thing that went on in the TV Anime though.
They should have just extended episode 11 long enough to give a happy ending... but kudos to the production team for trying to be as real-life as possible.
I thought that the ending for School Days was great. That bloody endings were one of the only reasons I wanted to watch the show. I have to agree with Danny that Macross Frontier's ending made me rage. The stupid series didn't conclude anything at all. *SPOILERS* It was retarded how he basically went "I want the both of you to be mine" and they didn't care at all.*END SPOILER*
And i tot Danny mentioned Macross Zero... But i kinda liked Macross Zero's ending although i have nearly forgotten it... and at that time i just can't get it... Much like the Sky crawler's
I just noticed... every time this anime is mentioned, there would always be a chain of comments pertaining to how jerk of a person Makoto is... ^^
Because he was a jerk indeed i mean seriously all along the series one can predict that he was gonna end up in a miserable way i like school days ending because it actually is one they don't leave anything hanging you know the bastard is dead and that he got what he deserves
I loved the ending of school days.
I didn't think anyone would say that.
same.. women still scare me after seeing that.
I wouldnt say gundam seed destiny has a bad ending.. its more like the whole series was bad heh...
The ending for School Days wasn't that bad, I'm pretty sure everyone knew it was coming, just not that harsh ;D
this is just in regards to anime~ ive watched a fair bit where they just kind of end when the manga kept going on~ i personally watch the anime and if i like or dont really get it i read the manga tho lately ive just been reading the manga. as far as school days goes~ my opinion would be that ending is as simple an explanation of how women in general are/think. from my experience, emotion > all. there is nothing that a womans emotions cant crush be it logic/reason or you. that ep simply shows how extreme that fact is.
I can't say School Days believe it or not. My reason is because it was a pile of garbage the whole way through, but it does have some redeeming qualities since Makoto was killed at the end. That was a very enjoyable moment for me. His character is the most despicable of any i have ever seen portrayed in animation. So i think i need to choose a series that was ruined by the ending alone. So i will choose Death Note. Why write such an amazing story and then ruin it by ending it in a way that was predictable from the first chapter. Additionally the introduction of the character Mellow and Near destroyed any remains the series had of succeeding in my book.
Well, for me it's not the ending that matter. It's how the story that I'm concern. Rosario+Vampire Capu2 (anime) episode have become fillers rather than telling the stories itself, but since it's still on going, I'll do my best not to lose any faith. Best that they not creating random ending or something like that. *I just wish that the anime stay true to the manga.
Yeah I agree on Rosario, they totally botched the manga story and it's just a T&A fest (censored too).
agreed, but at least they hint here and there about things that were skipped. might be that they are just going out of order since theres only soo much you can shove in a 30min time frame and keep peoples attention. claymores ending seems to be the example i keep thinking of about off the wall endings.
Let's see.... D-gray man(anime) - The story is not end yet!!! Rave Master(anime) - Is not even complete!!! MXO(manga) - There's still so much space to be develop and they end it T.T
You forgot Ai Yori Aoshi..............i friggin' loved that TV Anime. It's true that the manga version went farther, and might have even concluded. I wouldn't know, i never read the Ai Yori Aoshi manga, but i sure wish the TV Anime would have had an ending. I'm not much of a manga reader.
It was an okay anime and it's better to have ended well then degress into filler endings
Ai Yori Aoshi was one of the first romance TV Anime's i saw so i was looking forward to a good ending. But now that i've seened more than enough romantic Anime i can already see what would have happened. Still i never get bored of romantic Anime even when the conclusion is clearly predictable.
Oh I totally forgot about Ai Yori Aoshi... 1 of my first romance anime too ^^ I can't really remember the ending... Is it about Tina returning back to them???
In season 2 of Ai Yori Aoshi, Tina leaves Japan and i think she goes back to America, with the feeling that she may never go back to Japan to see her friends again. I'm positive that if the TV Anime would have continued, there would have been no doubt taht there would have been a situation where Tina would have made a comeback. I just can't stand the fact that it never continued. :(
I so totally agree with you!
For me, Death Note had one of the worst endings ever... But anyway, I didn't like anything after the episode 25 or something, seemed like some sort of filler or alike u.u
I loved the ending of "Death Note", to me it just felt the whole arc after episode 17 until the end was unnecessary.
Watch directors cut for best ending.
I agree on Death Note sucking it up. Once L was out of the picture i thought the story would less the whole cat and mouse detective game and move onto more of Kira acting out his plan for the future, but alas they introduced super detective loser group consisting of Mellow and Near. I really think it had the feeling of filler material also despite it being mostly canon.
Dragonaut. At first the series seemed like it was ok, I had high hopes for it in the beginning. But as the show went on and then the ending... Ugh.
Have to agree with that one...THE POWER OF LOVE!!!!! WTF!
I agree that Dragonauts is a terrible anime but I don't know if it fits this category of horrible ending. It was pretty much unwatchable less than half way into the show. I can only say it has such deceiving first few episodes.
agree 1000000000000% ......still love toa though....
