The movie poster for the 2009 Astro Boy compared to the Japanese original. Hmmmm. I think I need some time getting used to the 2009 movie version. Via Akaa. Did anybody get round to watching the latest anime series of Tetsuwan Atom? Was quite awesome.
japanese verion is the best >.<
love astro boy.. he's cute!
well.. Astro boy was a part of me growing up through my older brother... . And, that new astro boy concept... it just doesn't feel right....
New Astro Boy looks sooo bizzare if you know what the original looks like. Taking bets on which way this poll's going to go!
I feel exactly the same. I saw the top pic and was like 'whaaaaat?'
I never got into astro boy, and pretty much felt the same. It just doesn't look right. It's bad enough I had to sit and watch things I loved get butchered, but now I have to watch it happen to things I never got into as well. It's like a preemptive strike to keep me from being interested in it ever.
lol he looks like Jimmy Neutron! Btw how did they get Astro boy from tetsuwan atom?
I was going to say the same thing. ^^; also this new Astroboy has a shirt. ^^
I was along the same line of thought as you two when I saw this... ^^;
It's actually in the original Japanese lyrics fro the first song IIRC.
It's actually in the original Japanese lyrics fro the first song intro IIRC.
Tetsuwan Atomu is translated as "Might Atom" or "Iron Atom" there you go. Hope I helped.
There are some cartoon/anime characters that should never be in 3D. This might be a good example....
The original is way better in looks than the 3d one.
Japanese all the way, the 3D face looks so strange, doesn't even look like he's pumped up for action.
At least he's not a real life caucasian actor.
>.< I know right!
LOL that would be hilarious! Flying around in that Speedo-lookin' thing ;D ow ow!
HE'S WEARING A SHIRT AND PAIR OF PANTS ASTROBOY DOES NOT WEAR SHIRTS OR PANTS I expect it to be a typical Cars, Finding Nemo, Over the Hedge any other CGI movie of the week with the Astro Boy name plastered all over it to sell tickets.
I know right? maybe the producers thought it wouldn't be prudent to have a half-naked preteen boy (even if it is a cyborg) prancing around in a pair of red rocket boots and Speedos?
looks like pixar had a hand in making the 2009 movie.
it's Imagi animation which is largely Hong Kong based, but has two other studios I think; one in Japan and one in the USA.
The 3D looks weird and I'm somewhat not used to @@
I really love the latest Tetsuwan Atom anime series even though I've only seen the first and bits of the second season. The CG 2009 Astro Boy version doesn't have that "edge" that the original Japanese version got. Feels too wholesome and PG13 to me...
Smae here. I'll be sticking to the Jap version. Astro Boy is cool as long as he's done by the japs.
I wish they'd stuck to 2-D-animation instead of 3D.
Nyeegh, 3D version looks so strange, especially from that head-on angle. I don't like the way most 2D designs transition into 3D.
Yup, animated films now seem to mean 3d animation. I miss 2d animated films. Well at least japanese animated films are still 2d. I can only think of .hack Trilogy for Japan. Anyway is Astro Boy going to be wearing clothes for the whole duration of that movie?
The 2009 version looks too much like Jimmy Neutron and what happen to the other spike of haiir on his right side of the head?
Look above his ear. It's barely there, but you can still slightly see it.
Oh wow. Looks like something from Pixar.
According to wiki - it's made by the same ppl who did TMNT. Freddie Highmore, the star in Finding Neverland, will voice Astroboy. I reckon the 3-D version will take off and earn the original Astroboy new fans.
Kinda looks like Meet the Robinsons animation.
ewwwwww.....leave my childhood alone >.<
Imagi Animation people! Not Pixar lol, though it's cool that Pixar is well known. Go Wall-E! Anyway Imagi did TMNT as Matsu mentioned above, as well as the upcoming Gatchaman CG movie to come I think in the same year as the Astroboy. Probably means that at least one of the two was made in either their HK or Japan studio, unless they just have a great amount of manpower to make both films at the same time in the same studio.
No one is saying that it's made by Pixar. Only that it looks like something they, Pixar, would produce.
