Only recently started to dive into the Death Note world am am loving every bit of it - even my wife likes it!
For those who dont know, Death Note originally started out as manga back in 2004 (I think) and then made its way to being an Anime series and then onto the big screen.

The story revolves around a young chap called Light Yagami who chances upon a notebook known as "Death Note". Anybody whose name is written in the notebook dies. Light decides that he would write names of criminals in the notebook and rid the world of evil. The default method of dying is a heart attack unless otherwise specified in the notebook. When criminals around the world start to drop like flies by a heart attack, the boys in blue start to think something fishy is going on...

I love the Anime and recommend you have a peek to see if its your cuppa tea at YouTube. Some of the results are clips form the live action films.

Was just looking through the Japanese wikipedia for Death Note and see that one can buy the Death Note from stationers in China. The book lists the full rules and apparently people buy it for stress relief by writing names in it of people they hate!

I needed a higher daily dose of Death Note and went out to buy the whole set of Manga. I dont get much time to read these days and have made a point of getting back to reading more - starting with manga.
I dont know if I mentioned it before but I picked up a lot of my Japanese through reading manga titles like Ranma, Crayon Shin Chan and City Hunter. Reading Manga is a great way to pick up colloquial Japanese. Its different from watching Anime as you can learn the kanji at the same time.
I guess its better late than never. This for for those looking some some coolsome anime ...(more)

The DeathNote artbook is amazing. I've not read or seen any of the manga or anime, but I have seen the artbook. I'll have to pick it up during the next con season.

Death Note is one of the most amazing animes airing in Japan right now, IMO. I'm a big fan of Light, just because he's so twisted. I didn't read any of the manga though. Then again, I'm not really a manga person.

I believe it went manga --> film --> anime.

But yeah, Death Note is pretty neat. Most people complain that it got crappy after volume 7, and while the quality of the story does go down, it's not bad. That being said, I've not yet finished it. I heard the ending was disappointing :(

But yeah, it's one of the more quality shounen titles out there. The anime is kind of boring because I already know the story, but the animation is nice and the show can be fairly entertaining, so I'm still watching it. I also like Light's voice. So evil >:]

I love to watch Death Note ;) I'm a big fan of Light because of his intelligent. I didn't have chance to read manga because I don't read chinese.

Actually enjoyed the anime that's been out so far. Now that it's licensed here I'll definitely be spending some cash on the show

I really love the manga. It only good through the first arc in my opinion. Huge yagami fan, disappointed in the end manga.

Got intrigued when I watched the anime, took it as a challenge on how to nail Light, BUT gave up on the series when the author start to reveal L's identity (ard episode 7)and the reasons L gave for so doing are pretty stupid or childish shld I say. From that point onwards, it gradually killed my mood to follow the series.
(ID #43044) Posted on 2007/01/16 04:49
As some have already mentioned the manga does indeed take a dramatic toll in terms of story quality after volume 7.

The second arc reads like a later and very rushed addition that the author created in attempt to extend the series. However the ending is nothing but utterly disappointing for a manga that contained such a wealth of potential in the beginning.

I am really disgruntled how the author had such a cop out, typical, but most of all a cliched ending. It makes me want to sell my manga to Bookoff, but I love the illustrator's work so I can't commit such a sin.

this is a question

seeing that you display your figures out in the open, how do you clean them when they get dusty?

how about a post on figure maintenance?

Have you seen the live action movie of Death Note Danny? Outside of Japan its quite hot, I only saw the 2nd Movie here in my country and the theater was full.

Luckly there is the anime so I have watched a bit of that bf seeing the movie so i knew what was going on.

How was the response in Japan were there a lot of Fans of the series? I think the Actress for Misa is quite popular there yes?

I read a bit of the Chinese version of the Manga and some of the words they use are quite hard to understand... for me at least.

...i dont like particularly like death note...though it somewhat contains a message of being the 'protector of justice' (...sounds very Emiya Shirou...) and sth about 'this world is rotten', i dun enjoy the message of...tha main chara talking about 'being the new God of tha world'...

1) very controversial, or even offending, most religions (me as a Christian..)
2) he cant =_= just by killin' bad ppl doesnt make u a super-natural divine being...

Death Note is one of the top notch exciting manga made. However I felt the momentum died in the middle.

The release of it is a bit weird.

Death Note is one of the more interesting storylines in anime nowadays...I like characters, the story and the animation quality that doesn't seem to drop...Light is one of those characters you would like now, and really hate later...I'm looking forward to how the anime can stay true to the manga...

Finished the manga a long while ago. Recently re-read it since the new movie has come out.
It was long predicted that an anime series would come out, but to be honest it is not that interesting.
I also found that the story is dragging on after vol.8 (dont want to spoil it :P)

an outside question:
I am watching code geass but it's in mkv format, my ibook is running very hot and frame skipping continuously. is there any way of make it more watchable?

Tired but Sci-fi hyperactive Soul...
Its a highly addictive manga, with a good script to begin with...

But, too pressure and too long for me.
Plus, its quite dull to see 2 chess player calculating each move before the clock clicks out...

Well, that;s how i feel for Death Note... :)

Same here... I need to have more pleasure reading. City Hunter is a favorite for both my fiancee and me. How about Catseye have you read or watch it?

vertico - I'm watching the same thing. I'm using the latest VLC player to watch it. If you're having issues with that, try MPlayer. If you're STILL having issues, my guess is it would be a ram or cache issue. Sometimes that happens to me with certain mkv files. Viewing them smaller helps to a degree....

All,
I was trying not to look at the comments for this post in the event taht there would be a spoiler. Looks like most are disappointed with the end - but dont tell me!

Edward,
Know of catseye but never got the chance to read it.

Vertigo,
I use VLC - you may want to try.

Aurora, wildarmsheero,
Thanks for the corrections ^^

Akiraman,
Have only seen the first of the live action movies - want to see the second. Did not really pay attention to what fans thought of the movie though.

Some guy,
There is a post about this under female figurines - have a peek.

Kira,
ROBOZON? Never heard of it.

Now for Death Note, Absolutely fantastic anime, haven't read the manga (my Japanese isn't that great). I put on my Creative Zen Vision W and watchas I ride the NYC Trains, I find my self easily lost in the story line.
