Just got back from a sunny afternoon in Akihabara and noticed more nice girls than usual. So what does one do when there are nice girls in Akiba? Do what everybody else does and take a load of photos ^^;
This is the sweet Rui Kiriyama who was out n about promoting Fist which seems like some sort of online mag.
A load of people crowd around Rui-chan. Somebody got a video of her a few weeks ago at Akiba below.
Took this at about 2PM and still saw a huge crowd around her at 4PM.

You are in Akiba and only have an hour before you need to leave for the airport. You can take pics of the Akiba girls or look for something to buy - what do you do?
The word to describe the side of a face is YokoGao [横顔].
Yoko [横] is "side."
Kao [顔] is "face."
The "K" in "Kao" is softened to a "G" and thus YokoGao and not YokoKao.

In this case you can say...
"Rui-chan wa kawaii YokoGao shiteimasu ne" [るいちゃんはかわいいな横顔していますね] meaning "Rui has a cute YokoGao."
More cute girlies at the entrance of Radio Kaikan handing out fliers.
ZOMG! A huge crowd around three school girls.
The muchi muchi girl on the left is cute (whats muchi muchi?)
A bunch of Otaku aim their piece.
Otaku aiming their piece in broad daylight.
More school girls on the march.
Double ZOMG! Billions (ok hundreds) swarming around Hatsune Miku!
A great way to do instant free promotion.
Most are equipped with a digital SLR.
Many live bands play in Akiba too. Not sure what the policy is but the police seem to shoo the performers or cosplayers away depending on their mood.
Sometimes they shoo everybody, sometimes they leave the performers be.
I notice more n more cosplayers in Akiba. Was going to go in armor today but its in maintenance mode right now.
More school girls.
The gorgeous kaho spotted at Yodobashi camera.
More from Akiba during the week.

To answer the question of what I would do in the last hour, I would probably go shopping. Mostly because I don't have a good camera to take pictures with. (Walks into a store and buys a camera then proceeds to take pictures).

Also something you would never see around the US. Normally. At least around where I live. State Street in Madison could probably be considered a decent cultural locale as it's on the UW campus. but you're bound to find more Panhandlers than cosplayers.

something I never understood - are males in Japan that lustful over girls? These events never occur in Southern CA (well, except for concentrated Asian areas in LA). All the Otaku guys are covered in thick warm jackets looking at girls with thin top-stuff and mini-skirts... no gentleman. ^o^

I would do shopping, unless there would be some Hiroshi Tamaki about. *heart eyes*

That Fist online mag seems to be something for Otakus too, considering the first few pages. And some of their sites talk to me uhh kowaii ne. +_+ It even said farwell... *runs off*

Believe it not, I been to japan 5 times (4 vacations n 1 working/photoshoot trip) but hv yet to go to akihabara. Thing is wife n 1 usually stay in Shinjuku n after one day shopping in Shinjuku or Uneo I already have a suitcase filled with figures, mags etc. hah!

My last trip late last year was all in Osaka and I did buy lots of stuff at Den Den town. Kinda like akihabara I suppose, but it was a week day so it was rather quiet and no girls.

Q: While I see hordes of people snappin pics OF idols and cosplayers. I seldom see people snap pics WITH them (except trooper). Is that frowned upon esp with females?

I'd go shopping. That's what I did when I went. Didn't take any pics at all. Though it was late in the day.

Spending your day at akihabara - you're doing it wrong.

I guess i will never understand the true motivation of resident otaku to just photograph whatever schoolgirl/idol/cosplayer runs around in akihabara. Well, to every it's own.

maybe my comment came out too negative. don't get me wrong ;) what i meant was that i think that one who doesn't live in jp (i.e. me) cannot grasp why you would take your time photographing girls on the streets, when you have a whole city to explore. then again when interested in idols and doing this for a living, it's an good enough explanation :)

Taking photos of cute girls was really cool and made Akihabara even more enjoyable while I was there.

I also saw a guy making a manga-like drawing of one of the girls, but I think a camera is a lot easier.

I wish we had a place like Akiba here in So.Cal. Actually the only place is Little Tokyo in LA, but it's pretty dead since the Japanese depression. The only way to see girls like that are at anime conventions...ahem, or at a local shopping mall. But no pictures taking there.