The 3D rendering makes Astro Boy look too "white". Not surprising since they did TMNT
the big question is....will astro boy ever get laid?
they should make 3d look 2d like in recent anime i.e gundam and macross
Remake can't never outdo the original is what I think. But I wouldn't mind watching it when the 2009 version comes out ^^;
Funny why does the movie version looks like the those nickoloden children shows? or more specifically Jimmy Neutron?
*frowns* ...I'm not exactly excited about it, since one of Atom's defining characteristics is Tezuka's drawing style itself (the anime remake looks like a lot more like that). I guess I'll give it a try, it can't be as bad as the Dragon Ball live action movie... right? *prays*
They gave him more clothes
The original looks more interesting to me. Well, I never see any of the Astro Boy animation Hehehehehe....
Well, it looks better than that Dragonball movie.
Astro Boy's face seems totally off! :(
I like the Japanese original more
Yeah, the original version is much better. And i wonder why they gave him more clothes, i wonder...
at least it's not a live action movie..can't bear the image of a boy wearing hotpants and red boots..
only got to see the black and white one on Cartoon Network...still don't know much about it though...
Original Tetsuwan atom all the way.. Well at least Astroboy got a better treatment in terms of film remake than Goku @__@
I loved the newer tv animation version. The west obv got a different op song to that lol, but it was so awesome. It was pulled from CBBC for being 'too dark' though.... bloody annoying.... They repeated some episodes last year sometime though. I'm not looking forward to this movie... I'll have to wait for a trailer to pass true judgement though... The nose looks ok, but he just looks weird...
Too dark?! They should watch the 80's version! People and robots dying left and right!
obviously, everything that comes originally from japan in relation to animation will have our blessings..., however DO place my bets on IMAGI studio!!! they did an outstanding job with Ninja Turtles!!!! an Astro boy would not be different!!!
Umm... is that a poster for Jimmy Neutron movie?? Oh no wait it says Astro Boy! >_<
Omg.. Its Jimmy Neutron! Oh, I wonder if Astroboy is gonna say "Gotta Blast~!<3" Urghh.
This movie looks like the dragon ball one, horrible.
WTF! is that 2009 version? just stick to the original and its all perfect~
woah creepy i must say... *shudders
I have seen both new and original TV series, and have to say I prefer the original 80's version. Maybe it's just my fond childhood memories that make it seem better ?
I admit that the original one is still the best, but I think it would a fresh idea if I could see Astro Boy being animated in 3D. I have high hopes for Imagi. Lets hope they make the mark.
They used to show the Japanese version with English dubs here... T'was awesome! The 2009 movie version is... Astro looks so different!
recently are many animes turning in western movies, and its is not good thing, like Dragon Ball... argh.... well... its wait to see...
The Dragonball movie might be good. Might. But you're right, enough's enough. Hollywood's taking it too far. I mean how are they gonna pull off a live action Cowboy Bebop!?
I choose the japanese version over the 2009 version
Movie Astro Boy's smirk looks disturbingly condescending. It's as if he himself doesn't think highly of his own movie.
It just doesn't look right at all. Would watch the original again anyday.
i would like to see a post apocalyptic astro boy movie. a grimey story where astro boy doesnt have anyone helping him and small bands of humans fight off a master race of robots.
I like the original Astro Boy head better.
Something tells me that Michael Jackson is going to be disappointed with the new movie. (insert whistling here)
This poster of the AstroBoy movie doesn't look that great but the image on the Wikipedia article of Tetsuwan Atom reassures me, a little...
I hope astro-boy shows good action scenes like TMNT.
I wish they stop doing remakes. Go think something new, if you can!
Yea, either that or if doing a remake, stick to the original drawings. Like Evangelion. The latest Evangelion movie remakes are simply zomg.
I grew up with Naruto, FMA, and Ghost in the Shell. I did watch the 80s version, really cool. Guess we'll just have to see how this turns out.
Vote for Original. It's hard to see the changes, especially if it is something that has been part of your childhood.
Astro boy......looks so Jimmy Neurtron-ish....Kind of also reminds me of Disney's the Robinsons.... Blah....He looks too much like some 50s version of a CGI version of "Leave it to Beaver".
That look on his face. I think he just realized how much that movie's gonna suck.
