Windows 100% is a hardcore Otaku magazine which features Otaku apps (like the ones which help you download open source movies and games), Otaku news, games and other mooha.
This months edition features an interview with some mad dude who goes round Tokyo in stormtrooper armor and loves anime and Gundam. This bloke is asked a hundred Otaku questions where some of those questions are picked up and used in the mag.
Lemme translate some of the Q n A’s

Q:Tell us about some “happenings” at Amazon.
A:Amazon has a system called Marketplace which enables one to list their second hand/used items along with the same product that Amazon carries in their catalog. When Health Care products launched in the US, it was possible to list “used condoms”…

Q:How do folks react when they see you?
A:People who don’t really know Starwars say things like “Its Darth Vader!” and “You Gundam?” Most people whip out their mobile phones to take pictures though.

Q:What advice would you give to people who are about to take up watching anime?
A:Watch Cowboy Bebop or else.

Q:What aspect of Gundam makes it Japanese?
A:Recent Gundam series (Seed/Destiny) always has a wobby boob seen – you wouldn’t see that in any other countries anime.

Q:Tell us how you came to like Gundam.
A:Lived in Japan for 5 years and took no interest in Gundam whatsoever. I was in Tokyu Hands one day and saw GP01 Fix Figuration – thought to myself “Coool!” and made the purchase.
Then proceeded to find out which Gundam anime GP01 was from and was mighty impressed with Gundam 0083.

And here are a few questions from the CD that comes with the mag.

Q:What is your favorite proverb, maxim, or a phrase?
A:"Your future is what you make it - so make it a good one.

Q:What do you hate?
A:Cigarette smoke and racism.

Q:Tell us of a recent event that made you happy.
A:dannychoo.com recently reached an average of 10,000 unique visitors per day.

Q:If you was going to be stuck on a desert island, what one item would you take with you?
A:Doraemon - because I can pull anything out from his magic pocket.

Q:What do you do on your days off from work?
A:Maintain our affiliate sites, research internet technologies and news.

Q:The world is going to go boom next week - what do you do with the remaining time?
A:Drop everything and spend it with my wife.

Q:Fave games?
A:Devil May Cry series, Metal Gear series, Advanced wars, Shooting games.

Q:Whats your fave Mobile Suit?
A:Wing Gundam.

Q:If you could be any anime character, who would you be?
A:Anybody who rides a Mobile Suit - Probably Amuro Rei.

Q:Your fave film?
A:Trading Places with Eddie Murphy and Dan Ackroyd. This film really helped me think about what I was doing with my life and what I should be doing.

Q:Where did you learn Japanese?
A: When I was 16(?) back in the UK, I got myself an imported Sega Mega Drive console. I wanted more info on import games so I went to the Japan Center bookshop in Piccadilly to get some mags - I couldn't read and decided that I wanted to so I started to self learn Japanese.
One day when I was in the bookshop, I came across Young Jump mag and saw a VERY cute girl on the cover - it was an idol called Hikaru Nishida. I wanted to know more about her so I increased my learning speed! Mastered basic Japanese grammar in two weeks and managed to remember about 50 kanji per day. Wanted to learn kanji quicker so I dropped learning the stroke sequence.

Got my Japanese language proficiency test level 4 and then level 2 the year after. Then decided to go to university to learn Japanese - took Korean at the same time.

While I was going to university, I worked part time at a Japanese restaurant every night from 6 to 10 pm. The money saved was used to travel to Japan every year to absorb the culture - ended up spending most of that money in the first day at Akihabara.

All 100 questions can be found on the CD rom that comes with the mag ;-)

You're quickly becoming famous in Japan Danny! I got into Gundam years ago...I think about 6 or 7 years ago. When a TV station started playing Gundam Wing. From then on its just a blur! ^_^

Yeah, I agree with Dave.

I also got into Gundam 5-6 years ago with Gundam Wing on TV aswell, funnily enough. Sadly due to where I live and how much money I have; I've yet to get myself a Gundam model :(

That actually gave me a good spur to continue studying Japanese. Hey, any more good tips for switching to Macs?
(ID #36650) Posted on 2007/01/02 01:23
Yea, Wing brought me into the series as well. As for switching to Macs, the new Boot Camp will make that transition a piece of cake. While its not an "out of box" software, its only an hour or two of setup outside of watching the little line move while windows installs on the extra partition.

MacWorld ran some benchmarks using the new Intel macs against some similiar PCs, and the Intel Macs did as well, if not better than the PCs in their benchmark tests. I am still in the G4 era myself, so installing XP is a no no, however when the time comes to upgrade its good to know I won't have to replace my PC as well just to be able to buy the latest PC games and still enjoy the Apple Design.

Check out the Benchmarks from MacWorld - http://www.macworld.com/2006/04/firstlooks/xpbenchmarks/index.php

Wow~ Getting your name published in a Magazine is a great feat. Congratulations Danny for giving many of your readers (myself included) insights within the fast paced world in Japan when it comes to Gunpla, Figures, games or when you (will) take over the Tokyo tower.

Cheers!

Boy that person they were interviewing sounded like a total loser. Jeez, he should lock himself up in his room and just watch all his anime twice! Lol j/k with ya Danny. That's awesome that you're becoming famous in the Otaku realm.

And if people kept asking me 100 questions I'd start making false answers just so it can go by faster.

Maybe some day I'll visit Japan and maybe if I see you walking around in your stormtrooper suit I'll run up to you and go mental cause I met my hero.

Congratulations for getting yourself on a mag. At least now you can put 'was featured on WIndows 100%' on your tombstone.

it says "overseas otaku" in the interview, ok...quite certain that u don't have a japaneses passport, but i find it Japan is so insistent on differentiating "gaijin" or "overseas so and so" from locals, which troubles me at times...

I really hope they'll announce a new PG gundam there or something because if that PG extra finish EVA 01 is this year's only PG... I'll be quite upset. If it is this year's PG, then next year's PG better be something HUGE! cuz skipping 2 years with just a color variation PG's is not excusable.