Oh yeah.... Forgot about that one. I had high hopes from the beginning too.
For me it would be 1. Samurai X (the anime series and not the manga) 2. Saikano (shit crap! what the f**K happen? They decide to do a Tomino style ending?) 3. Chrono Crusade. (It ended on such a low-key) 4. School days. (What the f**K were the writers on!? LSD?!)
Chrono Crusade's ending is powerful, but it is a kick between the legs.
Chrono Crusade? i liked that ending! it had impact, sure it was sad but t fit the series so well
Word o Saikano...total bullocks ending!!!
I was actually not surprised on the school days ending. Note to self, never anger psychotic girls XD
Destiny Code Geass CG R2 Tactical Roar Kujibiki Unbalance I can probably rant about more...
I actually liked the endings of both seasons of Code Geass. The first ended with you wanting more and the second ended satisfyingly. I don't know why all the hate for the ending (and majority of the season) of R2.
sansei! I absolutely loved all of code geass. I thought the ending was very fitting given the characters' motivations and events that had transpired (errr... would love to discuss in more detail but it'd be spoiler city ^^;;)
Agreed. I loved the ending of code geass. its between having you wanting more and having just enough to be satisfied. Some of the episodes before the ending are kinda rushed though but I can understand since they probably wanted the story to fit into 25 episodes.
See, but the point is, the ending of season one is a cliff hanger ending. The point of a cliff hanger ending is so that they can continue with the story the next time it shows. What did we get people? We got 4 months later crap. Although we were gradually notified of what happened in the events passed, imo, it was literally crap. If R2 went the way of the director, it would have worked R2 didn't have a great end, imo, b/c it did another time skip. I mean, seriously, do people noticed how many time skips there were in R2? Three -once in the beginning, once for the Emperor Ruru of Britannia, and once for Emperor Ruru for World Dictator. I HATE that, and they assumed we knew what happened in between the events, which is bs. The execution was nice, but the way they told the story is not what I was looking for -grant it, I gave up hope for R2 a long time ago, and was only watching it to feel closure to a major let down.
Lookie here: http://trainwreck.ggkthx.org/2008/08/19/taniguchi-on-geass-not-as-planned/
=( -already read that
Just a honest question, not trying to stir things up - is it the fact that there was a time skip that made it bad for you, or was it that you didn't like how the time skip was executed? Your comment makes it seem like the former, which seems a little unforgiving, since there are often (non-[budget/marketing/etc]) reasons for having them, i.e. the content isn't as interesting, or perhaps could be interesting if developed but would detract from the narrative and make for a worse presentation of the story. Star Wars, for example, has a 3 year gap between eps 4 and 5... Yeah, we could get technical and talk about how they're separate movies and thus separate entities and go into analysis about if that's similar to the different seasons of anime, but it's kind of aside from my point - which is that a time skip, as you describe it, is basically ellipsis, a perfectly valid narrative device. Now then, if your main argument is that the ellipsis was poorly executed, no arguments there, I definitely haven't put that much thought into the series and respect your opinion so please ignore this ^^;;;
hmmm, didn't think of star wars, but let's do something familiar. G-L: I hate the time skip portion to be completely honest. The actions in the time skip portions are a little to over the top. As well as I don't believe that humanity can evolve technology that fast in such a short amount of time, having Simon as the leader -even if Rosiu (spelling error) is a smart ass and Rilon is a smart guy/girl. Gundam 00: That was actually beautifully executed -although I really have to see how the season turns out. The main reason why this might be so, is that little ending snipit they gave us at the end of season two, to expect what is about to come and how the world changed for the worst. Code Geass didn't do that. It assumed that you knew that the Black Rebellion failed -which hypothetically you can guess it, but I mean, the end of Season one ends with CC going to the depths of the ocean with Orange, and suzaku and lulu having a shoot out. I mean seriously, then you start R2 with Lulu with not Nunnally? I mean, that was rather confusing, imo, at first. If you want a better example, go take a gander at the UC series. For animated stories there are definitely time gaps in between. HOWEVER, there are still ways to bridge the time gaps by reading the manga/novels that are out there -as well as provide an alternative outcome. This can be so once I read the Code Geass manga, but until then, I may not know.
besides don't forget the extra episode that is coming
I am adding Gurren Lagann to this list. No offense people, but the last fight, being very big, is just absurd -nearly on par with Destiny's super robots clashing it out.
I seriously wish for an edit functions on comments... Anyway, forgot to add Evangelion. Both movie ending and series ending -although seriously, I wouldn't mind if they reanimated that show to resemble something like "Angelic Days"
So you prefer a slice of life super happy school girl show over what Anno made. Or did you miss the beautifully designed characters and psychoanalytical topics that filled the series. Angelic Days is complete garbage. I agree the series ending was crap but it had many reasons surrounding it. But to say it should be redone as that Angelic Days garbage is blasphemy against "deep" anime. Lemme guess you like Lucky Star, Haruhi Suzumiya right?
