Uchimizu

Uchimizu refers to the action of sprinkling water on the streets in the summer and has been a tradition in Japan for many many moons. The water keeps the dust low and cools off the immediate area. You can read up more on this tradition somewhere here.

The Uchimizukko Daishugo event has made this tradition more interesting by getting legions of maids to do the watering. Video included after the jump.

The pink maid in this pic wearing glasses was my fave out of the lot.
BTW, just added this image to the Wallpaper pool.
12.30 infront of Akiba station. Organizers are prepping for the event.
Holy water used to cool off the streets.
Maids getting ready for action.
More maids.
Was interviewed by a few TV crews but forgot which channels ^^;
These are called Oke which are filed with water.
There is a bridge above the event space but is glassed off to prevent people jumping I guess.
More maids get ready for the event.
And Some more.
All these maids are from different cafes. Never been to a maid cafe before so couldn't tell you who's who. Below is a list of some of the cafes who participated in the event (in Japanese).
You can see the event area from the bridge but photos from here are crap.
Gah, its the pnk maid (in the middle). I didnt notice how nice she was until I looked at the photos. I could hardly see through the helmet (I only see green ^^;)
Brownie points to whoever can name all the maid costume/cafes.
This event has to be the biggest maid only event. The girls are waiting on the bridge to head down an escalator.
And at the bottom of the escalator awaits full of salivating men pointing their...camera.
The maids reach the bottom of the escalator and pose for the lads.
I like the one in beige. Reminds me of a figure.
This is Rio Hatsune who was this years image girl for the event.
Traditional style maids.
Macho maids?
Yum.
Yum Yum. I like the two to the left of this pic.
All the girls have assembled at the event ground and grab an Oke full of water.
The water throwing/sprinking takes place a few time throughout the event. Can anybody tell me which cafe that pink maid works at?!
T'was very windy and the girls had a tough time keeping their skirts down. There were many gusts of wind where upon the girls would squeek "kyaaa!".
The lads around me all went "ahhhhh, kawaiii!!"
Folks from the audience who wanted to participate could do so too. But its boring watching them throw water...
Which is why I kept my eye on this lot.
Was packed so didnt get to move around and only got pics form this spot.
Pink maid with glasses!
I see many lousy contact lens ads on TV which make people feel stupid for wearing glasses.
I personally think girls in glasses look great.
A shot of the lads.
Standing behind the maids is a bad thing. You cant see whats going on and you cant even take pictures of their backs because some woman comes and screams at you.
Helping promote some maid cafe.
People who attended the event may have noticed that the organizers seemed to have set up equipment to measure something. What they were doing is measuring the temperature, wind and height of water being thrown.
After water has been thrown and if there was a breeze (which there was), then the temperature should temporarily cool down.

I think the heat being generated by the excited men alone prevented any type of temperature cooling.
Image girl Rio.
Forgot to put this in earlier.

Japan gets some of the most original events ever. That looks like a lot of Ota friendly fun, I'm loving the variety of maids! It's brilliant. Wish I could have been their but I will be in Japan in a mere 13 days so I have no right to complain.

You'd never get events like this in England, because you'd probably get some sod or a gang who comes along to ruin things.

I like how organized the event seems, it looks like nothing went wrong at all. Its the perfect mix of sun, water, maids and Otaku. Maid Fetish for the win!

Very nice pics Danny, I would love to have been there when the wind picked up ;p. I agree with you that people are not there to see a bunch of guys throw water and would rather just see the girls do it lol. Interesting thing you got for maids with glasses, my brother has the same fetish ;p, he tries to find all the figures he can with those characteristics.

That's a cool tradition you show to us there.
Another nice coverage.

Nah, I don't have a fetish for maids or catgirls, furries or any girls in uniforms (police, army). I prefer angels, mermaids and nurses (and also girls in armor, RPG style) ^^;

"you are showing us". Gah. another typo from my part.

Those stuff called oke, are they used in onsen?

Haha, Danny promoting a maid cafe, reminds me of Mikuru Asahina and Nagato Yuki during the first episode of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu.

And last but not least thought on my mind, I don't have a fetish for girls with glasses. I wear a pair all the time myself. Good for looks but boring when you have to rely on them all the time). :P

But it is a interesting activity.
Altough Japanese famous with their technology, they are still doing some ritual like this.

arggh! My nose! This is the single largest gathering of maids I've ever seen. And not one of them is..unattractive as for as i know...How did the men cope...how did you cope danny?!
Something like this needs to be done in the UK. But knowing how annoying people over here can be, it would probably be ruined by yobs.
Would have loved to see such a ritual up close..if you know what i mean...

Holy cow, thats the biggest swarm of maids ive ever seen! Hope you didnt get any painful armour mokkori's about the pink girl!
They coulda done with chucking some water on you - i bet you were boiling in that armour... Lucky the plastic didnt melt on your head!
Still, great weather for it, having an uchimizu when its raining would have been stoopid.

How come you got to hang out with the maids 'backstage' before the event anyway?

I bet those otaku were hoping for a strong gust of wind when they were coming down the stairs...

As for never going to a maid cafe? Shame on you! I highly reccomend the '@home cafe' to the left of that building with the SHARP sign. VERY busy, and even has a maiko cafe. Its on 3 floors o.O
I think they wear pink maid costumes too, but not like that one you like.
