Japanese Custom Cars

(Japan(87)
Mon 2008/11/10 21:26
While I would gladly have my car be an Itasha, modifying it to look like one of these is something that I'd prefer not to do. The drivers must have a hell of a time turning corners. Could be useful during snowy weather though.

For me it will be an itasha, of course!! Here in Spair there are lots of "bakalas" or chavs, as they´re called in UK, and they do horrible thing to their cars. I´d love to have stickers of Konata, Rei or Yoko on my car. Hope i´ll get it fixed for Xmas.

That's called "Bozo Style", because that's mod which is usually done by Bozozoku or motorbike gang in Japan.

But...i will choose itasha over Bozo Style

I'd have to skip mods- Itasha mods would just get my car keyed, and custom mods would look sorta dumb on my car. That, and there are too many rough roads and steep curbs around here.

Those cars look really weird and totally unsuitable for road usage. In fact they look like they can only be used for racing on completely level ground. However I got the feeling that they are just used to look cool. I guess the definition of cool depends on the eyes of the beholder.

The idea to use them to clear roads of snow is a funny one, but it's totally unrealistic. Snow appears to be light and like powder when you make a snowball out of it. However when you try to move it with machinery like this, then you build up pressure which will briefly melt the snow and it will become very heavy. In fact it will become so heavy that it can bend and crack metal. Just for comparision, a train snowplow weights 50 tons! (and it's not much wider than a car)
I know it's meant as a joke and I make jokes like that too. I just wanted to inform you before you get any funny ideas and the joke ends up on you ;)

Ouch... C'mon Danny-san, don't generalize these things into the "japanese custom cars" category...

These are Bosozoku inspired cars. As to how they go around corners... well... they drift them. Usually.

And these actually pretty much took the style to an extreme, they're not usually so radical (maybe except for the exhausts, i've seen worse)

I'd prefer an Itasha any day. I got a idea. Get a white 2000 Chevy Malibu and put a large bar code on the side "Generic Car."

I have seen someone with a skull instead of a police emblem on a retired black police Ford Crown Victoria. Perfect. I still want my Caprice back and make it into an Itasha.

How about some trucks too? Japanese truck-drivers are awesome; living 2 meters off the ground in a decked-out space. Okay..I glamorise it, but I felt like king of the road sitting up in the passenger seat of a truck while I was hitching around Japan.

I would really like to know where they get some of the custom panels from, it would be great fun to make one here in the states. I love crazy customs, and Japan is full of them. I think the are all awsome.