Except for the fact that everything in TTGL was meant to be over the top. The idea that anything--even the fusion of robots--is possible as long as you have the guts and spirit. So I think the scale of the last battle was fitting for the overall theme of the series. I do agree with the time-skip part of the series. Seeing everyone old and wrinkly was not a good way to end it. I can't wait to see what the manga does with it.
Getter is over the top, so is Gaogaigar. The final battle of TTGL went beyond the OMG Awesome, to OMG WTF?
OH! I finally thought of one! Rumbling Hearts TV Anime. The ending wasn't horribly written or anything but it left me very depressed. Seeing Takayuki leave Haruka was a very f****d up thing. Sorry for the curse word, but it was. When you think about it, School Days TV Anime would have ended just like Rumbling Hearts TV Anime did if School Days didn't have the intense violence at the end.
Gundam SEED Destiny is the worst written Gundam series I've ever seen. It was great the first 13 episodes... then I seriously have no idea what happened.
what happened... basically Kira Yamato returned and became God-like... ^^
Kira returned to save the show because everyone in the entire universe despised Shin. even his dead sister and parents..
Trinity Blood anybody? it felt as if the ending was the coolest 1st episode ever >_<;
It was because the author died before it was finished. It was pretty good until the ending.
Did anyone notice how bad tenjou tenge got near the middle to end of the series? For me that ranks up there in bad endings.
The flash backs were annoying. My only favorite parts was the fighting and when his hair turn black
Don't forget the fan service... fan service... ^^
fan service was great but i got bored after about 5 episodes...
While obviously not HORRIBLE, the Gurren Lagann ending kinda pissed me off. "I'm going to surpass everything and help my friends.... by leaving everyone and living as a hermit". It felt like Gainax was going for a "think about it" ending, but I was left think "Wait, so the moral of the story is the hero is supposed to wander endlessly after he saves the world?"
True. I agree with you.. They just made Simon the bum, and I thought they could do another spin off with the series. If it did not ended like that
There is a lot of horrible ending in many anime I have watch. They are so horrible, that I forgot the name of it!
The ALL time worst anime ending must go to Evangelion...
It's not really horrible... it just 'wtf' ^o^
I didnt get the Evangelion ending until I watched it again
That series is still one of my favorites, but yeah I agree you gotta watch it mulitple times to get it. Of course you wouldn't watch it again multiple times if you didn't like it the first time through, so it's kinda a vicious cycle =p
Agreed. It's not so horrible as it is wtf.
lol! right! > <;
Agreed... >.<
I couldn't agree more.
thank you budget issues on that one... ^^
yeah. i haven't watched many series but Eva should take the cake. it really made me go 'HUH?!' i felt like i'd wasted so much time watching the whole series. anime like HYAKKO i can understand because they're bad from the very start (and i've given up on it) but Eva started out promising and gave a spectacularly floppy finish. totally shitty.
Lack of funds? xD
Not a biggie but maybe Suzuka for me, I think the manga expands more but I really hated the anime at the end, and I generally watch and love every anime rarely drop too but I felt pissed off at the end.
Death Note turned crap after L died. *sigh*. I think killing him off was a very bad decision. or the replacements (M&N) were the bad decision. I think the latter sounds more like it. :D
Agreed. I stopped watching about two episodes after his death.
I always wanted L to die. ^_^
I couldn't agree more with you. At first i thought the Death Note ending wasnt too bad, but the more and more I thought about it, the ending was kinda crap.
It sucks when a good anime ends bad, with dead or some shit like this. I don't like it.
His and Her circumstance, in my opinion, didn't end all that great. Especially where they left it off, talking about the cultural festival and BAM, read the manga for the rest.
that was a big middle finger for the fans of the show who did not want to read the manga
Yeah, I started watching it because I loved the manga. Definitely a horrible series in general...
I think the ending for sekirei was not that good. am I the only person who thinks School Days ending was funny?
hmm, i'm also thinking of death note. i liked romeo x juliet, until the middle of the series. but i can't remember exactly why. and the recent one, i'm not satisfied with macross frontier.
Yeah, Macross Frontier's ending wasn't horrible but, it really wasn't satisfying. "We'll spend the whole show with this love triangle and guess what! We're not going to resolve it!"
I can't say anything about bad endings. Maybe because I don't go with that, instead I go with the theme songs. LOL. But I could say one, Rave master was not finished. I remember that even it showed when I was younger, like 10 yrs old.
Hmmm.... Kannazuki no Miko's ending was just gay.. literally and metaphorically. But that's fantasmo compared to anime that NEVER end at all. Except for Doraemon of course. ^_- School Days' ending was meh.. And to be honest, Code Geass' ending left too many unanswered questions to really be called an ending. Just imo though.
Lol @ Kannazuki no Miko XD
Somehow I enjoyed Kannazuki no Miko. Initially watch it for the cool mecha without realizing it was a yuri anime... There's not a lot of Yuri theme mecha anime outside... which is make this anime kinda different I would say. From the beginning of the story you could actually feel the 'yuri' vibe going on so the ending is kinda expected.
