While I would gladly have my car be an Itasha, modifying it to look like one of these is something that I'd prefer not to do. The drivers must have a hell of a time turning corners. Could be useful during snowy weather though. More pics at Pink Tentacle via Japan Probe.
Haha, The top 2 look like they are made to do some kind of scooping.
For me it will be an itasha, of course!! Here in Spair there are lots of "bakalas" or chavs, as they´re called in UK, and they do horrible thing to their cars. I´d love to have stickers of Konata, Rei or Yoko on my car. Hope i´ll get it fixed for Xmas.
Itasha yay, those custom cars nay.
Dang. Looks too weird. I'd just get one of those Top Gear reviewed sports car, Japanese prototype cars or those modified ones in TFTF - Tokyo Drift
That's called "Bozo Style", because that's mod which is usually done by Bozozoku or motorbike gang in Japan. But...i will choose itasha over Bozo Style
"Bozo Style" kinda says it all..... (I'm making a reference to an American character Bozo the Clown, i.e., clown cars.)
The Silvia Super Silhoutte was the trend setter
um... wow That's all I got.
modifying car to be as above would be a bit over prefer to modify cars for performance and street race style think of turbo, NOS, skirting, spoilers, neon lights, NFSU, Tokyo drift, AE86, smell of burning rubber. oh yea
Wow, those looks like some cars from speed racer or something.... I don't think those cars are practical on the road try going up a hill or hump and there goes your bumper ^o^ I can forsee a custom mod itasha coming soon (^_^)V
How in god's name would you drive up or down a slope? I hope they never make it over to San Fransisco.
not my cup of PG tips tea ....... prefer custom design car, but not like these ^^;
haaha don't think will be road legal
The mod are way too extreme.
LOL cool... In a very weird way... I don't see the practical use of these cars...
LOL! Looks like gundam cars.
Holy crap.. They sure take up lotsa parking space. I would spend money for itasha but not such extreme(weird) customs.
remind me of cars from sentai series from when I was a kid.. btw, what are those fragile looking bars used for? don't tell me they're for exhaust o_O
You're right. They're exhausts. And there are much more extreme-looking ones too, for example, star-shaped, etc.
Well, at least they don't sell these kind of body kits around my areas - i'd probably loose a few on a bump or two
Quite over the top, and the exhaust syetm and spoilers are just crazy.
these are so wrong. japanese custom cars are those fitted with awesum widebodykits and killer offset wheels.
Is that even street legal? I can see all those poor grannies and children scooped up already...
Itasha all the way~
lol they remind me of those mean looking Dekatora trucks you posted a while back: http://www.dannychoo.com/adp/eng/1153/Dekotora.html
Itasha, certainly. If I had to choose that is. Still, interesting stuff...
These things make Itashas look discreet.
that's one of the most weirdest custom car design I've ever seen ^^;
That's one of the subculture there, right? Like how they have the intercooler on the outside...
It's not intercooler. It's oil cooler.
they look dangerous to me.. dun wanna drive near of of those.. ^ ^;
Definitely Itasha! What are those feelers for... lol They want multi-coloured smoke to come out of those pipes? smoke stunts on land... XD
looks like the lego cars i would make when i was a kid. try to make em as pointy and arrow like as possible, arrow = lightspeed.
Lol, these mods look strange.
These aren't even aesthetically pleasing let alone performance enhancing. I guess they have "interesting" in a way. Thing of beauty. http://elkgrovemustang.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10062/Shelby-WCC_Mustang_Driver_Front_3-4.jpg
Not as good as the new Shelby Mustang Terlingua buddy: http://speedhunters.com/archive/2008/10/24/driving-impression-gt-gt-nfs-edition-shelby-terlingua-mustang.aspx
I'd have to skip mods- Itasha mods would just get my car keyed, and custom mods would look sorta dumb on my car. That, and there are too many rough roads and steep curbs around here.
looks weird. but hey who knows? maybe one of them can help u nab a hot chick like megan fox.
lol these cars are more than meets the eye. ^^;
Just gimme the car in Mad Max 2: Road Warrior, and I'll be happy. ^^
It looks like a car from transformers that got stuck in the middle of transforming and never got to finish.
Itasha for me, definitely. I don't even have a clue where would I park any of these custom cars.
Those look incredibly useless. Naw, I'd prefer either a Hywire itasha, or a Frankencar. Like, taking an old classic car frame, and refitting it with modern fuel-efficient and geektastic innards.
