Ooh...  You don't want to know what I think of Evangelion.  Although, I'm always will to reevaluate my decision.  My apologies to everyone who likes this show.  We don't all like the same things...  Hmm, why am I getting all this hate mail. ^^;

I believe that once, when reading Megumi Hayashibara's article in Newtype she stated she found the series upsetting. Then again, only she could have voiced Rei. Hayashibara is a one of a kind person. She's a Tokyo woman with a Kansai woman's attitude. ^^; I think it has a lot to do with why she became and remains a respected individual in entertainment.

Yes, she is at the top of "Seiyuu I would like to meet" list.

Evangelion was what got me hoooked to anime...
before that i was of the impression that anime was all about magical girls and guys sprouting blonde hair and shooting great big fireballs...not that it has changed much since then.
and, the characters were all very intriguing..even if their eventual fates left much to be desired in the end.

evangelion is definitely one of my favourite anime! you've got to watch it a few times to understand it more coz it can be kinda 'psychotic' at times....hehe. can't wait till the movies come out!

Evangelion is a classic, and still one of the best psychological animes out there. These photos look so sexy ^.

I cant believe you havent seen Eva! Its the series that re-booted my intrest in anime after the initial films (akira, fist of the north star etc) came out.
It starts off as a silly robo ruck type anime, but then gets messed up and pscho-religious on us, with great results. Well worth a gander.
I am amazed at how popular and how much merchandise is STILL being made for it though...

Eva was okay, wasnt amazing for me. But I just cant believe how much the japanese like it. When I was over there, its everywhere, in stores, rereleasing dvds, pachinko parlors. I'm sure youve seen it all too Dany, but iono I think they might like it a bit too much.

Evangelion, probably one of the best anime series ever made. There are some people I know who don't like it, but they tend to have a high skull to brain ratio.

There are also people who got into anime in 2002-2006, who have formed the mistaken belief that the purpose of anime is cuteness. Recently I recommended Akira to a girl i know, and she HATED it. She was too used to watching shitty loli characters do stupid things. It made her tiny brain go pop.

AndyH, yes, LOL!, I am also suprised how much merchandise it has spawned. Especially as watching it is such a traumatic experience, instilling in the viewer feelings of absolute despair. I know I'll buy a Eva keychain!

I don't think Eva is perfect, a lot of it is quite half-baked and you have to watch it a bit tounge-in-cheek, but I don't like people dismissing it for the wrong reasons. And its certainly leagues ahead of most current series.

I might not find evangelion as good as people claim it to be, but its still a cool anime >>. EVA-01's berserk awakening is one of most WTF and coolest anime moments i have ever. The theme for EVA-01 is epic too :)

Well, EVA was one of my first anime's and I love it.

At first I was too young to understand most of it, but I watched again recently and if you watch it carefully it really shows a lot of mature situations, not just gratuitous violence like I read in some forums. The manga is better though.

And Danny, DO NOT WATCH THE MOVIE FIRST!!!

Go for the anime first. For real.

really looking forward to Rebuild of Evangelion. The poster looks so nostalgic somehow, love the hydrowires in the hills, would love to hang it on my wall if I could.

Since first part will be an alternate retelling of the story, non-fans can pick up on the series. I wonder what the "new ending" will be.

I remember evangelion being decent, It had is moments of daft pretention and the main character was an absolute pussy who moaned through it all. But it was still a decent series. Maybe because it was dark?

Let's keep our fingers crossed that they won't kill the movies...

Everyone knows that Kanno is a racist who believes in, err, "Jap Darwinism," am I correct? I'm fine with that, but I hope his movies won't become "over the top" with the racist and sexist factors. We all want fluid, solid, and aesthetically-pleasing animation/design, and let us hope that they can achieve that once again with modern technology.

Oh, and Danny: can you please (someday) get rid of the entering number process once we sign in? It's redundant - chotto, ne? ^_^

You should try watching it Danny, it's a great anime. If nothing else you could read Angelic Days instead which has practically no gore but still follows a slightly similar storyline compared to the original.

I just finished the series for the first time, on maybe Thursday? I'm in the process of watching the redone 21, 24, 25 and 26 or whatever and then I have Death and the old movie to watch and I want to see the new movie, obviously. I have to say that I liked the series a lot, but it kind of petered out at the end. For as "epic" as everyone made it seem, and for as much as I'd watched before finally "conquering the mountain" this time and watching all 26 eps, the whole shift from the angels to all of the existentialism and philosophical/metaphysical themes about halfway through the series kinda threw me. The whole thing is very bipolar (apparently Hideaki Anno, the director of the anime series suffered from clinical depression before he created it and you can tell in a big way if you've ever taken any psych classes, just by the themes and dialogue), and not only that, the whole thing felt rushed. It jumps around too much early on and then neglects to fill in gaps, which I guess was the reason for the redos of 4 or 5 eps. I still didn't feel there was enough coverage of backstory. I don't necessarily want laborious undertakings like the 3 and 4 episode mini-arcs of One Piece or Bleach or any Shonen Jump series do, but I think that they could've covered some of the characters' pasts more in-depth, and told more of the tale of the years leading up to 2015 in-depth as well. Here's hoping that Death and the movie will make a fool of me for writing this, but somehow I don't know if it will. Still quite a great series though. I'm watching it in 2008 and I feel like it's still new. Additionally, I can't believe that this was airing as I was in Japan for the first time in 1996, for some reason I can't wrap my head around the concept.

Evangelion is a monument, non only for the animation or the plot, but it's also because we've got a great anime with everything to think about everything. It's not only a bad trip from Kanno, no at all, it's a travel to know how frustrated we are about all.

And the 2 last episodes are so great ! a really fist for the otaku we are, but, when I saw Evangelion for the first time I understand something, I don't have to go away, I have just to feel everything and tel everything I've got in my mind because that mean that I'm alive !

Evangelion is an evolution and a simple proposition to try and discovered more about us.

But I'm a little afraid about the film... but I'm sur that we have a lot to discover about.