Hemm, I could understand that from a woman perspective ^^. But not all girl hate yuri, at least one of my acquaintance is not.
I loved the ending of "kanazuki No Miko". To me personally it's an amazing series that's plagued by its mecha element, without the mecha it would have made one of the most convincing and gripping love trianble stories out there. ^^
When I saw the title of this post, the first thing that came to mind was School Days...
Awww...Comeon! One of the most unique endings of all time. :)
I absolutely agree. Do people assume that just because it's a harem that the male lead will end up with all the girls and live happily ever after?
One of best endings to the biggest piles of garbage i had ever seen. School Days is by far the WORST OVERALL anime i have ever laid my eyes on. The only good part was the ending.
Worst anime of all time: School Days
Worst protagonist of all time: Makoto from School Days
Worst stoyline of all time: School Days
come on...school days was good. makoto died yeah??!!
Makoto had it coming, best ending ever. Nice Boat!
agreed.lol
.//hack sign i sleep thru most of the episodes...
I kinda watched .hack//sign because of the RPG theme. Then near the end of the series, I went "WTF there wasn't much about RPGs here, why am I watching this?" Then I dropped the series after that. ._.
Me too. ^^
Scryed, Just wasn't doing much for me :( Gunparade March, Simple ending that could have had a bigger impact Kanokon, Needs more depth Utawarerumono, good ending but, had me a bit ruffled at first...
I thought the ending in Utawarerumono was weird. I didn't fully get it. However I tried the visual novel and it's very close to the anime and everything is explained so much better and then the ending makes sense. It looks like the anime had a good idea about the ending but failed to really tell it. The visual novel was a weird one btw. Usually you have to decide something and then it affects the whole story. In this one you sometimes get to pick which room/location to go to next and there was no telling what to expect from each one (going to the yard twice produced very different results). Eventually I figured out that the story went like A-B-C and if A presented you with two locations (1 and 2) it would be like you should pick A-1-2-B or A-2-1-B. This means that there is no way that you can affect the main plot and I actually ended up with ALL the girls in one game. I don't know if that happens every time though. This totally kills replayability, but the story is great, way more detailed than the anime and every time there is a fight, you control the fight and level up the people.... kind of fun but weird as a visual novel.
If i gotta say it would be school days , chrono crusade , and dragonaut. There's some more but they just doesn't pop into my mind right now =.=
There are too much series without a nice ending. Usually, they start with great ideas, but slowly derail to non-sense. They are too much to list :P
Ya, there's many to list. I think it's quite difficult to end a good anime as people's expectation of the ending will be high.
I agree completely. A better question would be "Which anime actually has a good ending?". The list would be MUCH shorter.
Hm, Saikano for me...it was depressing and confusing...
Yea, that too! Saikano hurt my brain abit...
I liked saikano but the ending in the anime was a little blurry/confusing... and I like the depressing aura in this anime....
Yeah, I liked it a lot better when they did it the first time...it was called The Goonies... Kidding. No, I really liked the ending. It took me several tries to get past episode 14, but once I did it the whole thing fell together by the end. It's very satisfying, and probably requires you not to watch it alone.
The ending i hate the most is when they cancel the show without even having one (an ending). But if thats not counted then i supposed i'll go with Gundam Seed Destiny, I would prefer if one of the main characters die (either kira, or athrun or shinn) instead of the beating that shinn recieved.. Atleast with Athrun dying and shinn finally realizing what he has done is wrong maybe it would produce a better out come.. Another Anime ending that i despise is of Macross Frontier, totally botched it.. I aint gonna include Code Geass coz i believed the ending was fitting although i wished it was an hour long.
Top Wo Nerae 2 was awesome for me though^^;... The worst for me would be Chrno Crusade... The ending was great just that I would have loved it to stick to the manga and not change the ending...
what do you expect from gonzo anyway IMO chrno crusade anime is horrible compare to manga
The Skullman (rather obscure tiltle...dun think anyone has heard of it or anything). Not that the ending was poor, just that it was a bad ending, especialy for the protagonist. But ti was also great in a way that the ending made the entire series a pseudo-prequel for Cyborg 009. ^_^ Another for me would be Evangelion. I was like 'Huh?' from start to end of the final episode. LOL
There are too many anime where I can't stand the ending because it didn't go as I would have liked. I find that in general, there are only a select few where I would say the ending was satisfying. I think much of the reason is due to adaptation from unfinished manga or light novels, which drives me to go and purchase them in order to find out what happens afterward.
Where shall I begin? Just bad endings? Hmm... I'll just choose one. "Neon Genesis Evangelion". The whole series ended as an incomplete season cliff-hanger. But do they plan a second season? No. They try replacing the ending with a movie or two, director cut episodes, and then seem to just saying they give up and redo the whole thing with four movies.
I'd put down Ghost Hound for being a really big disappointment. A good buildup that just never quite materialized. Same goes for Shion no Ou, which had decent writing and a good mystery until the last episode pulled some illogical rationalizations to end it. Both probably could have used a few more episodes just to wrap things up.