Those cars look really weird and totally unsuitable for road usage. In fact they look like they can only be used for racing on completely level ground. However I got the feeling that they are just used to look cool. I guess the definition of cool depends on the eyes of the beholder. The idea to use them to clear roads of snow is a funny one, but it's totally unrealistic. Snow appears to be light and like powder when you make a snowball out of it. However when you try to move it with machinery like this, then you build up pressure which will briefly melt the snow and it will become very heavy. In fact it will become so heavy that it can bend and crack metal. Just for comparision, a train snowplow weights 50 tons! (and it's not much wider than a car) I know it's meant as a joke and I make jokes like that too. I just wanted to inform you before you get any funny ideas and the joke ends up on you ;)
No better way to pick up trash in the city of Tokyo, them to do it in style. They seriously appear like they could vacuum trash, as they travel the streets.
custom car, but not on the level of stupidity as the one above... I mean, seriously, go over a bump in the road with those cars, I dare you... Itasha is just too much for me... I mean, I thought the pokemonn cars (a bettle dressed likea pikachu) was a fun idea, but still... I am not brave to drive that. I rather have a tachikoma, that would surely get me to my destination without being bored
How do you drive those things? O_o
Can you say: "Road Hazzard?"
No option for neither? :(
Those are some sexy snow plows.
Ouch... C'mon Danny-san, don't generalize these things into the "japanese custom cars" category... These are Bosozoku inspired cars. As to how they go around corners... well... they drift them. Usually. And these actually pretty much took the style to an extreme, they're not usually so radical (maybe except for the exhausts, i've seen worse)
Stupid poll. It made me accidentally choose Buchanan. T_T
I chose Custom Mod, but not like the mods in the above pics. O_O
I'd go Itasha over this. Doesn't look like you could even drive these on a regular street - every little bump would scrape your fenders! BTW what do you drive, Danny?
are they designed for a specific purpose, like scooping up the girls? haha gosh pimp my ride's gonna have a field day with this
I would go for Itasha.. The art on the cars are way better-looking than modded cars.. Besides, there are so many road humps in Singapore; you bound to damage your modded car pretty badly..
These aren't supposed to practical, they're just over the top fun! Sometimes you just create something for the hell of it. I love these crazy cars and salute the guys with the imagination and skill to construct them. Rock on!
You'd have to pay me to drive one of those.
They're like exaggerated dragsters...as if they were to scoop something up...XD
japanese stupidity at MAX power!!!
Itasha is better. These kinds of car mods are fail.
I can't find the words to describe these machines @___@
nah...I like my car look cool and unlike any others, but not in this way
These seem more painful than Itasha to me...
I'd rather mod my car (not as extreme as those pictures though XD) than have an Itasha.
I custom mod my car like wheels and engine parts... but nowhere to that extend.
First thing that came to my mind was "What were these guys smoking?"...
what do they do when they encounter a speed bump?
I'd prefer one like the Mazda Atenza presented at the TAS2008 (see Nihon Car for that) I had already seen these before and find it funny the way they make the fronts long for scooping pedestrians crossing the road. You only get 2 bronken legs instead of ran over
The only modifying I would do to my car is installing bullet-resistant glass and kevlar on it -_-
Uh....okay.. ^^; Itasha FTW!
I don't think these would fly in the U.S.
haha, they would need super flat tarmac!
this looks like some serious Carmageddon have been going on.
What the heck are those pipes sticking out of the cars?! Personally, i prefer itasha anyday.
I'd prefer an Itasha any day. I got a idea. Get a white 2000 Chevy Malibu and put a large bar code on the side "Generic Car." I have seen someone with a skull instead of a police emblem on a retired black police Ford Crown Victoria. Perfect. I still want my Caprice back and make it into an Itasha.
maybe be better to write the words 'acme'
Wow, just wow. Would the pipes in the center of the hood hinder the vision for driving. One would constantly see the pipes while driving on the road.
Omg these are terrible.lool. I like Toyko Drift ones or the one from Inital D the one used to deliver Tofu while drifting. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee, keys to igintion like gloves to Ali. To and fro the water in the sea the sunrise is my peace.
I'd love to see these feeatured on the show Top Gear jus seeing the kind of reactions from Jeremey Clarkson, Richard hamond and James May would be priceless or even to see the STIG drive one XD that would be brilliant.
How about some trucks too? Japanese truck-drivers are awesome; living 2 meters off the ground in a decked-out space. Okay..I glamorise it, but I felt like king of the road sitting up in the passenger seat of a truck while I was hitching around Japan.
Car mods are nice but, there are just too original for my tastes.. so Itasha it is! ^^
NO NO NO NOOOO!! thats terrible T_T they look like old nasty.... sumthing xD to see what a car should look like google nomukens skyline r34 xD yea baby car right there...
actually on further thought just image google nomuken it should be a white car :/
OMG. THESE CARS ARE BOMBBB.
I have seen weird cars in my Hotwheels collection adn those ones take the cake.
I would really like to know where they get some of the custom panels from, it would be great fun to make one here in the states. I love crazy customs, and Japan is full of them. I think the are all awsome.
