I just think it's a never ending contest of who can change it the most between the people who hate him and the people who love him and the people who actually try to make it correct.

Ahah...that's hilarious! And not just one, but all five spots! Interesting how two of 'em are One Piece, and even more so is Mai-HiME - I don't think it was all that popular.

I suspect that it's actually some sort of editing war between two people who are can't agree. Can't explain it otherwise.

If the English Wikipedia results really show the American usage of this site, I cannot help but smile that so many contact Wikipedia to update entries about ... Wikipedia!
Isn't that a bit like buying a book without pictures or diagrams called 'How to read'?

It would be interesting to discover the more popular searches for each country, rather than just the edited pages.

anime has already fully integrated itself into japanese culture with its unique, very very unique style.

sure a lot of non-japs might start wailing and flaming an episode or series that didn't go the way they like, but its not like they've got their own local anime-wannabe crap to flame.

There's lot of war going on in America about religion.

Atheists versus theists
Evolution supporters versus creationists (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/creationism)
Bible Code (http://skepdic.com/bibcode.html)
Judgment Day/Apocalypse

It's mostly because of political power; Christians have more power in Congress, and also in the majority of states. For example, you can't be a witness in a court trial without making an oath to "God," which atheists won't do. I haven't never seen anyone say "No," to the oath, so I'm not sure what happens.

This is what happens with a democracy. *rolls eyes*

wow the english ones are pretty boring compared to Japan even though none of those are anime that I watch, George W Bush is probably updated the most because of over half the country not liking him now.

That's pretty misleading, though. For one thing, only certain types of people will edit Wiki pages (read: geeky). It would be like conducting a survey about "What music do British people like?" but only asking people in infant schools. It's a tremendously biased cross-section. I mean, ooh, who'd a thought that the sorts of Japanese people that would edit Wiki would also like anime!

Then there's the issue that the English Wiki is going to be getting edited by English people, Welsh people, Northern Irish people, Scottish people, Americans, Canadians, New Zealanders, Australians and many other locations. I'm sure that if was a uniquely American page, that only people with US IPs could edit, then anime would figure a lot higher since it's more popular there than it is in the other English-speaking places. Even then, Wiki is much more popular in the west than it is in Japan so, in other words, all sorts of people will edit it in the west whereas only more "hardcore" (read: geeky) people will edit it in Japan.

I mean, just out of interest, how many of you actually know that anime is seen as very geeky (and/or just for kids) in Japan too? I know that when I was younger I used to think that in Japan it was seen as a normal thing to like, like football in England, but it really isn't. It's seen as normal to watch Ghibli and certain anime are regarded as iconic, like Doraemon, and will be watched by people of all ages. Beyond that, though, if you're any older than about 16, you're seen as a huge geek.

Probably because the people who bother changing the entries care have too much free time. >_<; I'm more interested in why the French Wiki changes Algeria so often.

It may be because it's edited by french speaking algerians as wel as french people of algerian origins who can have very different opinions about colonisation, war, etc... Also those old stats show only about 2K edits for the article about Algeria which is not a lot for the description of a country BTW, single users often make dozens or hundreds of edits on some articles , that doesn't necessarily mean much, it includes correction of typos etc..