I think Midori no Hibi, Nanaka 6/17, school days and love hina were the anime/manga that dissapointed me the most. All of them I enjoyed a lot, but then just after the half way mark they went straight downhill for me.
Midori? Why?...
Why seconded on Midori.
I dunno, its been a while since I watched it (like over a year) so I don't remember it fully but I remember just feeling really unsatisfied after finishing it.
Maybe it lacks moe? lol
I think it's because they didn't really finish up to the manga. 6-7 volumes of manga just can't fit into 13 episodes -_-
School days of course~ i think that series will be on the history books about anime
I'll try to recall some. True Tears Utawarerumono - the whole series was great, but it had really lame ending Tenjou Tenge Chrno Crusade I think that ending of School Days was great. I didn't like that series until the last episode, but then I had change my opinion, because it ended in a very specific thrilling way.
I thought True Tears ended a lot better than most series do. Did you just disagree with who the main character ended up with at the end? By the way, I'm putting in my vote for Death Note. It wasn't the ending that sucked. It was the whole entire second half.
Well, it's not the case. I think that I missed the ending. I mean, that it ended before I realized. I didn't feel any ending sensation. It's hard to put in words though ^^ But I liked True Tears on the whole.
Gantz, made it feel like watching the previous episodes was pointless.
I totally agree with this, I have never felt so cheated at the end of a series
That's true. Fortunately the manga is really good.
School Rumble (manga) well,its not a horrible one,its more like unexpected?its a love-comedy manga,but the ending is kinda... '''=___=)
the anime isn't different...i mean the end of each season there is not much of progress..i wish they would some how finish the thing at season 3 or at least show some progress with the characters.
Uhuh. One word: unsatisfying.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Berserk. I heard the ending was cut short due to budget problems. It wasn't conclusive at all.
I thought they ended the series that way to promote the manga. Also the manga's storyline didn't offer much more material at that time (1997).
I don't think series that ended without a real ending due to production conflicts should count for "worst endings". They didn't really have a choice but to leave it as is. I think what people should really be thinking about are the ones that have endings that are just "wtf" or "wow, that was horrible".
I beg to differ. Having production issues shouldn't be an excuse. An ending is an ending. It's the provided conclusion to the series. Just because there's a reason for it doesn't make it any better. Who knows what the ending could have been? It could be just as bad.
Well because technically it hasn't ended. For all we know, it could be indefinitely on hold.
Rave Master and Cooking Master Boy for me. Both are extremely great shows and both abruptly end just like that. WTF! the stories are not even finished yet T_T
"NHK ni yokoso" has the worst boring and silliest ending ever, though the beginning was absolutely great. "Abenobashi Mahou Shotengai" is wonderful series, but ending was too predictable and senseless.
I'm suprised no one mentioned Rurouni Kenshin. It left the manga storyline at around episode 60 and started making fillers, it went down a long 35 episode slope of pain before dying at episode 95 with a horrible ending.
for me ma first ever bad ending was Evangelion...the first episodes where cool but the last few was just like WTF....maybe i was to young at the time to understand might have to re-watch it to get a better picture. but what i do know that a lot of people this was their first anime that left a scar on to their poor souls and kinda left anime for good....
Code Geass R2, Air Gear..
Totally forgot about Air Gear but I agree. I really think that there was so much more they could have done with it.
evangelion tv series air gear gundam seed destiny episode 50 not the ova trinity blood shakugan no shana II
I like more series that start weak and end strong than those that start strong and end horrible. It's always such a letdown seeing bad endings:(
I loved Utawarerumono all the way up to the last 3 episodes, I was left with very mixed feelings. The other one that made me think "what the hell happened?" was H2O - Footprints in the sand. For the entire show I thought he had somehow regained his eyesight only to find out everything that happened to him was in his head and that he had gone crazy. And then to top it off the outcast girl get runover by the train! Until at the end it shows her standing next to him. Very confusing. The last one that left dumbfounded was Air TV, I still don't understand it.
Evangelion. Philosphize all you want about it, and even bad endings can be good, but it just ended horribly.
Ergh, clicked too fast...
>>Top Wo Nerae2 - both started off great and then turned into a steaming pile of baboon droppings towards the end. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Them's fighting words, Danny. Diebuster's ending is great! Why? Because it's... Gunbuster's ending. I mean, how can you not like how epic things got in those last two episodes? You confuse me... There's very few shows I've seen with endings I've considered horrible. The only show with a horrible ending I can think of off hand is Shuffle!, and I love that show.
Saikano's ending was....weird....and I don't even remember much from the ending.... but I remember being like...'eh' I haven't seen many endings I really didn't like. With manga or anime...
This is why I sometimes prefer Slice of Life stories. The ending is just like the beginning, and so is the middle! Some anime shows do give you that wtf feeling riiiiiight at the end (esp Gainax shows), but if you're talking abt shows that stink midway through, Zettai Shounen comes to mind real fast.
Mahoromatic ending was really really bad.
Yes yet another wtf moment brought to you by Gainax.
I managed to skip the series and watched the last episode. I thought it was well done.
