Science Portal calculates the cost of building a fully functional 1/1 scale Gundam - 724 million USD!
The break down of costs are available at Pink Tentacle.
BTW, this image of strike can be found together with the other Gundam stuff in the Gundam category.

Maybe he would build a Transformer and ask for some duel?
Heck, that could even be the birth of new entertainment.
Imagine:
- A huge arena;
- Gundams and Transformers from over the world;
- Even odds;
- Championship belts;
- Bets and pay-per-view;
etc.
Much better than boxing or wrestling. Of course it has to be developed and the idea promoted. ^^

Actually, it'll be safer considering it'll crash half the time (if not more often) and be too busy rebooting to actually be able to cause any destruction.

heh well if gates wanted im sure he could make between 3-6 but having money isnt everything since anyone, with the funds, that tried to build something like that would either be forced to stop by the gov or the gov would just take over the project at your expense.

But you can't control them Transformers!

Let's say you build some badass Transformer whose mind is like Megatron, then he just blasts you and runs away to rule the world while you die from plasma.

and that's no good

I'm afraid to say I'm not a gundam fan (*quickly looks around to avoid flying rotting vegetables*), although I do like mechs and zoids if you can consider that a mech.

Thats a lot of money! If I recall, I think I saw something about a guy in Alaska who was building a full size mech:

wait, so we figured out how to create a Minovsky-reactor/GN Reactor/Battery Powered Reactor (like the GAT/ZMF series)?

I mean, I guess it can run on nuclear... But that's like saying, we created a walking atomic bomb. Want to destroy it?

you know, rather than Gundams, shouldn't we build something a bit more realistic, like a Valkyrie from Macross?

a valkyrie is even more complicated than a gundam, it needs to be able to transform from a fighter into gerwalk mode and then into battroid...

Yeah, those costs only apply to a gundam that all it can do is walk. A valkyrie's transformation ability is gonna complicate and jack the costs up a helluva lot more lol.

Gernsback have black technology, but a M-6 Gas Turbine Engine Arm Slave MIGHT be possible.

But common... GERWALK fighters atleast would definitely make modern warfare easier/deadlier for pilots

As long as production and primary resources' costs (among others) will be high, the final price will be huge.
I'm sure that if various lobbies hadn't that much influence over the worldwide market, building a cheap, effective and efficient Gundam wouldn't be a problem.
And I'm sure that putting parts made from recycled materials (metals, especially) in the process would cut the costs dramatically.

even if one has the money and resources/talents to build a gundam, i doubt it will be able to fly. in fact i doubt it will even be able to lift itself up and walk. the anatomy, physiology, and mechanics of human body movement is hard to recreate on something that huge. ('~')

It would be great to see gundams flying around to guard the world instead of normal planes...cool

Btw, if the gundams were to start running about, there will sure to be energy insufficient problem (if runs on fuel). I guess the world should combine to start a project to form the "solar system" like the one in gundam 00 first. Then when the energy problem is solve, the rest of the problems can be easily solved as there will have ceaseless amout of energy to use while finding solutions though research....^^

i dunno, but i think virus or microchip weapon is far more efficient

i always wonder, why there is no MS penetrator? carryable by a human?

let's say, its just like snipe a gundam with "u name the overpowered sniper rifle",shoot by human hand

i mean when u fight a goliath, u don't have to be a goliath, u can be his cancer, or something that can kill it instantly and silently

Unfortunately Photon Reactors haven't been developed yet, at least not by public knowledge I don't think. So I guess it'd be powered by a nuclear Reactor. as for the price it to build it, it's to make a functional gundam, meaning it wouldn't necessarily have any weaponry or extra stuff so it's a reasonable price, afterall the expensive part is not the machinery, it's the weapons equiped to the machinery

The quote of 79,521,000,000 Yen from Science Portal is actually more than 725,000,000 USD. And I assume that the Gundam we're referring to is RX-78-2.

By comparing with US arsenal, RX-78-2 should cost *roughly* the same as 5 F-22 (137 million USD), 3 and a half of F-35 (200 million USD), less than 170 Abrams MBT (4.35 million USD), or 1 single B-2 stealth bomber (727 million USD or higher). (All costs are rough sources from Wikipedia, so they may not be very reliable)

Unless someone managed to find it tatically and/or strategically worthy, we can forget about seeing one built, unless it's built by a very, very rich fan with lots of backing/support. And don't even think about maitainence cost :P

I've gone a bit too specific there, but it's an interesting estimate for comparisons with existing equipments.
