2D Girls Come to Life

(Anime(109)
Tue 2008/11/18 09:30
I've never looked at a Candy Girl and felt scared but this scares me quite a bit...
Few more pics at Japanator.

Original text from Melo below.
Courtesy of Japanator I think there was an older post depicting a real-life person with anime-like facial proportions, but not to the startlingly degree of realism of artist Chris Scarborough If anyone fantasized about a 2D girl coming to life into the 3D world, maybe you should have second thoughts. I know I did. Someone hold me.....I'm scared. *shudder*

It would be better if people go into 2D worlds instead of having 2D come to 3D.
All you have to do is just draw them in. :3

2D and 3D are different for a reason. 2D non-realistic art is drawn simplified so that an artist can emphasize on the things that matter for the him/her. It is non-realistic, so 2D non-realistic art shouldn't be mapped into the existing equivalent in the 3D world. It will always look awkward/scary because it doesn't look "real"/"normal". What we can take from 2D and apply to to 3D people are the things that are originally modeled from 3D: clothing and until a certain extend hair. And for that we have cosplay.
But this does have one good application: scaring people. Imagine that waking you up in the middle of the night.

Usually things like this creep me out, but strangely enough I don't find it scary, though that candy girl lying in the snow kinda unnerves me a little. I don't find the other scary, Though I don't 100% like them either.

This and Candy Girls scary? They're nothing compared to the horrors I've seen. One visual novel my friend showed me has a big guy with really feminine displays. The cruel part is that the video I saw was supposed to be a Wakamoto Norio-san video. Traps, I tell you. --'

I think this one is still a little bit acceptable. I've seen much scarier ones.
But for some reason, candy girls are okay, just because they still don't have a real skin.

I think the artist behind this... thing... took the 2D source material too literally. I have seen three dimensional realizations of the look done that did not seem at all creepy, such that one could not quite put a finger on why they seemed slightly inhuman.

As for candy girls... it seems to be their limp lifelessness that makes them a bit eerie to me.

If a 2D girl comes to life, she will have to become proportioned, otherwise nightmares will only come from it.

I don't think I'd want to see 2-D be mapped out in 3-D proportions and whatnot. Quite eerie.. and frightening... o___o;;

"If anyone fantasized about a 2D girl coming to life into the 3D world, maybe you should have second thoughts"

Yes I have, no, i dont have second thoughts (id imagine them closer to what 3d girls look like in videogames,or similar to what the candy girls look like) and yes, i find this really creepy (waaaay too realistic, its like, the eyes pop out of the girls' heads and dont [in my opinion] imitate 2d anime girls)

the furrowed eyebrows really stop me from thinking she's so creepy that i can't sleep. but what creeps me out is that unkown off camera that could make a person who creates nightmares looks so frightened.

does it got to be that realistic?... she looks like...related to a nocturnal animal or smiegel from LOTR (::shudder::)..... aren't figs 2d to 3d? They look pretty successful in reproducing the 2d image.