100% agreed. I hated whoever thought of that ending when I saw it.
Definition of a Gainax ending, lol
Mahou Sensei Negima (the first season) nuff said
Yeah! I agree with you. It was one of those WTF moments where I'm going... 'that's it? That didn't make much sense.'
True, the ending strayed so far from the manga and made no sense whatsoever. ^^;;
For me, it was Black Cat. It was a very horrible ending sequence.
death note ended on a whimper...
Have a couple...But have been forgotten in time...Only one i remember...SEED destiny...
I cannot think of many animes that TURNED OUT to be horrible, but if we are speaking aboout the Ending only (like last episode/conclusion), there are many... First two that would come in mind are Tsukihime Anime (since Arcueid dies here, wtf) and Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien Anime. And of course Elfen Lied Anime... damn Death Note too, but thats complicated
Arggg!! no wonder I couldnt find my post... but ya.. i didn't realize there were so many series with bad endings =X and now that i think about it eureka used to be cool for like 30 episodes then at the end it was so BS to the point type0 pretty much became Strike Freedom
Gundam SEED started great but towards the end, everything became over bloated in power. I thought SEED Destiny would fix this a bit and perhaps explain the background story a bit more but I was disappointed the whole way. Serial Experiments Lain wasn't too bad but the ending pissed me off quite a bit. To make it worse, I saw it all in one night... so I was really pissed. Same goes for E's Otherwise. I rush watched that series just to find an ending that fails to explain everything. Instead I have a big question mark over my head as I struggle to come up with an explanation as to what the hell just happened before the episode ends. Rurouni Kenshin was a classic that ran great during the beginning and ended horribly. Black Cat also pissed me off all the way through. The two last titles were great as a manga though. I didn't watch Negima but the fact that they made two runs and both ended while the manga is still running doesn't inspire much hope in a good anime series. I might be harsh on some series... but these are the endings or animes that piss me off enough that I can recall them on the spot.
I'd say many series had a crappy ending but IMO the most crappy ending goes to Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu. Well, it's not a real ending cause they planning Season 2, it was more of a twist in Haruhi behaviour during the School Festival that pissed me off, cmon people give it more sense...
crappy ending? romeo and juliet macross F(it's just not quite right)
one thing that pops out of my mind after reading the title is Code Geass. 3 months of patience and in the end what I get is not a conclusion. Not interested in watching second season anymore..
Yeah Gundam Seed to Seed Destiny was a bad series(too much similarities with the old and original Gundams) oh and air gear too not a clear end
I dunno. Macross Zero was disappointing, but I didn't think it was as bad as alot of people were making it out to be. But then I'm biased and had the chance to watch all 5 episodes in one viewing. For me the anime that really made to want to purge from memory of leading me on to watch the entire series only to crap on my face is Avenger. Just like, what was with that ending? The entire series was one big lead off to the end, and that ending was just so horrible...
Let's see, OH! FINAL FANTASY UNLIMITED! Crappy story and crappy ending. I mean, what the hell the thinking, trapping the heroes inside a maze of cube in most of the episodes. Not to mention, Kaze role only to kill the monster or whatever coming to the kids and the chic. ONLY ONE thing i could admire from this anime: THE AIR SHIP which appear in the last episode.
Don't know about this.. School Days comes in my mind though. As for the others, not so much.. Crappy ending, yes. Horrible, not that I can remember..
Gundam Seed Destiny was great in the beginning but the end left me unsatisfied. The Final Plus made it a bit better. To bad Rey was turned into he bad guy, that really messed it up.
Hmm, a lot of the series I like ran out of money before the end, so they were mostly unfinished. Bubblegum Crisis is a great example of this, along with the manga version of Murder Princess (although I think that had something to do with the magazine it was running in collapsing). Lost Universe was a good series with a pretty good ending, but it was a cliff-hanger to some degree, and they never made the sequel it needed. Dai-Guard was the same- awesome series, ending leading into a new series, then no new series. Of course, these were all good series. I wouldn't call the endings bad, because they didn't really end, for one reason or another.
I don't like the Lost Universe ending. It's not the ending itself, but more the last episodes ends up being "this is the enemy, now we will kill them" and it's a lot of battles. Since the battles shouldn't be the same over and over, then supernatural enemies shows up and then it just gets weird. The Slayers suffered from the same problem.
H2O Footprints in the Sand. The ending was just like what? So are you dead? or were you just hiding for 8 years? Why have you come back now? Are you a spirit? This makes no sense!!! I really liked Hayami Kohinata. It should have ended at the train scene.
the ending to H2O was pretty bad but I have seen much worse. The only really crappy bit was the sudden resurrection for a happy happy ending which just felt shoved in.
Ranma 1/2. just how the entire anime ended altogether.
Yeah, I didn't like how they did that either. It's like they didn't even try.
I gotta' see that. I've been a long time fan and never bothered finishing it.
