Folks who live or have visited Japan may occasionally see people in public pretending to play golf while waiting for a train or bus. They either swing their arms, mobile phone or in some cases wet umbrellas. This poster on the subway asks folks to "do it in the yard." Most Japanese don't have a yard though.
A poster serves as kind reminder to where you are and what you should be doing. We should have lot of those here in NYC.
agreed
LOL... funny poster, yeah would be nice to see posters with a sense of comedy everywhere actually
lol. on practicing swings on the train stop. wonder if someone ever got an umbrella to the eye because of this. ^^ I used to play golf myself, unfortunately I might have already forgotten how to swing properly with the long hiatus.
lol..... In Los Angeles, we have a lot of Korean-Americans who love the game of golf. Even when there is a post-season for sports such as basketball, baseball or football, the Koreans have a game of golf on TV.
wow~ tat's an interesting sign-board.. O__O
Gotta like these sort of posters - any on tasshonben? :D
Wow I didn't know golf is such a popular sport in Japan. Do you play golf too, Danny?
I thought that guy was spraying the other salaryman with a hail of golf balls at first. He's got great form, doesn't move his head once.
same thought those round things were golf balls but it didn't make sense... a golf ball following your stick?
I have never seen one practicing with an umbrella. I'm guilty as charged in a way. I sometimes practice my putting. No, never with a wet unbrella.
Wouldn't other Japanese people laugh at that person if he do his imaginary golf swing in public??? Imagine a person practice sumo wrestling in public without any opponent. It would be hilarious.
haha love it!
Instructional poster about proper behavior in public, or thinly-veiled sexual innuendo? ;)
So I am guessing that a good golf swing is very important in japan ? And this reminds me of the opening animation for Tower of Druaga. Reason why, at the end of the opening, Melt is practicing his golf swing at the train station as well =D
Wow that's interesting.
There's no need for posters like that here, due to a distinct lack of very many people. But that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Lols now why can't we have more posters like that in Singapore.
LOL! While I never seen anyone practicing golf swing in public before.
It's actually a way of appearing to be high class. Some people own golf clubs or ski gear and never actually do the sports too :P
my daddy likes golf ^^ I don't tho lol but it's dangerous to swing anything in public like that anyways o_o;
Why is this such a popular thing to do. Cant really figure it out.
I've seen some people do that while waiting for the train over here in the States. However, they're playing some golfing game downloaded from the app store in the iPhone. xD Such great uses for an accelerometer. :S
I understand the poster and why people shouldn't practice golf wherever, but when you got the urge, you have to go forward with it.
I've seen one in the subway train that tells people (probably aiming at a specific gender) to not swing on the poles... maybe thats why more and more poles are disappearing from trains in Toronto...
That some hella bored person if she swings anything pretending he or she thinks the area is a golf field. XD
lolwut at poster ^^ doesn't it cramped in tokyo? he would hit some random people with his umbrella..
Here, no people does such of thing. People seems to be shy or whatever...
I agree. Never seen someone do this here, but if they did I would follow them home and pee in their yard
Yup, never even heard of something like this. Seems completely ridiculous.
I totally approve of "doing it in the yard"!
I also approve of this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9Gjd_EAa64
>This poster on the subway asks folks to "do it in the yard." Most Japanese don't have a yard though. LOL. So they try to substitute one problem with another...
hhahahah I really like the fourth picture. Is there a obsession for golf in Japan?
amazing :P Is someone doing this at the street ? ^^
I've never gone golfing (unless you count miniature golf) so I wouldn't do anything like that. Well even if I did, I still wouldn't do that. I don't see the point of doing it. I would assume the point is to see if their form is good which would be difficult to do if there's no actual ball to hit.
Now I can really see why Pangya is so popular in Japan as well.
I never knew Japanese people were interested in golf o.o
i've never done the golf thing with my umbrella but with a gun....^^"
I can't imagine anyone swinging an umbrella on a platform. Actually, it looks like the person on the sign is hitting eggs, because in the picture 4, the person looking at him has something that looks like a broken egg on his shoulder.
Lol~ that's a nice observation xD
The 4th pic looks like its snowing with snowballs ^^
Only time I played golf was on the Wii...
Now I want an umbrella extension for the wiimote :)
haha, i used to do that. Swing, Swing, Swing....OH S!@T, im so sorry!
lol [This poster on the subway asks folks to "do it in the yard." Most Japanese don't have a yard though.] You'd think they'd know themselves better, making a slip like that... I suppose more people will play golf in train stations now, just to irk whoever designed that poster:p
What are those circles in the picture?
They are water from the wet umbrella.
Aww that's such a cute sign XD I didn't realize what it was implying at all though. I'd be really baffled if I saw that without a Danny explanation.
Hahahahaha lolz!
Lolols, why practice golf in a place like that though? O_o;; Gues I'll never be able to understand, since I don't play it.
I hope they don't do it during rush hour in Japan .X_X.
lol there is lots of sign/boards around here and some of them are just unbelievably funny lol ^^
Yep, some of them are very funny. Especially if it has 'Engrish' in it. LOL
I used to play golf... online... LOL Pangya is awesome! Especially Kooh!
No conderation for those who are close. Water can ruin swade.
Isn't it just a poster to warn people with wet umbrellas to not splatter others with water while shaking excess water? The human symbol does look like a golf swing >.> Maybe its a warning of "Do not golf fling with wetter umbrellas, may splatter humans"
We all do weird things...
And golf course memberships are pretty steep from what I heard. Recalled watching such people satiate their lust to shoot some balls at those indoor golf ranges.
First they asked us to do it on the mountain ( http://www.dannychoo.com/detail/mac/eng/image/7851/Japanese+Trains.html ) and now they ask us to do it in the yard. It looks like whoever is in charge of making those signs is an exhibitionist or at least a peeping tom :P
This golf thing must really be common and spawned many complaints for them to make this poster.
. So... in Sinapore they discourage urination in the elevators and failing to flush toilets. And in Japan, they discourage public swinging of umbrellas like golf clubs. I still think I prefer Japan (^.^) .
This act spawned out of boredom actually caused a lot of ruckus that the government needed to stick posters on the area to remind people not to do it?! Weird~ x_x
Wow...Amazed as usual...Can't believe they have to do this....Should be a real problem to do so...
I used to do that in Mexico , except I would use my granfathers cane .
When me and my grandpa would wait for the bus in Mexico I would use his cane and swing it like a golf club .
nyahah. "do it in the yard."
