Dude... watermelon....square? hmmmmmm.........yum

I saw that on Tv. cool. Aren't those watermelons grown in glass boxes or something like that because they would just take the shape of what they were grown in.

Seen it on TV but have never seen the actual, seems that the Japanese like to "create" "weird" fruits, IIRC theres (apple?) that mimicks the smell of a different fruit. Square Watermelon atleast makes sense cos of easy packaging. But neither would I want to touch these nor would I want to eat raw veal. LOL

this is the result when thinking outside the box to design a new watermelon XD this is some bizzare fruit indeed

Square watermelon, I saw that on the simpsons years ago. I thought it was just a joke. That is freakin awsome. I want some.

Is it taste god or the same as the common one? Do any one have experience on this type of fruit?

From wat i know ... each of these square watermelons cost quite a bomb ... around 10000 yen I cannot imagine myself eating such an expensive fruit

It's just a regular watermelon that was grown in a glass box. It was designed for easy packaging and they cost an arm and a leg along with your whole entire gundam collection... kidding, it will only cost a leg. :P I saw one of those on TV and thought it was interesting. It's basically just a square watermelon, nothing more, nothing less but still interesting.

Technology at it's finest...I would buy one, brag about it, then eat it or something...it probably makes one heck of a fruit salad.

Are these the melons that cost more than $70.00 for a single melon? 0_o

Buy an' eat man; no matter the cost! Square Watermelons are a must-have I f I ever saw one!

Dude, I would totally get one! That looks friggin rad!

Haha. These reminds me of the Square sweets that look round in 'Charlie and The Chocolate Factory'. It's pretty cool though as it's easier to package these sqaure watermelons instead of the usual ones.

yeah we all know its easier to pack but i'm sure they're not more expensive (and still sellable at such ridiculous price) because of that - it's just novelty. cool but useless :)

I've seen that watermelon. It's not really special. People put it in square container. when the watermelon grows up, it have a square body, but still watermwlon.

dont like watermelons, but i love honeydew melons!

Nice. Even those wee slices there are what ... 500 yen, though ? You could get a couple of whole melons for that price here ! Food is so expensive over there ~

There are happening strange things on our planet, but I would try one.

Homer bought one on the Simpsons, then it popped back to its original shape and he dropped it, LOL.

People want square everything these days....but they don't want square-enix :P

Cool, tht reminds me of the water melon i had when i was in LA visiting my relative... thou it isnt square but the inside bits r yellow coloured like lemon instead of bright red... kinda funny comes to think of it.

Wow!!! they really exist... i wonder how it would taste???... and if it will return to its normal shape like the one Homer buy....jajaja

Ho my...so they DO exists...so useless XD

They decided to make the watermelons square so they are easily stacked and transported on trucks. When you have round objects with each other, you can fit less because of gaps and such. =) There is your trivia for today.

oh yes, i went to my local supermarket last nite and saw the same lookin' square watermelon...it was about 50 bucks USD...hot diggedy damn that's expensive for a watermelon. I've read some articles that these specimen had to be cultivated in special containers...These watermelons are especially ideal for gifts in asia, as expensive gifts mean a display of family honour and wealth.

wow yummy nice taste! (>_

There is no way that is natural...unless it was exposed to some kind of freakish nuclear radiation...in which case I wouldn't eat it anyway.

i heard a little that it import to thailand But Highest price..

:O Square melon! OMG HAX! Lol...i love melons, i must purchase one of these confusing shaped fruits. I wonder if there are triangle Water melons -.O

Did it grow in that shape? LOL that's some funny stuff!

i just got one and i dont want to eat it.................... IT LOOKS SO GOOD!!!! *DROOL*

Yeah ive heard of these mysterios polygons, but how woud they come to be? Grown in a cubicle wooden box of sorts possibly, in any case it looks delectable ^^

heard that these "newtype fruits" taste alot sweeter than the normal oval watermelons..have not tasted one though..will like to someday..

I've heard that Japanese farmers are trying to cultivate pyramid-shaped watermelons. Japan sure rocks...
I know this one well~ It is produce in Taiwan, and it is grow within a square glass Why it is so expansive? 1: From Taiwan to Japan, the tax 2: this idea has copyright, and each purchase has a high value added. 3: when it was 1st announced, the glass was not designed to be able to reuse. Once the fruit has grow up to the size that cannot take out from the glass, and it is always, the glass has to be brake. The cost of the glass. 4: The farmer only plant an amount, so there are only a few been produced. 5: the farmer has signed contract with certain wholesaler only, since it is been monopolized of cause the price goes up!