The thread is now too long to read fully, But I hope someone had the sense to say the ending to Mahoromatic. To this day, it's probably the worst ending to an anime I have ever seen, and that includes evangelion (which came close). The GSD ending was horrific as was Prism ark. Those stick in my mind the most. Each one makes the ending to Macross Zero and Code Geass look like masterpieces of storytelling! As for School days, how you viewed the ending is directly proportional to how much you knew about the game beforehand. Me, I knew what the game was known for so I really liked the ending because it was exactly what I had hoped for!!
In terms of commercial production and real-world viewpoint I don't have any "worst", but in terms of "sucks for the main characters" would be SEED Destiny. After all that "that's reality, mon" they gave us, they way everything worked out to be fine was a tad over the top. Gurren Lagann's ending also disappointed me a little. I could have done without "Prune-ojisan" Simon and the rest of the crew, even though aging is unavoiable.
dennou coil was crap.....
-evangelion (25,26 were bad and the movie even worse) -macross zero -death note (should have stoped at L's death)
I guess Evangelion is the most horrible as far as endings go: didn't understand what was going on anymore anywhere. Rest of the show was win though.
I agree with Kratos and Evil King! Evangelion had a really shitty ending. I'd like to add Berserk to that list. I would have liked to see the rest of the manga in the anime. The ending for Claymore was also crappy, it felt rushed in my opinion!
Rumiko Takahashi's Ranma and Inuyasha. WHAT. THE. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!?!?? I love Gainax ending compared to hers. We should start calling those lame endings "Rumiko endings" instead of "gainax-ed". Also, most mainstream animu has 98% potential of getting lame endings or turning lame. Namely, Bleach and Dragon Ball, just to mention the most popular ones.
To be fair, Takahashi had nothing to do with either the Ranma or Inu-Yasha endings, she would go on toe write the endings for the original manga well after the shows were already finished on TV. The anime endings were made up by the anime studios.
I was talking about the manga endings (although yes the anime ones are pretty crappy).
Ah, oops. I didn't mind Ranma's ^^
most of the Endings from BONES twist the plots at the end, i really dont like the idea
Of course Evangelion is the first thing that comes to mind.
Dragon ball z had a very bad end and GT, macross zero and Arjuna
I honestly only really ever hated Tower of Druaga Aegis of Uruk's end because it was all like "Sorry the evil god is in another tower" and the fact it ended with Kaaya betraying Jil and the others and went off with Neeba leaving everyone for dead.
That ending reminded me of the first mario games. "Sorry, the Princess is in another castle." But yea, it was a pretty lame ending, but not a real ending since it sets up for next season. Unlike some other animes where they seem like they'll be another season to wrap things up but there isn't. (i.e. Inuyasha, and right now, D.Gray-Man is looking that way too.)
That one really pissed me off. It's like they're so sure of another season that they didn't even try for any resolution, the dicks.
Gantz is the worst for me. It started out pretty cool, but as it progressed it started to get more and more boring. I stopped watching about 15 episodes in (god knows why I didn't stop earlier) because I got fed up with the story progression. They spent too much time talking and not enough time doing stuff that progressed the story, the objective, the mission, etc.
I personally dislike animes that doesn't end rather than ones that have horrible endings. You know that it's bad when they can't come up with even a half-imaginative ending for something
I did not have as bad of a reaction to the Eva ending. It was a WTF ending, but after a friend and I talked about it (He was a psych/socio student at the time) it made more sense. Even after adding the movies in. Meh. The one that gets me? Witch Hunter Robin. It had so much potential to really rock another 5-6 episodes, and they just dropped it like a flaming pile of poo. Just annoying. I was also disappointed in the Gurren Lagan ending, but it kind of made sense. Kind of. Simon had basically every good thing yanked out from under him, even in victory. I may get shot for this, but the Haruhi ending was somewhat disappointing. Now, with them doing another season, and the potential for 2-3 more after that, I am less disappointed, but still, it kind of left off there. And reading this thread, I am way behind. But I guess not being a watcher of fansubs or raw Japanese broadcast hurts me.
Oh, did forget to add that Death Note's ending made me sad. Light shouldn't have gotten punked like that. Maybe stretch it out a bit. He didn't need to win, but such a weak way for him to go. Maybe they should have made him a shinigami.
Neon Genesis Evangelion, great series until the absolute end of the show and had me just and quote "What The F***!".
Death Note had just a terrible and dire ending. Gundam Seed Destiny I thought it would be Shinn vs Kira final battle but it just ended on a weird strage story line. Dragonaut was also stupid. I also watched Neon Genesis and both movies and it just ended leaving you puzzled at times. Watched it over and over.
For me Wolf Rain and Gaogaigar both are great anime but all fail in the ending tat was made in OVA just to make the anime horrible.
Yeah, when Wolf's Rain ended I kinda went "Huh? What? That's it??".
Agreed about Wolf's Rain. That one ended horribly.
I didn't really mind Evangelion that much since the whole series is meant to get you into gear and think of what the conclusion is. In my opinion, every episode prepares you to logically think of what happens in the end and analyze it using what you're given before it. Still messed though. It's more like the Evas are simply there to fill up the philophical gaps in the plot.
The recent crap is Minami-ke season 2 and Zero no Tsukaima S3......the animation and storn took a nose dive ....
Zero No Tsukaima Season 3??? Are you serious??? I wouldn;t have thought someone would say this after the success in the first 2 seasons. I'll watch it myself. I still haven't started the series even after i saved all 12 episodes in my HD.
Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny went sour pretty much towards end. Seed was okay but Destiny could not justify anything -_-
I haven't watched any of the animes that your talking about. but one anime that COULD have had a better ending is Honey&Clover. Then again, i haven't watched Honey&Clover2. I think I should get on that. heh =w=''
Surprised there's so many school days haters here.. the whole point of the story was the endings :P
I don't hate it at all. I'm gonna watch it for the 4th time, including the Magical Heart Kokoro-chan OAV. I just consider it one of the most contraversal TV Anime's ever. Everyone does. So much so, School Days was waived off for a while due to the incident that occured in Japan with the whole thing about a girl killing her own father.
What is controversial about it?? It contains more mellodrama in one episode than a whole season of General Hospital or One Life to Live soap operas. The main character is a despicable pile of garbage who is portrayed in a way that is sooo unbelievable it laughable. And ever bit of tension and misunderstanding in the series could have be fixed by people just talking to each other like teenagers are quite capable of doing. It is mindless hedonistic entertainment that no one with a brain should find the slightest hint of enjoyment in unless it is the scene where Sekai guts Makoto.
Hmm, for horrible endings, School Days would be one. If not, Flame of Recca. They left everything on the edge of the cliff and ended abruptly.. Really one of the annoying ones..
I would have to say Kare Kano , although it just left it open , I don't think it's considered an ending more so than "We're not going to make any more episodes" . And I love School Days .
Venus vs. Virus comes to mind. The way it ended was...well it was one of the worse "endings" I've ever seen. I'll leave it at that. Another one that comes to mind is Eureka 7. The first half of the series was excellent, but the second half just went way downhill IMO.
LOL...Everyone here is saying Gundam SEED: Destiny had a bad ending. I can see why--because Gundam SEED itself didn't start off well to begin with. I stopped watching it after a few episodes. It just wasn't Gundam-y enough, in my opinion. Back on topic: I've never watched any of the series everyone else has mentioned. All the anime I've watch had decent endings, except the ending of Cowboy Bebop, which left me annoyed for a while. Oh yeah, there's also an anime movie called "Spriggan"...I don't remember the ending very well, but it was a huge waste of time. That's probably why I can't recall how it ended. Glad I had rented. :/

Hmm... to be frank, To me there's hardly any anime with ending that satisfy me out there... some where pushing over the edge to make a conclusive ending (GSD, Mai Hime), some doesn't really push, but let us dangling like an idiot with a terrible cliffhanger (Elfen Lied, NGE) But to say my most hated ending, all of the above, plus Shuffle! and RAVE both manga and anime, the anime left me thinking, "Why they even bother making this anime?!" while the manga made me felt stupid for reading them.. another manga that the ending i hate, Mx0, although this most probably due to Shonen Jump terminating the series, which is just beyond me... The story is awesome!
Anyone have idea who's the girl in the Post's picture?
First anime that came to my mind was 'School Days', but thinking over, it's actually a really refreshing (lol) ending. So, amongst the animes I've watched so far, I'll choose To-Love Ru. The last episode... was somewhat really disappointing. Felt it was too rushed, and they barely explained anything that was in the manga (as what I hear from my friends anyway). School Days San Gakki was also really horrible, after all that hype. Maybe because it was only two episodes >.>
Gundam Seed Destiny. Seriously, I'm still amazed I watched through all that, and am still wondering what on earth was all that crap about? Kira, likeable in the first series, got reduced into a GodHaxx character and a de-facto proxy for the pathetic producer Fukuda Mitsuo to tell his nonsense of a story, while turning Shinn into a much controversial non-protagonist at best, hated moaning Vader-mimic at worst. Sunrise gives him 50 episodes and he wastes 5 on recaps, especially two near the supposed climax at 41 and 47. WTH? Most unforgivable was the way the last episode was played out. In the first series, EA and ZAFT were on equal footing, by GSD, EA became cannon fodder for ZAFT, but even ZAFT got pwned by the Kira-led God-faction. I can say with confidence I can swallow almost any other so-called "train-wreck" anime endings with ease, all thanks to having to stomach the garbage that is GSD. I guess I became "immune" to "crap endings", because they can't get any worse than GSD, can they? XD
It would have to be Death Note and Fancy Lala I didn't finish the ending of Death Note, but I know what happens. In the end a man who was just trying to save the world dies. Kinda feels annoying after all that work he did. Fancy Lala because well...it was just so WTF to me. All that work and in the end she loses it without any warning? Ugh. That's all I can think of for now.
REIDEEN. A complete WTF ending with several major characters simply vanishing. I was punching walls for a couple of days at least...
Most have a bad ending. Plus one top of that it is an ending that blows your mind too.
